Extracurricular Information
I'll fill out some of this to be helpful to future applicants, though I'm still leaving several things out.
TFA
8 years WE, mainly teaching in inner-city schools with a lot of awards
Run a soup kitchen
Skills in 5 languages (really only fluent in 2-3)
Have lived abroad in several countries (worked at UN, taught English, volunteered lots of places)
A lot of undergrad awards and activities, though they seem like they were a really long time ago!
Anyway, what I learned is that everyone has great soft factors. It's tempting to think that soft factors make you special, but the truth is that there are a lot of special people out there! Mine are really small in the grand scheme. I am amazed at some of the people I have met. I'm not sure how much soft factors truly matter, but I'm really honored by the great offers I got (including in MPP programs) and am really happy to be going to NU.

Additional Information
I'm hoping for the best and very excited about the whole process. I like all of the schools I'm applying to, and I would like to be in either Illinois or Minnesota. Also, I'm super nervous!
1/15/08-- accepted to UMN! Yay! What an awesome Human Rights Center. Money is total over three years.
1/23/08-- the waiting game is killing me.
1/30/08-- I got in to Depaul. My first Chicago school! The scholarship is contigent on maintaining a 3.3, so it's not that great. Still, any money is good money. Let's hope some other schools come through with money (and not grade dependent).
2/4/08-- Call from Loyola offering admission! The dean was really nice. She said the letters should arrive soon (though with the local mail, soon is relative). I could be nearing the end of my good news, but it's been nice thus far.
2/6/08-- Official letter from Loyola. They offered a conditional renewable scholarship and a community service scholarship. Yay!
2/8/08-- Officially accepted at Kent.
2/24/08-- The long wait with no news is leading me to believe this will not be good news. Sigh.
2/28/08-- I knew my shot at Northwestern was minimal, but I was still really hoping. I feel so disappointed. I didn't want to have a first choice, but...
3/22/08-- I'm a bit surprised at the hold from UofC. I thought I would be rejected. I am very honored by it.
So the summer has been very exciting. I got a lot of great offers and scholarships. I love Chicago-Kent and think the faculty there is amazing. I did get in to Northwestern very last minute (8/19), and it has been my first choice all along. It's really hard to turn that down, and so I'm saying yes!

for the comment. I'm more so in their range rather than above their average so I was expecting the deferral. I just hope they ultimately take me! Best of luck to you, I'm sure you will have some great options with your numbers.
NW Monday, January 7th, 2008 at 9:16 pm
Yes, I have 1 yr WE. I suspect the reason I was deferred was that I didn't express a huge interest in NW during my interview.
I think they are looking for students who really, really want to go there, and it just wasnt one of my top 3 choices let alone my top choice.
I think you should have a good chance of getting in if you make it clear you would *love* to go to NW (provided you have some WE). Seriously, remind them at every chance (interview, LOCI, etc.)

good luck on NU!! Sunday, January 13th, 2008 at 4:26 pm
I have similar #'s to yours and received my acceptance recently... hang in there, from everything i've heard so far from current/former students, NU is worth waiting for! Good luck with the rest of your schools - I am sure you'll have some good choices.
NU Monday, January 14th, 2008 at 12:19 pm
Haha, I keep telling myself "Maybe this week!"
When did you apply? With those numbers and WE, you might be hearing sooner than I do. :o)

Thanks for your comment. My mother went to Harvard and my father went to Yale, so yeah, I'd say I have some good soft factors. I'm not too worried.
Honestly Monday, January 21st, 2008 at 3:47 pm
Honestly I don't actually believe I have a safety school. It is kind of crazy but I figure worst case scenario I work for a while then reapply
thanks Wednesday, January 23rd, 2008 at 7:45 pm
good luck to yourself as well! hopefully the WE will pay off at NU?
Penn Wednesday, January 23rd, 2008 at 8:38 pm

Good Luck Friday, January 25th, 2008 at 9:44 am
Hey, congrats on Twin CIties. Good luck with the rest of the cycle!
The waiting game Friday, January 25th, 2008 at 9:59 am
Stay strong, you will make it through.
And thanks for the CLS congrats! Certainly takes the sting out of waiting for NU...but I would definitely consider taking them over CLS, especially with $$! Keeping my fingers crossed, but I'm in a happy place now :o)

Chicago Thursday, January 31st, 2008 at 2:37 pm
UMich is my first choice, with NU and WUSTL after that. I've already had a very good cycle, so anything else at this point is just gravy. Good luck to you!

When did you apply? Monday, February 4th, 2008 at 7:27 pm
When did you submit your apps?
Thanks! Thursday, February 7th, 2008 at 11:52 am
I appreciate your comment. I figured I'd get some rejections. UCLA, Boalt, and NW were expected. UCLA and Boalt are big on GPA, and NW is with work experience. Everywhere else I'm not quite sure what went wrong. Hit and miss I guess. I hope you get into U Chicago!
Thanks Thursday, February 7th, 2008 at 1:44 pm
Thanks for the note, and congrats to you too on your admits and awards. As for how I'm leaning, I'm holding off until I hear from all the schools I applied to before I start to lean too far.
The Big Schoolz Monday, February 18th, 2008 at 2:05 pm
Why is it that thie big schools take the longest to decide! It's driving me nutz!
northwestern Friday, March 14th, 2008 at 11:22 pm
how did they inform you of decision?
I am expecting a rejection here soon enough

Northwestern Acceptance! Sick! :) Tuesday, August 19th, 2008 at 9:16 pm
Heya number-twin, congrats on NU! That's pretty impressive, ... from the other offers it seemed like their main criterion was 170+ LSAT regardless of GPA. It was a sad day indeed when I received my rejection. Anyway, out of curiosity, what do you think opened the door for you? Letters of interest and the like?
Well, again, congratulations, that's awesome. And a very wise decision to attend NU over Kent, imo. Best of luck to you! :)
