Additional info & updates

11/08/09 - Just submitted ED-NYU and Michigan. Planning to have all applications finalized in the next few days.

11/22/09 - Waitlisted at Duke via email. Wasn't expecting to have a decision on a Sunday, but cool. Not exactly roaring out of the gates with this cycle, am I?

12/04/09 - As of this morning, I am complete everywhere I applied. As for the schools I haven't applied to: most of the delays were intended to be short (i.e. I needed an extra day or two to finish my Penn essay; Cornell was still processing my CRS waiver). But since I'm so close to hearing back from NYU, I'm just going to hold off on those for if I need them.

12/17/09 - Rejected ED at NYU via mail. This kind of throws a wrench in the whole thing, doesn't it? Time to get serious about all the other schools.

12/18/09 - Received a "postpone" email from Georgetown. I'm going to be reviewed again and notified by 2/26/10. Hm, I thought my numbers would get me in comfortably... but maybe they still will.

2/10/10 - Waitlisted at Chicago. Frankly, I'm pleasantly surprised in light of my NYU rejection, which has me terrified for the rest of my cycle. I think I might stand a chance with a good LOCI, and this is possibly my new top choice.

2/11/10 - Waitlisted at Virginia. Ironically, when this cycle began I predicted WL at both Chicago and UVA. Now that's two decisions below expectations (Duke, NYU) and two decisions at expectations. What's next? CLS admit?? Though I'd definitely settle for Michigan or Northwestern at this point.

2/15/10 - Woo hoo, first offer of admission! Pepperdine via mail, letter dated 2/9/10. Dean's Scholarship, $25,000 per year (conditional).

2/22/10 - Notified via email, something called the "Preferred Waiting List" at Georgetown. I guess that's better than the normal waiting list. Still, I'm getting sick of all these waiting lists. Either Northwestern or Michigan should get me while I'm vulnerable. At this point I'd literally jump to pay sticker at the first T14 that admits me.

2/22/10 - In at USC via snail mail. Pretty significant in that it's my first acceptance within the top 20. Hopefully this is the start of some more positive news.

2/25/10 - IN AT NORTHWESTERN VIA EMAIL. Cracked the t10 baby! Ever since being devastated by NYU, NU has been a place I could absolutely see myself at. I'm a year out of UG, but my w/e is somewhat dubious. I am thrilled by this news. More information to follow.

2/26/10 - WL at Michigan via email, one day after submitting a late-addition Why essay. Now it's hard for me to know whether the new essay was really considered. Hmm. I'm going to give this some thought and get a LOCI together in the next couple weeks.

3/1/10 - WL just now at Minnesota via email, which was a nice blow to the ego and served as a reminder that absolutely nothing good can come from remaining in consideration at schools I have no intention of attending (with my NU acceptance in hand). Just withdrew from their WL and Georgetown's WL, as well as withdrawing pending apps from Fordham, Illinois, and Boston.

3/6/10 - Received a "Hold" letter from Columbia via mail. Dated March 3. I will be notified of my decision by April 21.

4/12/10 - Just received my Penn rejection via mail (dated 4/7).

Also, just got back last night from three days at Northwestern's ASW. Had a great time and am more than happy to attend.

4/12/10 - WL at UCLA via email. Wow, that's two pieces of what would be horrible news in the same day if I wasn't so excited about Northwestern (and still cautiously optimistic about Columbia).

4/13/10 - New USNWR rankings leaked per TLS. Duke and Northwestern both improve their score, but UVA improves more, forcing Duke and NU to t-11. In other news, Chicago leapfrogs NYU, Penn ties Boalt, and Columbia gains on Stanford.

4/17/10 - No scholarship from USC. Withdrawing.

4/22/10 - No scholarship from Northwestern. I was still under consideration until today. Man, that would have been nice to get some help. I wonder if they know how limited my options are...

4/23/10 - Reserve letter from Columbia via mail. No big surprise there.

4/27/10 - Just got into Cornell via email!

Small scholarship offer from Cornell. Unfortunately Northwestern was not persuaded to sweeten the pot.

Final Update - I attend Northwestern. I hope this page plays a part in aiding future LS applicants, as so many pages did for me.

What up with the rejection from NYU ED? Your numbers are great. Were you placed back into regular decision, or completely rejected? Our numbers are really similar in real life (I fugdged mine a bit on this site for protection), so I'm crossing my fingers... good luck with the rest of your cycle - you're going to get into lots of great schools!

How are you?
