Additional info & updates

Received a letter from IU-Bloomington saying that I was rejected. Guess they didn't get my letter saying I withdrew.

7-24-08: Email from UVA, I was rejected. Say they are up 20% in application this year and over-enrolled (Does anyone know if that's true?). Still glad I was at least waitlisted.

6-6-08: On the summer waitlist at Northwestern . They say about 25% admitted. Mailed out my supporting documents and waitlist letter

These are my thoughts on the schools I applied to:

Akron
Its just not ranked high and I don't like the location. I was very impressed with their admissions staff they are A+

American
My least favorite of the DC schools. Bad location and weak reputation for the area. Also, no scholarship money.

Chicago-Kent
I don't have any family in the area. I like the school, very nice building and technology. The location was also great (right by Union Station). In the end family was more important than being in Chcago. Awarded full tution in 1st year and 20,000 2nd and 3rd. Needed 3.25 to keep the scholarship. Took a tour of Chicago-Kent. I liked it, the facilities were very nice. I sat in on a class and the teacher was very relaxed. My biggest negative is that it is Chicago's #3 school and everyone has said that to get a job at a big firm (out of Kent) you need to be in the top 10%

FIU
Very nice administration. Everyone likes Miami but I just dont think that is the right environment for me. I think the law school will continue to rise in the rankings over the next few years. Awarded full tuition scholarship. Needed 3.0 to keep the scholarship.

UF
Bad experiences with the administration (they were rude in the beginning). People got a lot nicer as the process went on (and I told them how rude everyone had been). The school's ranking has been falling and it has a bad reputation for being a cutthroat environment. Just doesn't seem like the place for me. The school has a great alumni association though. I was offered a First Generation Grant from UF for 15 hours of tuition in the Spring and Fall.

FSU
Great location and a very friendly faculty. Originally given Katzentine Scholarship 8,000/year I was recently awarded a University Fellowship!! This is 12 hours each semester, $1,200 for insurance, and $18,000. How sweet is that?! Only bad thing is its only one year. Have to decide by April 15th.

Georgetown
Great school and reputation. Rejected even though I said I'd accept PT.

George Washington University
This was my #1 realistic school and I was crushed that I got rejected. Great location in a great city. Guess it just wasn't meant to be.

Harvard
Great campus, alumni association, and reputation. Only bad thing is its so damn competitive there (might get murdered in your sleep, JK).

IU-Indianapolis
Needed to stay out-of-state resident and maintain a 3.4 to keep the scholarship. I like the city a lot, not too big.

Loyola Chicago
Again family was a big factor. I didn't get as good a vibe from Loyola as I did from Kent, so it was my #2 in Chicago.
Needed 3.0 to keep the scholarship.

Northwestern
Deferred and still considering the school. The cost is pretty high though.

Tulane
I love Tulane and New Orleans. The only problem for me was that my wife will be entering medical school when Im a 2L. This means that I'll be in the same area for 2 years after I graduate. I just don't want to be stuck doing Napoleonic Code so that sealed the deal for me.

Virginia
Got a fee waiver. Great reputation but I haven't done a lot of research because I never thought I'd get in.

Yale
It's Yale....nuff said.

Why GW?

Right now I think that GW is more likely to take me than Georgetown and I really like the location. But you never know.

Congrats on all your acceptances. Looks like you're having a nice run. I'm from South Florida, so i know the attractiveness of going to either FSU or UF for the money, but honestly, i'm pretty sure i'm withdrawing from both, because they suck. They're both too big, really not that good, and after going to a few admitted students days already, private schools just take care of their students better. So thought i could give you that heads up as you go through the rest of this. Good luck!

As far as I know, they have not yet begun to award scholarships and will not begin to do so until the spring. I do plan to fill out the FAFSA and have it sent to them, though. Congrats as well on the admission and good luck with financial aid!

congrats

I dont think theyre the best in the state. They were once but those days are over. FSU is definately going to pass them in the rankings by the times im out of law school. However, they do have a great alumni association.

If it was the right school for then congratulations. I still believe that UF will continue on a downward trend. If you're going to leave a comment please leave your username. Thanks

i\'m making progress with the studying but i don\'t have any alone and quiet space so it\'s difficult right now. i\'m confident i\'ll break 165 though...shooting for 170s. i\'m going to argentina for six weeks and hope to take some practice tests there and when i get back towards the end of august, i\'ll have the house to myself and will be able to study every day. i don\'t have a job so i have time on my side. thanks again for the comment. i had actually been looking at your profile right before you commented on mine. belated congrats on all of your awesome acceptances!
