ADDITIONAL INFO & UPDATES

Didn't know I was applying till Nov 2005.

UVa: phone call 2/2, acceptance letter a few days later. Letter 3/16, Dean's Scholar, $66k over 3 years.
Harvard: phone call 2/14, acceptance letter 2/17.
Duke: acceptance letter for JD/LLM program 2/18. Email 3/7, Dean's Scholar, about $64k over 3 years.
UCLA: email 3/3, letter a few days later.
Michigan: acceptance letter 3/24, really excited.

Visited Harvard 3/10 - 3/12. Some great people, some other not so great people. Nice campus. Explored Cambridge a little on my own, seems like a nice place. Reality of attending law school starting to set in.
Visited UVA and Duke 3/24 - 3/25. Turned off by UVA. Way too fratty. Only caught 3 hours of Duke but really impressed by the current students I heard and talked to.
Visited Michigan 3/30-4/1. Really enjoyed my visit.
Withdrew from Duke and UCLA 3/28.
Withdrew from UVA and Michigan 4/21.
Waitlisted at Stanford 4/21, withdrew same day.
Bizarre email from Georgetown 4/28 saying I was not complete till after 3/20 and thus could not be considered until after May 1, wanting to know if I was interested in hearing in the next week. I withdrew in my response.
Sent Harvard deposit 4/12.

I can name all 535 members of Congress, all 50 governors, and tell you which party is in control of all 99 state legislatures. If you tell me your state and the general area where you live, I can guess your congressman in three tries or less. (This has been tested.)

u took the words right outta my mouth, I kno Ill feel much better when I get the physical representation of the Harvard acceptance :) I havent gotten the package yet (I hear they send a shirt too), and bein all the way in CA (and havin the slowest campus post office on earth) i dont really expect to get it til next week. Youll prolly get it earlier tho, so let me know what it looks like :) ...and i kno Harvard was the only valentine i needed...dont worry, youll be surrounded by beautiful future lawyers soon enuf ;)

  • hmm
  • Thursday, February 16 2006 at 08:02 AM

hmm...well...i guess gettin the call on the same day doesnt necessarily mean we were accepted on the same day...maybe they sent his stuff out earlier? i don't know. but i DO know that I'm in harvard, i don't care if i never get a letter, or if Mr. Stock calls and says he made a mistake, they better make room for me :) but seriously i'd say if you/we don't have it by mid/late next week, theres reason for concern...its only been 2 days

  • great moniker...
  • Friday, February 17 2006 at 02:46 AM

but can you tell me who the 2008 nominees for the Dems and Reps will be?

- David
  • I was hoping
  • Friday, February 17 2006 at 03:13 AM

someone would comment. Unfortunately for the Dems (and for me) it looks like it will be HRC. I might help Warner if he lasts through IA and NH. On the Republican side, if I had to guess...wow. It's so hard 2 years out, but it'll probably come down to a Rudy Giuliani versus a George Allen. And if it's Hillary against either of those guys, I may exercise my patriotic right to vote for Mickey Mouse.

  • ooooh!
  • Friday, February 17 2006 at 07:51 AM

its a box? oooh, how exciting. I'll run to the post office soon, but I prolly won't get mine til next week since you are considerably closer. Guess I'll just listen to Toby's voicemail a few more times to hold me over til then :)

Cool..I thought I was the only one who could name all 535 Members of Congress, 50 governors, state legislature control etc..I used to be able to recite their winning margins in the last 3 elections but somehow my brain got fried!! Well done on your schools

"Let the Eagle Soar!" Any idea where you're going? Or waiting for the last of them to trickle in. Hillary won't be the candidate-- unless Rove successfully continues his black magic, You'll see. Didn't the little lady whose drapery you were get liberated finally?

indeed she did, quietly and with as little insult to ashcroft's ridiculous rabid fundiness as possible. quite a legacy for someone who only got to be attorney general cause he lost his senate race to a dead guy. yeah, i'm going to wait for the last four. i am not even really leaning toward anywhere yet.

I can name all of the senators, but the house is truly impressive. City of Tampa, and don't look it up. I'm waiting!!

- partyguy708
  • Not Bill
  • Monday, February 27 2006 at 11:15 AM

sorry, that's not fair either, you should have listed all three in descending order, just kidding, but it's not Bill Young.

"I can name all 535 members of Congress, all 50 governors, and tell you which party is in control of all 99 state legislatures. If you tell me your state and the general area where you live, I can guess your congressman in three tries or less. (This has been tested.)" how much time did this take? i think quirky stuff like this is cool. i bet i could not recite all the us states and you have commited to memory all the governors. awesome. i once memorized the stats for the national league east when i was a kid. the weird thing is it took no time at all. i guess if your interested in something, retention is just natural. ok, pa, philly

  • You looked it up?
  • Monday, February 27 2006 at 05:26 PM

that would be cheating, right? Yes it is Jim Davis. Bilirakis is close (Clearwater) and so is Putnam (Lakeland). The city of Tampa should have told you that it was not those two. How many repugnican representatives are there for our major inner cities? Very few!

are cursed. how dare they move cal to third. is there any doubt that brady anderson was on steroids? i remember how amazing it was for cecil fielder to hit 50+. a few years later, everybody was hitting 50.

- higherlearning
  • I know,
  • Tuesday, February 28 2006 at 09:07 AM

I was kidding you. That is really impressive. I had a brain cramp last night and forget the other senator from North Dakota, (named Byron Dorgan). This was bar talk and somebody called my bluff. After going through about ten states I forgot Conrad.

- partyguy708
  • Governor

Jim Davis is a solid guy, I'm no longer in Tampa so I will not work on his campaign. However, the check is in the mail.

- partyguy708
  • Love your moniker
  • Saturday, March 25 2006 at 12:20 PM

why do people dislike the guy so much? So he's quasi-fundamentalist, but about 35 percent of the country is? Him violating civil liberties is also a bit exagerated- hell JFK started wiring political opponents in the media.

No word on money yet. It seems like my acceptance was kind of an afterthought for them. Nobody else on LSN was accepted the same time I was, and their admitted weekends are both over.

  • Congressman

OK, I'll bite. Central Texas. No fair looking at my profile for the particular city, since you did say "general area" ;)

- tonypetro
  • geez
  • Friday, April 21 2006 at 08:59 AM

Well "central Texas" is pretty broad, it could be anybody from Chet Edwards to Michael McCaul to Mike Conaway to Lamar Smith...I need at least a little more detail.
