"It is the fashion of to-day to sneer at them and to say that with freedom Negro leadership should have begun at the plow and not in the Senate — a foolish and mischievous lie...but unless he have political rights and righteously guarded civic status, he will still remain the poverty-stricken and ignorant plaything of rascals, that he now is. App Money
Thursday, October 20 2005 at 08:00 PM

Maybe you can stagger the apps in terms of priority and money availability. Apply to top choices first with the 4 waivers and then one by one in order of preference as you raise the other money. -MJ

It had better be an acceptance letter or a new LSAT score ;)

Howard
Monday, October 17 2005 at 08:00 PM

I visited Howard's campus a few weeks ago while I was in DC on Business. I was very impressed with the new library, the old one looks like a Jim Crow era cafeteria. The rest of the school could use a once over but it was still decent enough. None of the students that I talked to had any complaints (it was after 5pm so no faculty). What about Penn State?

penn st?
Saturday, September 17 2005 at 08:00 PM

i don't know anything about 'st.' except for joepa. i really want to go west. my dream school is probably chicago because of econ and law. they is also strong for biochemistry. but sadly, i have no shot there. :( warning: here comes a rant. howard library? from what i saw on the their site it is very posh, but still... i just can't get over the tuition. you would think that if their focus was actually on making more aa lawyers, the tuition would not suck up so much of the 18.5. if i were the dean i would drop the tuition by 1/2. at the same time i would expand the curiculum. i would push ip hard. the uspto is only a short metro ride away. and speaking of the curiculum, howard's too narrow focus on civil rights is harmed by the relatively small size of the class. they should do what ever it takes to attract as many qualified minorities to the school as possible. they should attract the best minority faculty. the best non-minority faculty as well. we should ALL dream of going to howard law back to the cost. they must make it as affordable as possible. i mean come on, how long has this cap been at 18.5. why is howard's tuition so close to it? howard is funded by the government right? why not use some of that money on the law school AND its' students? oh, let us not forget, "where are the fee waivers?" hey, did johngalt get one? why the hell not? why do i have a fee waiver from washington and lee and not howard? that's just wrong! and the way howard works it, regardless whether you get in or not, you might still be able to go to a higher ranked school for less. huh? what is up with the scholarships? I have talked to howard lawyers and they don't understand what is going on now. there was a time when a howard law degree was the 'bomb'. it just does not seem that way any more. and that is sad. we are down to people like johngalt applying, but with no real desire to go. is he really going to pass up harvard or yale for howard? what about gulc? i wish him well but you know what this means? all his app does is serve to inflate howard's numbers, not it's legacy. i love my sisters but howard's legacy was in it's men. where is the next thurgood marshall? at yale. where is the next vernon jordan? at harvard. damn, and every time i log onto their sorry web page, all i see is the dean with that grin on his face. i don't think it's funny-not at all. new library? howard needs a new approach. p.s. maybe this is just coming from my not so warm reception from howard at the NY law forum. maybe not.

though i may be critical of HUSL, i still respect the school and would love to attend. i would like to be able to do ip work in the future. i worry that howard will not be able to prepare me for my chosen field. i do realize that they are trying. they do have that intellectual property/social justice thing. but i don't think they offer even 10 classes in ip. there are 4th tier schools that have like 30 classes for students to choose from. how can howard compete with gw or gulc with this curriculum? how can they even compete with american? given the school's dc location and proximity to the uspto, i was expecting more. i guess ip at husl = llm somewhere else. if it comes down to that, so be it.

Stetson
Sunday, October 02 2005 at 08:00 PM

I am not applying to Stetson. I was going to being that Tampa would be a perfect place to go to law school. But from what I have heard about Stetson, not one time have I been told something positive about the experience.

you think i can play up my major? how? what schools do you think i might have a shot at? i welcome any and all suggestions. you honestly think i have a shot at schools higher than case/ american? what about ND? how do i play up my major? i thought that some schools would think it too analytical. i like case though. it has always been one of my top choices. actually it is second only to the university of chicago. one of the reasons i am considering depaul is the transfer option. this has largely been a solo mission, but i welcome crew members. if anyone has any ideas on where i should apply, feel free. if you feel that i am being myopic or perhaps pessimistic in my app choices, please, feel free to comment. however, if you feel that i have no shot at a school, let me know as well. the final decision (right or wrong) will be mine, of course.

i hope to begin sending off my apps right after finals.

Keep hope alive brutha!
Monday, August 08 2005 at 08:00 PM

I feel you on the Howard Rant, I was mad as hell when they actually took my $60!!! I've gotten a fee waiver from EVERYOTHER school, but Howard straight up told me "No, you pay!" Anyhow, I'd love for a chance to go to Howard (or any school) but I understand that if W&L or GMU or even UGA says, "C'mon in darkie" I''M GHOST! Especially for a lower tuition. Glad to see we're applyin' to some of the same schools. Altho I'm kinda nervous about why GMU and W&L sent me a fee waiver, especially with my #s. Oh well, much success to you, I'll keep updatin' my page and checkin' yours.

Good Luck
Saturday, September 17 2005 at 08:00 PM

I wanted to say Good Luck in your apps. I feel exactly what you are going through!!

Good Luck!
Monday, November 14 2005 at 07:00 PM

Well there's no doubt that I'm a fan of Howard since I went to school nearby. It's a great law school and you can't beat DC. Finish your applications! The sooner, the better. I made the mistake of waiting too long last time around. Learn from my mistake.

GMU acceptance?
Monday, August 08 2005 at 08:00 PM

Don't get my hopes up, PLEASE. I would be doing backflips all across my campus if I got accepted there. I'm still routin' for ya, my belief is that no matter what I am going to SOMEBODY'S law school, even if its Pookie Johnson's Night school of Law. Hopefully this scripture will help you: `He hath said unto me, My power is made perfect in weakness. Therefore will I glory in my weaknesses, that the strength of Christ may rest upon me. Wherefore I take pleasure in weaknesses: for when I am weak, then am I strong.' -- 2 Cor. 12:9,10

Sounds Good
Monday, November 14 2005 at 07:00 PM

Sounds like you're on it. No pressure, right? Haha. If you can get them off by the 15th you'll be money. Good luck with your finals!!

Good Luck
Friday, October 28 2005 at 08:00 PM

I am applying to some if the same schools. I think you have a good shot at a lot of the schools on your list.

Re: Law School
Tuesday, September 27 2005 at 08:00 PM

Well, I am definitely going to attend, it's just a question of starting in January at John Marshall or next Fall at Loyola or Kent. I would prefer to defer and start in the fall, I really don't have the money right now. But if I don't get into Kent, I will not have a choice. Good luck to you as well.

Re: Kent
Tuesday, September 27 2005 at 08:00 PM

I agree with you that it would suck to hear from the schools after I have already started at JMLS, but... I'm not thrilled about sending what I'd consider to be a "threatening letter" to other law schools. Heck, they'd probably turn me down on purpose if I sent them a letter like that. Especially since JMLS is a January start and they probably know that very few people even start in January unless they're major desperate. Because usually if you can get in for the Fall class, you do. The only people who usually apply in January are the ones who didn't get into the Fall class, such as myself. So...I guess I don't feel comfortable with sending a letter. If I don't get a decision from Kent by like the third week in December, I'll probably give them a buzz. But they said their decisions run from 2 weeks to 3 months, once sent to the committee, and the earlier you've applied, the sooner you'll get a decision. For all I know, one could already be in the mail to me, but I doubt it. It's not that big of a deal, the schedule at JMLS is very workable. It's like the best one I've seen for a first year law student! No classes before 10 and only one class on Mondays and Fridays! Friday you don't even start until 2! So you can sleep in and still get all the work done that you need to. Therefore, the schedule at JMLS is very attractive. The only thing I'm displeased about is the fact that I didn't receive a scholarship. But that's just life. Not everyone gets one and my LSAT score was very low. So I just have to deal with the cards I've been dealt. E-mail me if you would like to talk further.

Fee Waiver
Sunday, September 25 2005 at 08:00 PM

I do not recall being granted a fee waiver to Marquiette for submitting my application online via LSAC. If I remember correctly, I had to send them a check with the amount due for the application fee. I hope this helps. Good luck with your applications!

Concerning your message to all Law schoo
Sunday, August 21 2005 at 08:00 PM

Thanks for your comment. Today hurt a bit. Also on your message to law schools. If you really want a free ride, you do know that Cooley will most likely give it to you. Though you can obviously get into better schools.

DC question
Sunday, August 21 2005 at 08:00 PM

Yea i never got an actual complete notice from them. They went right to the letter of decline. Thanks for your comments, i am actually concidering adding more schools to this list.

When are you going to apply??
Sunday, August 21 2005 at 08:00 PM

When are you going to start applying?? It is getting late!! Are you going to this cycle?

Fee waivers
Tuesday, December 06 2005 at 07:00 PM

Yea I'm hoping for some more fee waivers from schools too. I dont think brooklyn or cardozo are gonna throw you any fee waivers tho, i definately didnt get anything. I did get some from seton hall, penn state hofstra and valpariso...and hoping for some more too. Good luck maybe ill see you at hofstra haha -Eric

What sux about my scores
Monday, August 08 2005 at 08:00 PM

Schools are going to take their sweet-ass time to give me a decision. I probably won't hear anything until Spring Break. Ginuwine's song "So Anxious" keeps playin' thru my mind everytime I get a "YOur applciation is complete" letter. I shoulda did what I did for Morehouse and apply Early Action, ah well, c'est le vie. You need to jump on the wagon with the rest of the "Wing and a Prayer" committee and apply.

Thanks for the post
Thursday, October 20 2005 at 08:00 PM

I am keeping hope alive although this whole process has been unnerving. I keep adding more schools that I couldn't logically attend but it will all be worth it just to see one acceptance. I am sure your grades will turn out ok but no matter what, at least its over. When do you plan on sending out apps?

good luck
Tuesday, September 06 2005 at 08:00 PM

good luck on your applications---I like your outlook:) also, looks like you're looking at a few schools in chicago...if you're interested you can get a free application to Loyola Chicago if you apply online:) Good luck!

Your In
Thursday, August 11 2005 at 08:00 PM

First of all, you will get in. You UG major is no joke, so the fact that you even have a passing GPA is better than none at all. It has to be worth something. Second, you are a...... I hate to say it but here it goes...... a blk male. Right now you are a hot commodity, who cares if you get in by minority status and not your scores, just get in, then deal with that crap later. I have never enjoyed being a blk female more in my entire life. Trust me this will work towards your advantage. Embrace it and hang on, YOU WILL GET IN. I am so depesrate I am ready to run butt naked down a public street with a polka dot bow tie on to prove my desire. I just want to get in. The LSAT is so not the way to measure one's acuity to enter law school, it is such a unfair and biased test. Last year my friend scored 176, GPA 3.77, I talked to her last week, guess what she said? Chris I am not passing and I do not think that I can continue, it is simply too hard. So what does that tell u? The test means nothing. Atleast not to me. But I will give it my best shot again in Feb. Good Luck, and don't worry you'll get in.

Think of a Krispy Kreme Dognut
Monday, August 08 2005 at 08:00 PM

You like those dognuts right? Hell, who doesn't? You like how tasty and surgary they are, and yer willin' to FIGHT over the last one in the box, even tho ya already had 11 before, because you know how good it is going to taste. But what about that dognut before you bought it? What was it like before it was put in you box? It was simply a lump of dough. NOthing special, nothign delicious, nothing desirable. Nobody was really paying it much attention until it was "Perfected" How as it perfected? It wasn't just left alone in a closet or in a freezer, it had to go through INTENSE heat and pressure in order to make it as irresistible as it is when it's in its FINISHED form. So when you start stressing out about everything you are going thru, just think of the Krispy Kreme dognut and the FIRE AND PRESSURE it had to go thru in order to become what it is, remember that and you'll be (and my stressed self too) will be fine.

Law Firm job
Monday, August 08 2005 at 08:00 PM

I got that because My roommate's G/F is friends with the Owner of the Firm. He said he was looking for an intern b/c he had just opened his office. She got me in contact with him and I've been here for about 1.5 years. It's been an EXPERIENCE (Good and Bad) but I believe it had given me insight into what its like to work with Lawyers. . . . .these guys are psychos once you get past the fancy degrees and cuff-links. Yet I'm still excited about being one tho.

Re: JM
Tuesday, September 27 2005 at 08:00 PM

Well...I went and saw Dean Powers on Tuesday. I switched to the part-time day program. Full time is just not affordable to me, because I just got a condo and I can't not work more than 20 hours a week to afford it. So...one less class won't kill me. Contracts would have been an OK class, but I'll just take it during the summer instead. I think I'm going to attempt to take 2 law classes in the summer, Contracts and Criminal Law or Constitutional Law, whichever one they offer. Or for all I know, Contracts won't be offered and those other two will and I'll take those other two. Who knows. But I have to work full-time to afford my living situation. I don't like having roommates, so that's what I got myself into. But that's alright. I'm now working in a legal office and loving it. It's a great legal experience, it really is. I am so thrilled to have my job and get the practical experience, even though it doesn't pay very well. I am still waiting to hear from Kent and Loyola. I don't think I'll hear from either of them in time. I was thinking about writing that letter, but...I guess you could say I'm just afraid it will push back my application rather than send it forward if I send them something extra. Oh well. Happy Holidays to you.

Yer Personal Statement
Monday, August 08 2005 at 08:00 PM

If you need someone to look over it for you, just shoot me an e-mail, after the plethora of revisions I did, I'd be glad to offer someone some assistance.

Whoa!
Friday, December 16 2005 at 07:00 PM

Thanks for the info. You know, that's what burns me up about some of our own. They still haven't learned to go deeper than one's outward appearance. I would love to go there too and hopefully not all staff will prejudge. Good to hear you're successful w/the fee waivers over all though because these fees get a bit ridiculous... Anyway, thanks for the info.

THANK YOU A BUNCH
Thursday, August 11 2005 at 08:00 PM

Thank you for the words of support. I can guarantee you that I will take every bit of it without hesitation. I am taking off work for the entire month of January just to study, and I am really hoping that it makes a difference. I canoth thank you enough, I will let you know how I do in Feb. Again, you will get in, and thanks a bunch. Great Luck to you.

You sent ya stuff out right?
Monday, August 08 2005 at 08:00 PM

I'm assuming that you've been so busy transmitting applications and Dean Certification forms that you haven't had time to update your list up there. . . . . .right???

KEEP HOPE ALIVE
Monday, August 08 2005 at 08:00 PM

It's all about faith my lower score brethern. Plus another advantage I had at IOwa is the fact that they don't have a large population of Black Males applying to that school. Remember that you application is your best foot into the door, make your Personal statement scream out, "HEY DAMNIT! I'M A GREAT HUMAN BEING AND DESERVE TO BE IN YOUR SCHOOL"

mdlaw cannot follow directions.
Sunday, September 18 2005 at 08:00 PM

Good luck and I agree with Morehouseman. You will get in where you should be...keep your faith!

It's about time !!!
Monday, August 08 2005 at 08:00 PM

Finally I'm seeing the words PENDING up there, its only amount of time before they change to: ACCEPTED. Thanks for the book title, I'm def. gonna cop it.

Congratulations
Saturday, October 22 2005 at 08:00 PM

Hey higherlearning, I'm so happy to see your first acceptance. I know that there are so many more coming for you. I see an Illinois acceptance in your future : )Good Luck! ps thanks for the congrats, take care.

NW, etc.
Saturday, October 22 2005 at 08:00 PM

Hey, I'm throwing about 8-9 last minute apps to tier 1 schools. As for Northwestern, I think I might throw one their way too...soon. The deadline is February 15. I'm also planning on taking the LSAT again on Feb. 4. Please pray for me. I know Northwestern takes the highest score, so maybe there's a chance. As for my current first choice, it'd be Emory. I love that school, but I think they place a lot of emphasis on the LSAT. I don't think my chances are very good, but you never know if you don't try. If I don't get in there, I'm looking for a lot of money and an urban location elsewhere. I've lived in MS all my life and I need a change of pace. I'm praying for you. I know you're going to get in to a great school.

Thanks!!
Friday, December 16 2005 at 07:00 PM

I was a bit dissapointed, but you're right, you win some you lose some. Probably meant to be since I really didn't wanna be too far away from east coast. I hope to see some acceptances start coming in. Feels like a lifetime. Glad to see you've applied, I'm sure you'll do well. Congrats on Widener! Can't wait to see the rest.

Congrats
Sunday, September 18 2005 at 08:00 PM

on your first acceptance! It only takes 1....the rest should start coming in soon!!

Saturday, September 17 2005 at 08:00 PM

those are the two i have heard about. there are some summer programs. check out cleo and icleo.

congrats
Saturday, September 17 2005 at 08:00 PM

on Widener, that school is pretty awesome!! Good Luck with the rest of your apps!!

Re: JMLS
Tuesday, September 27 2005 at 08:00 PM

No, I didn't get any money back from them, but then again, I barely gave them any anyway. I only gave them $400 deposit plus $60 registration fee, those I will not get back, but the Dean was nice enough to not charge me any other tuition, because it was basically a medical withdrawal as well. I've been sick for a week and a half and so I just withdrew for medical reasons also. That's not the way I planned on starting out law school. Besides, now I can be part-time and go to school in the evening and maintain a full-time job to pay for my place.

Cleo
Saturday, September 17 2005 at 08:00 PM

how do you ask for a specific area to be places in? I didn't see that in the app. I hope I get in, do they automatically accept everyone or just a few? Thanks for the good wishes, I hope you are correct!! ;0)

Hey Higher..
Thursday, October 20 2005 at 08:00 PM

Thanks for the message and congrats on your acceptances so far. Which Weidner did you get into? Delaware? -MJ

Thanks
Saturday, September 17 2005 at 08:00 PM

for making me smile. Your post had me laughing and congrats on that great offer from Toledo, That is way sweet!! I can see that you will have alot of good options to choose between.

CONGRAT-U-DAMN-LATIONS!!!!!
Monday, August 08 2005 at 08:00 PM

Congrats on your acceptances man! I'm glad to see that you got a response so quickly. Now you can enjoy the "break" you've got between school. 4 more months and I'll be proudly marching across the stage too. Thanks for yer pep talk about the cost of school. I'm gonna keep buggin' the hell outta EVERYBODY at Iowa and seee if they can give me more money. They obviously saw something of value in my applicaiton when they admitted me, so hopefully they'll pony up some more dough! Congrats man!!!!! 2 down, countless to go!!!!

Thanks
Wednesday, September 07 2005 at 08:00 PM

for your note. I'm really excited about Drexel. I like the idea of a doing co-op. Plus they have a diversity fellowship that pays $5k annually plus a co-op. I'm definitely aiming for that. Congrats on your acceptances also!

It's like...
Friday, December 16 2005 at 07:00 PM

you talked them up. I got a packet, portfolio and letter informing me of my admissions contact team, in the mail today. I'm getting closer. Hey, when did you submit/complete your application for Widener?

Research Assistant
Monday, August 08 2005 at 08:00 PM

I dunno if other schools offer the program. They should! It'll mos. def. help alot of outta state residents. I guess yer right about Iowa. 51k ain't TOOO bad, I just hope I can get mroe change from other sources. AND I STILL HAVEN'T HEARD BACK FROM HOWARD!!! I don't care if they re-designed their website, unless they posted my acceptance letter on there. ah well, I need to start aprt. hunting.

congrats!
Tuesday, January 03 2006 at 07:00 PM

congrats on toledo!!! I've been doing some research as well, but the truth is I doubt I'd go... McGeorge here in CA is much better for me since I am in CA as well... but the $$$ Toledo offer is NICE... still I think I wouldn't leave California having the chance to stay... Good luck and happy thoughts on your pendings!!! :) :)

CONGRATS
Thursday, October 20 2005 at 08:00 PM

On Toledo and thanks for your kinds words as usually. I predict an UIUC acceptance for you as well. Would you choose them over Toledo?

Nothing holding me back
Saturday, February 04 2006 at 07:00 PM

Thanks for the best wishes. I applied to the schools according to where I would like to live, and I have nothing holding me back from any area. So why not take advantage. Oh yes, and the unsolicited fee waivers. Congrats on the 2 acceptances, and good luck with the rest of your schools! :)

Widener
Friday, December 16 2005 at 07:00 PM

I submitted it electronically through LSAC. So they had to have received it. I will call them tomorrow or some time this week. I keep getting all of this mail for UD Mercy but not one piece that says you're admitted..they're teasing me. Anyway, Holy Toledo..you're in! Good Job!

I emailed
Friday, December 16 2005 at 07:00 PM

Widener. She tells me it's now complete and ready for review. NOW it's complete? I'm almost sure they've had my application complete for quite some time. She said it should take 6-8 wks for a decision from Widener and Trial admission and waitlist takes a bit longer. So, I think I may be in the waitlist and/or trial admission status groups or something and she was hinting at that. Oh well, at least I contacted them. Thanks for the push. I was definitely following up on the ones I am most interested in but I would still like to hear from them all. I'm trying to give them time based on when I know they requested my reports from LSAC but some of these are just taking a looonnnnggg time. But that's ok, I guess no news is good news..for now. I didn't see the check status section of the site. I'll look again.

The above "bushadvisor" wasn't me. I'm sorry. But while I'm here let me congratulate you on your acceptances. Your undergrad major is very impressive and I know the admissions officers will look favorably on it. I'm crossing my fingers for you, but I don't think you'll need it. Best of luck!

Thanks higherlearning, I'm not sure if you were talking about the fight with the Troll or FCSL. Either way, I fought with one and succeded and will continue to do the same with the other. I see the Troll has made contact with you also. Well, I don't have to tell you what to do. Best wishes and drive on.

Yeah...I'm not too upset about the Brooklyn rejection. Buffalo is my #1 choice. Brooklyn was a long shot anyway. I was just pissed that they sent me so much literature about their programs. It faked me out.

I hope you get into the school's you most want to get into. Temple seems cool, but I am going to hold off on the visit until I know whether or not I get in. I seem to be a waitlist queen.

Hey man, I read all the support you left on my profile. I appreciate it. I'm really pulling for you...hopefully you'll get in everywhere, but congratulations on your acceptances so far! Alright, bro. Let me know if you need anything.

Thanks for the congrats. It's awesome to see another Biochem major! Hopefully it'll help distinguish us. Yea, I'll definitely check out that joint degree at Case, maybe JD/MA in Bioethics. Congrats on your acceptances so far and good luck with the rest!

The reason I'm gonna start looking for Apts in different cities so soon is because I pretty much have my mind set on where I want to go. I applied to the Bulk of my schools because they were Tier 1 and I wanted to maximize my possibilities and because it was free with my fee waiver. Iowa was the higest on my list (next to Yale), so I'm pretty excited about the prospect of going there. Unless some school offers me full/half ride, I'm gonna be looking towards Iowa. The only other schools that I'll seriously look at would be Univ of Georgia and Yale, for obvious reasons.

I like what you said about the URM. I took the Dec. LSAT at UC Berkeley and I was the only Black test taker out of 200 or so people in my group. Congrats on your acceptances and keep your fingers crossed. I'll be keeping up with your progress.

Thanks

again HigherLearning. It does feel good to have options (as you would know). I see you are complete at most places. Now you can just sit back and let the admits roll in.

Thanks for the congrats and good wishes. I've seen your profile and exchanges with others on LSN. I was going to contact you soon and you beat me to it. I read the post about your uncle and was curious to know if he was General Councel of an NAACP chapter in PA or if he was ever at LDF in NYC? I also play guitar, though I doubt I could play a convincing "little wing" on my tele.

i made $3000 last yr, so I think I have need. And when I say I have moving costs I mean when I get my summer job and make them, lol. I know I have the need, just not sure if they will have any spots lef for me at the reduced rate seeing as they told me they have very few spots.

Cleveland Marshall
Wednesday, September 07 2005 at 08:00 PM

is a pretty soild school. As of right now I'm leaning towards Drexel because of the scholarhsip. I went to the info session last week and was very impresed by what I heard. The Cleveland Marshall acceptance makes my decision a little tougher. not to mention that I still have other schools to hear from.

I tried to support my fellow HBCU, lord knows I tried, but they are pushing me towards going to school with Whitey. (No offense to any melanin-deprived readers) I'm giving Howard until March 20th to respond. If I don't hear anything from them I'm just gonna send my seat Deposit to Iowa and just call it a day.

Nope..I have not heard back from them....except for "your file is complete and will be going to the add comm shortly...when we recieve a decision we will notify you....thanks for your interest in (enter law school name)" So, it is quite frustrating as I have been complete with them since October. No idea if it's good or bad that they've held onto it this long.

Thanks for the words of optimism on Boalt. I would really really like to go there. Same thing with GW. But it's gonna be tough to get in. Keeping my fingers crossed. Right now the plan is to use the JD for patent law. Maybe work at a firm for a couple of years then try to do in-house for a biotech company or even a university. I take it you are also going to do IP? I think you'll definetly get into a school in Chicago. Could you fill me in more about GMU and the USPTO? In what ways would USPTO be better than firms? I honestly don't know much about this. Thanks man and good luck!

this is like a clerk-ship for patent agent/lawyers. it just looks great on the resume. you also will have relevant experience under your belt. it's not unheard of that students get high-paying work pt at firms as patent agents.

thanks for posting on my page! You've got some great insight above. I agree with your thoughts about the year of the URM--the last 2 years have had very low URM application rates--hopefully that will change. I know you'll get into some great schools. You did the right thing by applying to a lot of schools of all tiers. It will pay off in the end. Congrats thus far! Also, if it's not too late, you should consider applying to Penn and Wisconsin.

jarabe. my sesitivity was only a reaction to recent negative criticism that i have witnessed on latinlords as well as other profiles belonging to individuals with lower lsats. i believe that a positive attitude is an essential component to all successes. i felt that your comment could have a particularly damaging effect to LLs determined attitude. i did not want to see him defeated, so i commented. why do you not have an acct? are you in the app process? in law school? practicing? the reason i ask is because i have been told that it would have been better for me to have pursued a less challenging major to inflate my gpa. this advice seems contradictory to your constructive criticism.

about Drake. They seem like a good school, what about them made you not apply specifically. Do tell all ;0)

re: what?
Saturday, September 17 2005 at 08:00 PM

i stand by what i wrote. i feel you are reading more into it than is there. i have heard that applicants are down in general and especially for urms. being that the number of jobs is finite, it stands to reason that fewer graduates would mean less competition for jobs in three years. the fact that i chose to opine on this does not any way indicate that i do not believe in my abilities. also i take umbrage with your statement: "believing in your own abilities instead of your skin color and our people will rise up and get somewhere!" this implies that we are nowhere. as an african american i believe that my 'skin color' plays a role in all things that i perceive and do in this life. (i take great pride in my 'skin color.) i also believe it plays a role in how i am perceived by others. i am not naive enough to believe that firms will not 'see' my skin color in three years just because i have a jd, have made law review and been awarded order of the coif. if they were so blind to my skin color there would not be statistics kept on the number of minorities at firms as associates and partners. based on your comment, i don't believe you are a minority. next time why don't you sign in before you comment to my profile. hth

I know this is going to sound insincire, and I do not expect your forgiveness but I think that I owe you an apology whether you will forgive me or not. I honestly cannot explain the motivation behind my previous post and looking back I am disgusted at myself for taking such actions. You deserve everything you have accomplished to this point and everything that you will certainly accomplish in the future. You have my sincerest apologies for the previous comments that I have made. Everything seems so distant on the internet, like you can write a comment and forget that it is going to an actual person. I am sorry that this realization came so late to me, and once again I am sorry for my past actions. Congratulation on the schools you have been admitted to and best of luck in all of your future endeavors. If you could please do me a favor and delete my previous message from your file I would greatly appreciate that. I am ashamed at my actions and I promise you that I will not take such actions again (whether it is on your profile or on that of someone else). Once again, you have my sincerest apologies.

Today is a rough day for me. I have seen so many people get accepted in one day that I'm baffled. I am NOT going to take the LSAT again just to get into a Tier 1, just my thought. I believe that success can come just as good from a Tier 2, 3, and some 4's. I have my eyes on the prize and I will definitely keep u posted.

Saturday, September 17 2005 at 08:00 PM

Thanks for being so nice and putting a smile on my face. UF shocked me, that was my state school that I thought I had a shot at. Then I just felt bad I could tell the lady at Indiana felt bad for me, haha ;0) Harvard has already let in some great people, I don't even equate myself with them. Completely different level of application. I don't think I couldn't handle it but my numbers are just not there. I am not a hater though, my life and path is predestined. But thanks for the faith!! I went to an online chat with Drake today, the school is growing on me very quickly. Not sure if it is because of all the DINGS or what, but I really can see myself there. Plus I dreamt I was living in Iowa the other night. I just don't know what is up with my apps. There is obviously something they don't like about me. I just don't know what to think or do right now.

INDY instate tution
Sunday, August 21 2005 at 08:00 PM

Seriously?? How do you know that I could get instate tuition??? How can that be possible?? I think I read that you had to live in Indiana for over a year for reasons other than education. If that was true then every student could do that after their first year there. Maybe it is b/c I would be living in an apt and not in a dorm?? Can you get me some hard core "evidence" proving this assumption?? (look talking like a lawyer already) :)

JMLS
Tuesday, September 27 2005 at 08:00 PM

The reason so few people go complete at JMLS until really late in the cycle is because they literally take FOREVER to view applications. They are so concerned about several other things at the school, that dealing with the process of accepting students does not seem to be very important to them. Especially since they have two entering classes, they really don't do that much for the entering August class until February anyway. Hopefully you will hear something soon though. Good luck. I just know this from talking to people who are 2L's and 3L's and know a lot about the school.

Thanks for the congrats on St. Louis. I applied to alot of midwestern schools, so there is a good chance that I will be out there in the fall. I would be willing and eager to travel if you could our LSN peers to meet up. I am curious to see where everyone will enroll in the fall. I like your entrepreneurial spirit. I could see myself jumping at the change to form a minority law firm...so I hope you will find a place for me in your rolodex. You will be due for a few more decisions soon. You're off to a good start.

for being such a nice person and making me smile. There comes a time in your life where you have to learn to relax and just be happy with what you have and just work as hard as you can to attain further goals. This is that time for me. I am sure you will get into Case, it would be awesome to be classmates.

Thanks...
Monday, January 30 2006 at 07:00 PM

for the link and the congrats. I was able to spend a few minutes looking at that firm and I liked what I saw. I don't know anything about the business side of how these firms operate, but I am curious to see what kind of capital investment is required of the founding partners. I am also interested in finding out how their time is split between billable hours and drumming up business. I obviously have some reading to do. I like your idea about the networking opportunity. I am very interested and my perference at this point would be DC or Philly. NYC would be nice, but it might be a bit cost prohibative given how expensive everything is in the city. Chicago would be fine. I'd have to catch a flight, but I would gladly make the trip. Keep me posted on how this comes together.

Thanks!

No idea why I was dinged. I sent the same PS to most schools and it wasn't controversial at all. I hope you get into CASE!! It would be AWESOME knowing someone there!! I am pretty sure you will get in, I mean you are getting into schools who don't want me and so they are seeing something in you!!!!!! Also per your Ossie Davis comment, I kinda met Ruby Dee earlier this year!! ;0) Plus I would love to meet Stokeley Carmicheal!!!

what do you know about OHIO??

Just let me say...
Friday, December 16 2005 at 07:00 PM

Congrats on John Marshall...you did it again! Glad things are going well. Now, as for Howard. I'm very disappointed. I wonder if their paying more attention to numbers now...it makes me sad as well. You're right, the $1 check idea is hilarious...lol. Thanks. I needed that. I hope I get some other good news soon though. It's getting quite close to seat deposit time and I although I'm seriously considering FCSL, I at least would like some options. Anyway, chin is up, back is straight and I'll wait patiently...well, as patiently as I can anyway...LOL. Thanks again!!!

Nice

I just noticed that you got into John Marshall w/money. Congrats!

Thank you!
Friday, September 16 2005 at 08:00 PM

You are so kind. I wish you the best in all your endeavors! I'll be so happy if I get accepted to Penn State!

ND and celebrities
Monday, January 02 2006 at 07:00 PM

If I go to ND, I'll take you with me- how about that? And if I decide not to, I'll withdrawl ASAP and write them a nice note about how I'm willing my spot to you. I emptied an entire Nalgene bottle on Martin Sheen's lap while trying to lug all my crap through first class and into 'general plebian' seating on a flight back east. Awesome.

Thanx for the NOte

I see a NEW addition to the acceptance list. Congrats man! Too bad about Notre Dame, it seems they are doin' that to ERRRRbody. But it's cool tho, at leas you are going to SOMEBODY's school! Don't worry about Rejections, you'll be fine!

Damn! I am sorry about this one. You will forget about this when the Chicago schools come in.

Congratulations on your acceptances and I wish you the best with your pending apps. I think your celeb list is definitely more impressive than my major.

quickly. Yes, thanks for the encouragement. It seems all the bad news/difficulties were piling up but hey, not everything you truly want comes that easy. So, I took in the news and shook it off! ...cause, "I'm just to good to be crying over uga, too good to be cryin over Howard, said I'm just too good to be cryin over emory...' uh uh...LOL sorry, changed the words around-had to hype myself up...LOL I can't wait to do those dances too! :-) Oh, and sorry about Minnesota. But hey, that's only 1 out of 6...you're rockin' it so far! I hope the good news keeps comin! You deserve it all!

Sunday, August 21 2005 at 08:00 PM

Hey I was reading some old posts you left on my LSN. The first on actually said that you were concidering INDY as one of your top choices. WHat happened?! Why didn't you apply there?? It would have been great to see you there! Good luck this week. I hear it is a big one for us!

Thanks
Saturday, September 17 2005 at 08:00 PM

so much, I really hope you get into Illinois as well!! I would love to be classmates with you!!! It's so crazy but I was so happy by my acceptance today, I had a feeling I was going to get one, but wasn't sure which school. (not lieing, but I had a dream this morning that I got a rejection) :0) Everytime I have these dreams something comes in the mail, haha Now if only I could dream the lottery numbers, haha

Hey
Monday, January 30 2006 at 07:00 PM

I had never heard of this whole T14 thing when I applied. I just choose schools where I thought I would be competitive. Now that I look back, I applied to every school from 15 through 19. It would look like I dodged the top 14, but I didn't spend much time on schools where my LSAT was below the 25% range.

Top Choices
Monday, January 30 2006 at 07:00 PM

As of today (Since I don't have any money from Fordham or Wisc.) my top choices are Minn, IU, and W&L. USD is a bit of a wild card since my interest in going there is more personal than academic. Given my current set of options, which school would you choose?

Thanks
Monday, January 30 2006 at 07:00 PM

Your message was very thoughtful and I agree entirely. My father was one of only two in the class of '65 and graduated in the top 12% of his class while commuting every day from the Bronx. He turned job an offer to be the first black associate at a huge firm to work in the movement arguing school desegregation cases. I know that he chose his course for our benefit, so that future generations would have more opportunities. In that sense, going for it is exactly what he wants.

Friday, December 09 2005 at 07:00 PM

thanks for the nice message, i doubt i'll get any money from them, but with in-state tuition i really don't care haha. good luck, i hope you get in too!

hey.
Friday, December 16 2005 at 07:00 PM

You're welcome. Yeah, Cath U wasn't even on my radar. I don't know why. I don't even think I looked at that school. Plus which, DC really wasn't high on my list of places to be unless it was Howard and we see how that went. Anyway, I hope I get into RU-Newark too. Seems these schools are on a rejection spree and they're all targeting me...No, not really but that's just how it feels with the last group of schools. I'm actually taking it all pretty well. But anyway, FCSL has a special Sports law program they started last year. Although it's new, it may still be ideal for me. I can stay within the entertainment/sports/IP fields although I do hope to have room for some child/family law classes too. Once everything comes in I'll evaluate and make more definitive decisions.

Thank you...
Friday, December 16 2005 at 07:00 PM

for the pep talk. Oh, and sorry about Depaul but like you said, You're NOT OUT of that game! There's still hope. Again, as I said before, you deserve the best...you're optimism and great spirit will lead you on to great things. Your support and encouragement to others prove you can and will make a difference so you can't help but succeed. So, shake it off and keep your head up my brutha!

depaul
Saturday, July 09 2005 at 08:00 PM

I did not send in any supplemental materials to depaul. From what I understand, people accepted PT are still in the running for FT. I was wondering about the $$ as well, but I have a feeling that less money is reserved for PT people. Good luck with your schools!

re kent and loyola
Saturday, July 09 2005 at 08:00 PM

Yeah, same here, i prefer those two as well. but it never hurts having another accepted under one's belt! best of luck.

Monday, January 30 2006 at 07:00 PM

I don't know where I want to practice. All I can say at this point is that I have no interest in Boston, South Florida, or Houston. I do love sunshine and I love San Diego and the USD campus (I visited in Dec.). Most of my family is on the east coast, so I would consider it a risk to attend a school like USD with a strong regional reputation but little in the way of national name recognition. USD is a good fit given my interest in administrative law, so I don't know. My choice will not be an easy one.

Chicago

Hey there. I saw you post on rose23's profile. Actually, Kent is ranked better than Loyola chicago.

Hey
Saturday, September 17 2005 at 08:00 PM

Thanks for the sorry about GT. It is funny but the high schools that reject me don't make me feel bad, like the UMICH rejection didn't even sting but I am still thinking about HAMLINE, haha Honestly, I still am like, why did they reject me?? I just don't understand. That is the only rejection I just can't get out of my mind. I really like the sound of UIUC and Case and would be happy and content at both schools. I am really trying to look at finances now and the only schools I am really concerned about that could affect my decisions are Iowa and Wisconsin. Plus I think you have a real good shot at alot of the schools left on your list including Case and UIUC!!!

I'm being hopeful
Monday, August 08 2005 at 08:00 PM

about Yale, I would be doing backflips if I got into that school. My squad doesn't go to Nationals until April 7th-9th. But we're getting ready for it by practicing everyday and making sure that we more or less perfect our gameplan. Congrats on your acceptances, you've got more coming I'm sure.

Well, ALL-RIGHT!!
Friday, December 16 2005 at 07:00 PM

Congrats my friend. They're coming in. I was actually visiting your profile to tell you I keep 4getting to say, count me in on your urm network thingy...LOL. Anyway, again, congrats... and good money too!

I am sorry to hear about Temple. Given what you have told me before, that school did you wrong by not at least holding your application or giving you a waitlist. I'm glad that you had some good new to offset the bad yesterday. I have family in Queens and I used to play tennis in Hempstead. In fact, I was on the Hofstra campus for the first time last summer. I don't know much about the law school, but I can tell about the campus and Hempstead L.I.

Saturday, September 17 2005 at 08:00 PM

Hey, if I was you I would be thinking the same thing. Full tuition that first year and then work super super hard to transfer. What you have to think is , if you don't get to transfer would you be happy with a degree from Toledo? If you don't really think so, then maybe thats not a good idea. Did you sign up for Cleo? if so, and you have no positive results by then, you can write all your schools and ask then to reconsider your application based upon how you do at Cleo. Also, if you go to Cleo and then Toledo, I think you will have a great shot of doing AWESOME, I have heard they really prepare you well for your first year. But I hope you get into Illinois so we can be classmates. Also make sure you submit info to ND, last year they took quite a few people off of the WL.

so I see...

you are balling out of control! Great job with those $$$!!! After hastings I am recovering from my life-threatening battle with paranoia. But waiting still sucks...especially since I am waiting on all my #1's at this point!!! I know somebody in at Vandy who is not going--I will pressure her ot withdraw so you can up your chances!!! I don't know if I said "I'm in" but I totally am and am very glad somebody is going to attempt to bring all the superstart "URMs" togethere! Imagine the networking opportunities...I think there was something on LSD about a young black professionals online group, did you see that?

Apartments Apartments Apartments...
Friday, November 25 2005 at 07:00 PM

Hey HL, Thanks for the message. I'm about to hit the spaz button as far as apartments go. I have no choice but to find my own place, because campus apts. are reserved for married students or those with kids. The rents near NW's campus are ridiculous (although not as ridiculous as DC's). I haven't found a place to stay as of yet, but my folks and I are going up in June to scout out some places. Hope to see you as well and good luck with the rest of your apps!!! -BNM

yeah, I was checking on you earlier too. I hope all's going well with you. I guess the weekend delivered NO news for us. I hope they're coming soon so I can make a decision. I think I'll send my seat deposit soon to FCSL although I have faith others will come in favorably. UDM, I'm a bit nervous about because they had something for their accepted students this weekend and their deadline for the finaid app is April 1 for accepted students. I'm sure they have other dates but that just made me nervous...LOL. Anyway, thanks for checkin on me!

Saturday, September 17 2005 at 08:00 PM

Those people will never get me down or effect me, I should get used to it from now. Because alot of people will be mad at a successful black lawyer. My friends on here know my numbers and if my stalker on LSD wants to come to LSN so let him. It makes absolutely no difference to me, I mean he says he is "outing" me but from what? Most of my friends on here know my numbers, and obviously so do I, so who would I benefitting by lieing?? Idiots

Howard + Stetson
Monday, August 08 2005 at 08:00 PM

So yeah, those two schools have given me admission. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate it; however, I'd appreciate money alot more! Stetson has already had two representatives call me and the Dean of Admissions E-mailed me to congratulate me and my team on our Mock Trial victory. However, she then went on to say that AFTER I send in my seat deposit, they'll pull my FAFSA and put together my Fin. Aid. package. . . . . . They think they slick. It looks like I'll eb calling Athens, Ga. my new home this fall and attending UGA. But my momma has gottent his crazy idea in my head that Yale might admit me. Thanks to her Im' anxiously checking my inbox and mailbox everyday hoping to receive a letter. Anyhow, congrats on all your money!

In any case, I'm interested in your urm networking opp. I'm from the south, but I'm definitely up for traveling to dc, chicago, etc. Good luck the rest of the cycle ;-)

Hi! Thanks for the comment. I think I'm going to withdraw from UDM. But yea, I applied to only a few because I'm a Canadian student and I'm still waiting to hear from them first. The US is only a second option for me, since I eventually want to come back to Canada to practice. Congrat on getting accepted to your first choice! I hope you get the money!

UDM
Friday, September 02 2005 at 08:00 PM

Hey...Nope, still not heard back. I have been complete since October! I sent an e-mail about a month and a half ago, asking if they knew when I might hear....no response. So, Last week I sent a letter of continued interest via e-mail, and mailed a hard copy...no response. Then Tuesday of this week, I sent a follow-up e-mail just to confirm that they had received the letter...no response. I think they made it pretty clear that I'm rejected by the lack of interest in even sending a 2 word response to any of the 3 e-mails over the past two months. Perhaps they send out a ton of rejections all at once in an attempt to save a buck or two in mass mailing? I don't know what to think at this point...seems pretty hopeless. I would have appreciated even an e-mail that said "piss off" ...at least I'd know where I stand.

US News
Saturday, January 07 2006 at 07:00 PM

Well, US News uses some pretty crazy methods for ranking schools. It certainly is possible for Loyola to pass Kent, but I still do not think it's likely. I didn't apply to either school of course, so it doesn't affect me at all though:) Look at San Diego, you would think their ranking would be higher b/c it's more selective than the schools ranked around it, yet its been ranked around 63 for a long time now.

Chicago
Tuesday, September 27 2005 at 08:00 PM

The reason I only wanted to apply to Chicago schools is because last cycle I applied to other's, but I just knew I wouldn't be happy somewhere else. I wanted to make sure to move far away from where I used to live, in order to start a new life and concentrate fully on law school. I had a job secured and offered to me before moving to Chicago by a long-time friend who is a lawyer that I've known for 10 years. I was able to secure a condo very quickly through a friend of his who is a realtor who works in the same building and she knows a lot of very good people who secure loans very quickly. But I visisted Chicago several times in the last year and a half before I moved here and every time I loved it and knew this was the place for me.

Travel time to school
Tuesday, September 27 2005 at 08:00 PM

It really depends on the kind of person you are. Personally, I refused to live more than a few miles from school. The reason for my decision was that I commuted for almost an hour and a half for my undergraduate and graduate years and I was not about to go through law school like that. Secondly, unlike some other people, I cannot study on the train, it's just too noisy and I can only study in quiet environments. Therefore, I made sure that, in order to maximize my study time, I lived very close to school. I moved into my current condo not even knowing that I was going to go to Kent, but it worked out great because Kent is only 4 blocks from where I live. Therefore, there is no right or wrong answer to where you should live in school, it is all based upon your personal preferences and what you personally can deal with. Secondly, DePaul outright rejected me last year. I don't think DePaul really cares about having the best quality students. I didn't even bother applying there this year, I was not about to give them another application fee. Last year, they sent me a waiver, but only AFTER I had applied. Like get real! Anyway, so don't bum yourself out too much over that. I would, however, suggest that if you come to Chicago, to consider another school other than John Marshall. It's not nearly as great of a school as they attempt to make it out to be. They are so behind the times! Heck, my computer is not that old, but was not even compatible with their wireless network! And to top that off, they only have computer ports for like 2 out of every 20 to 30 students or so in the first year classrooms! As if that's really intelligent! I'm a person who has to be able to use my computer, because I type way faster than I write. Anyway, good luck to you. I'm looking forward to the fall and Kent's admitted student's weekend is in a week and a half.

L&C
Monday, January 30 2006 at 07:00 PM

I love Oregon. I've spent some time in Portland and visited a friend at Lewis & Clark College. Absolutely beautiful setting and a good school...could be a good choice for you in the end. If you are interested in the school, a visit might be worthwhile.

Thanks for the Welcome
Monday, March 27 2006 at 07:00 PM

Hey. I was too frustrated when I found out that was waitlisted to Howard. It is a good school, and I think it is now starting to realize its worth and it is trying to increase its ranking. I am from NY and I would really like to go back there for law school. I wouldnt be mad if I got into Brooklyn or Cardozo PT. Good luck with the rest of ur apps! Are u considering going to Hofstra??? The minority open house is this weekend. Definately, let me know if u are going.

Toledo
Monday, January 30 2006 at 07:00 PM

Those early start programs are great provided that you can maintain the same energy level throughout the year. IU-B offers an early start class during the summer, but it does not reduce the courseload during the first year. The benefit of the class is simply to get a jump on how to be a law student, how to produce effective outlines, and how to prepare and take law school exams. Free tuition is hard to turn down. It will be interesting to see what L&C offers. Perhaps you should inform L&C of your Toledo offer and see what they do for you. I am stressing pretty hard over my offer from IU. I have until Saturday to decide and I change my mind several times every day.

Friday, December 16 2005 at 07:00 PM

You're right, I've had a pretty hard week, as a matter of fact, this whole month. Other stuff going on and this process, or at least receiving so many dings, didn't make it any better. But, that's ok. I'm a trooper and I just have to stay positive. I appreciate the pep talk and I definetly hope to hear from UDM soon! Thanks again!

Congrats on full ride at Toledo
Monday, December 05 2005 at 07:00 PM

That would be very difficult to turn down. Being debt free at the end of three years is a wonderful thing. Having a law degree after three years and being debt free? Glorious! And thanks for stopping by my profile. I've enjoyed following your progress during this cycle. All the best to you. Take care.

Kent
Saturday, January 07 2006 at 07:00 PM

So much for your prediction you posted on my comment list. What was that? "Loyola will pass Kent in 2007?" Seems to me like Kent is crushing loyola. It's bad enough that Kent jumped up several spots, but Loyola DROPPED several spots as well. OUCH. Again, I'm not sure why I care. I didn't apply to either school:) Cheers

indiana cleo
Sunday, August 21 2005 at 08:00 PM

yea I actually didn't get into the cleo program. I thought I did, but the school actually has its own summer program. One that is not affiliated with cleo. The indiana cleo program they said is a separate application. Its kool though, this program is specific to the school. I just wish that they didn't make the two programs so confusing, b/c I didn't know that I had to find my own housing until I went to the open house, that kinda put a rush on things. The cleo program actually provides housing I got confused as to which program I was in. Kinda weird how they do things in indiana. Any how congrats on Toledo!!

Friday, December 16 2005 at 07:00 PM

Sorry about the Nova man. But, as you said, with your research, you can kind of rest a bit because Toledo is pretty much your best deal so far. I know we gotta make some decisions. Perhaps we'll start getting more decisions since a lot of the seat deposit deadlines have passed or are quickly approaching. I hope so. For me, I have to decide when, if at all, I'll be sending my seat deposit. I'm hoping for two more positive decisions (two that I've really researched as well) and then I'll be happy..LOL. Anyway, all this is still to say, sorry about Villanova and no matter what, you've got a great deal and you'll definitely do well. Still...I'll keep an eye on ya. :-)

More about Chicago
Tuesday, September 27 2005 at 08:00 PM

I basically love Chicago. I just moved here in January and wouldn't trade it for anything else. I guess I'm kind of biased because I spent so much time coming here beforehand and checking the city out and making sure it was for me, that once I moved here, I knew it was the place for me.

Congrats on Toledo
Monday, December 05 2005 at 07:00 PM

I know that it's a relief to make a final decision. Now go and enjoy the rest of your spring and summer. Take care.

You might as well ask, all they can do is say no. But I highly doubt that they will lower the gpa requirement, especially at a t3 or lower. Alot of those schools use the scholarships to get people in and then have a low curve to get them off of the scholarship. It happened to my cousin at dayton. Good luck, Where are you going to go. CLEO

Thanks! I was nominated to the program by the University of Houston. I applied back in november and I thought, for the same reasons you do, that I was not going to get in. I hope that one of your schools nominates you, would love to spend this summer with interesting ppl! Best of luck in law school.

Hey i'm sorry to hear...i was reading what u wrote on mdu20's pg. Since u haven't received a final response yet,i'm still praying w/ optimism 4 u. i recommend calling the school that accepted u, and requesting if dean can send letter 2 cleo, particularly b/c u feel it will better prepare u 4 rigorous challenges of 1L...particularly if that institution is a member school of cleo, supporting or sustaining, it may help. Good luck always!

Yeah, I'm totally down with that idea. See Chicago and meet my "new" old friends, haha. Definetly keep me posted!!

What have you heard about Toledo? I've gotten in there also, but I don't know very much about the school? Have you heard good things?

I feel your pain...

I was scoring in the mid 160's too and blown away when I got my score back! I had never scored that low ever, my 1st and lowest score was 157. I'm hoping that Adcomms will atleast consider me a minority I am one but most apps ask that I check White/Caucasian even though I'm middle eastern (definitely wouldn't be considered white anywhere else). You've done great! Congrats on all your acceptances and even waitlists!

This was a tough decision for me, but I am beginning to feel really good about it. I am going to be in Indiana for a summer start criminal law class, so I will easily be within driving distance to Chicago and could meet preferably anytime after August 9th. Congratulations on Toledo. I'm sure you could have guessed that I would have made the same choice. 100K or 150K+ debt is for real and would not willingly pay full price for any school outside of the T-12. Please feel free to stay in touch via e-mail or LSN.

Toldeo

I'd really like the be in Chicago, that's why I'm crossing my fingers for either DePaul or Chicago-Kent. I went to school in Chicago and I've been back in Ohio for a year now, and I just don't know if I can stomach another three years of it. And Toledo's class size is really small... But on the other hand, I agree with you, Toldeo is the best option academically. I just don't know that I could justify paying all the money to go to John Marshall when it isn't as highly competitive, just because it's in Chicago. And I haven't heard much about it, either. Decisions, decisions...

Hey!

No, I wouldn't take the LSAT again if I were you. You have done great and have a wonderful scholarship and I don't think you will have any problems transferring if you choose to. Be happy for your great success! I wish I was in your position=)

Hey Higherlearning, I see you've made a great decision. Well, I'm still hanging here. I need to know anything that you may know about NCCU School of Law. It would really help me out. Thanks,

No, I haven't visited yet but I'm going soon to check out the neighborhoods and so forth. I'm hoping to get a look (tour depending on when I get down there) at the new bldng.

Is it bad...

...that I have no idea what you are talking about? Bar exam waiver? Apparently I didn't study the school I'm going to well enough, huh? Oh well.

Cool cool
Thursday, December 22 2005 at 07:00 PM

Yeah, after I read your first comment I did a little research and figured out what you were talking about. I don't plan on staying in Wisconsin though, so it doesn't do me much good. But who knows what will happen. Maybe I'll fall in love with the FREEZING COLD WINTERS. Okay, probably not.

Toledo

Hey... I don't know if you've visited Toledo's campus or anything, but I went up there yesterday to take a look around. The campus is in a really nice area of town and it looks like there's a lot of housing nearby. Toledo seems like it'd be pretty easy to navigate, but it's pretty small, and from what my uncle tells me (he lived there for 4 years), there's not a lot to do there. It just seems like the school is really small... like when they needed forms for people for graduation, they wrote their names on a dry-erase board in the lobby of the Law Center. I just don't know if I'm going to feel suffocated there since both the school and Toledo are so small. I didn't know if maybe you had visited the school and had a different perspective.

Marquette over Indiana

I honestly have no idea. Probably the same reason I picked my first college and the same reason I transfered to my second...I just felt like it. There is no rhyme or reason to any of the life decisions I\\\'ve made. But so far it\\\'s worked out really well for me, so I\\\'m just going where my heart leads me.

Toledo vs. Loyola
Sunday, December 11 2005 at 07:00 PM

I am from Toledo and I like Toledo. I feel that because of this I will perform better in law school here. Also Toledo gets me instate tution vs. private and the housing will also be half in toledo than chicago. I feel that me graduating in the top ten percent vs. loyola top half will make up for the differences in prestige. Also Toledo is once again teir 2 which makes me happy. I will pry work in the area so all in Toledo is pry about the best fit for me, excluding that I really wanted Ohio state.

Strapped for cash but buying a new car? I doubt i will make it to the meet and greet. I going to try to get an apartment at the Country Club apts only 3 miles from campus. As for transferring to Colorado, hopefully it will be an option but I will have to get through 1L first. See you in August.
