Non-traditional (read old) first-time law school applicant.

*Scholarship amounts are total amount awarded for multiple years*

11.8.07-In at Phoenix by snail mail...that first acceptance takes the pressure off!

11.13.07-In at Baltimore by snail mail. I have always wanted to live in Maryland.

12.3.07-In at Thomas Jefferson by e-mail...nice scholarship offer...close to my home & my family would love to live in SD so they definetly bumped up the list a few spots!

12.8.07-In at Thomas Cooley-50% scholarship. Their reputation scares me...

12.10.07-In at Appalachian by snail mail. Another safety, I was hoping for money but my low LSAT strikes again!

12.14.07-In at Akron by call & email. I applied FT but they only accepted me part-time.

12.18.07-In at Oklahoma City by call-nice scholarship offer. Wife isn't real fond of OK but the money is tempting.

12.20.07-In at Franklin Pierce by email. One of my top 5! No money though...damn that LSAT!

12.24.07-In at Valpo by mail. No money...awfully expensive.

1.7.08-Ouch!! 2 dings in one day. Maryland & George Mason by mail...oh well I was a longshot at both.

1.8.08-Back on track! Admitted by phone to Hamline today.

1.11.08-Damn it!! Waitlisted at Denver-this is my first choice since I have family there and my wife wants to move there. This sucks...

1.14.08-Accepted by mail to Widener, my choice of PA or DE campus.

1.17.08-Accepted py phone to NESL, got the package the same day with a nice personal note from the admissions dean...very nice touch and the first I've had...someone loves me!!

1.19.08-Waitlisted at Pace by snail mail...this is a disturbing trend!!

1.21.08-Accepted by phone to Western New England with a scholarship...very nice.

1.25.08-Accepted to Roger Williams by snail mail. No Scholarship $$$...same old song.

2.11.08- Its been 2 weeks since any decisions...at least the tracker at Seattle went to decision mailed today...what cruel torture!

2.14.08-Waitlisted at Loyola Chicago...happy freaking valentines's day! My waitlist trend at tier 2's continues. By the way, still nothing from Seattle...I never knew our postal system was so slow!!

2.16.08-Waitlisted at Seattle...like a kiss from your sister...over and over!! My cycle is nearing the end...only 3 schools left...

2.21.08-Withdrew from 10 schools today. I have narrowed my choices to 5 schools which I will visit in mid-March. Roadtrip!!

3.7.08-Finally got off the wagon today...for...another waitlist! Oh well...I'm not really surprised...my numbers predicted that result at Hofstra.

3.11.08-Visited Cleveland Marshall today on my 5 school road trip and was given my acceptance package while there...loved the school and the cost can't be beat...could be the one!!

3.12.08-Visited Baltimore today...will be withdrawing. I got the impression that they could care less if I was there or not...short tour and no Q&A or sales pitch with admissions staff at all...my contact went to lunch before I finished a class sit-in and left a "thank you" message for me!

3.13.08-Visited New England School of Law today...will be withdrawing.

3.14.08-Visited Western New England today...really liked the campus and staff...it's going to be hard to choose...

3.15.08-Attended ASW at Franklin Pierce...loved the school and town but at full price I'm not sure...decisions, decisions!

3.19.08-I have chosen Cleveland Marshall as my law school...mailed my seat deposit and withdrew from my remaining schools---my cycle is complete!

4.1.08-Cleveland has my seat deposit and will have my financial aid package to me soon. Just a side note-I did not withdraw from Denver since it is my first choice due to siblings there and my family wanting to move there. I doubt I'll get the call but you never know...

Tuesday, October 23 2007 at 08:00 PM

TJ has my packet in the mail. I had emailed them to see if I was complete & they responded yes & said I had been admitted in the same email. I will update when I get the packet.

Yeah, they never told me I was complete. When I emailed them yesterday to check if I was complete they responded I had been complete since the middle of November & had been admitted.

Pace Interview
Tuesday, August 21 2007 at 08:00 PM

So, i think the interview went pretty well. Considering how nervous i was, i think i was still able to express my desire to attend Pace and law school in general. I thought the questions were fair and i was made to feel comfortable instead of on the spot. i was told that notifications will probably start in mid Jan. anyway, good luck! i'll be watching...

thanks

How did Phoenix present it's scholarship opportunity? was it in the acceptance letter package or was it a separate letter?

Phoenix

It was in the acceptance letter.

Its actually $10k a year renewable. I changed my reporting amounts to per year instead of total to avoid confusion.

CONGRATULATIONS!! on OCU, keep 'em coming....

Im not sure...
Thursday, December 06 2007 at 07:00 PM

Rutgers in-state tution looks pretty attractive to me! But if another school gave me alot of money then I would really think long and hard. I kind of what to get into Fordham (but it might be unrealistic) so I would be happy with NYLS, st. John's, Brooklyn, cardozo..... cause they are all goods schools and close to home.

Congrats

Congratulations and good luck. I hope you continue to have a positive admission cycle.

You might want to consider throwing out an application to the Florida Coastal School of Law as well.

Waiting....
Tuesday, August 21 2007 at 08:00 PM

Yes! The wait is ABSOLUTELY killing me. Everyday, i do the same thing when i get home: anxiously check my mail as soon as i get home, then i check my e-mails. Still nothing!! Argh!! I guess I'd rather recv nothing than recv a rejection though. & the wait continues...

Denver
Tuesday, May 08 2007 at 08:00 PM

Hi, sorry about Denver, but you still have a chance! I was wondering if you found out from the online status checker??

What?
Tuesday, August 21 2007 at 08:00 PM

I can't believe you were waitlisted @ Pace? It doesn't make sense. Oh well, hopefully being on the waitlist is not the kiss of death & you'll eventually be accepted into the program.

Money
Tuesday, August 21 2007 at 08:00 PM

I know what you mean when you talk about the expense of it all and wondering if we can actually pay for this. It's riskier for us since we're parents too. You don't want to tell you kids "hey, we're eating tv dinners tonight b/c mommy/daddy needs to pay for law school". It's a tough decision, but I know for me that I ABSOLUTELY cannot continue to do what i am doing now and since I have wanted to go to law school since 1990 and I'm beginning to have some breathing room now, I'm going for it. I'm just hoping that i'm not still paying student loans by the time i start collecting social security. security...lol...

denver
Monday, July 23 2007 at 08:00 PM

did you ever receive application completion email from the denver? did they ever say how long they are going to take to review your file. they said mine might take up to 7-8 weeks. um..

Choices...
Tuesday, August 21 2007 at 08:00 PM

Yes!! 5 for 5! When i finished all my apps, my mom said i would get into every school i applied to (only a parent would believe that..lol) but so far, i'm having a perfect season. Since i've been accepted to a couple of schools that i wasn't sure about getting in, my #1 choice has changed w/every acceptance. Of course i would prefer to go to the LEAST expensive school, but i also want to go to a good school. I'm waiting to hear from CUNY and then i'll start making the pros and cons list for each school. You are in the same boat, plenty of choices. Have you narrowed them down yet? or have you decided to wait on law school?

Crunch Time
Tuesday, August 21 2007 at 08:00 PM

Hi! Right now, it's between Rutgers and UB. I just visited UB and i was really impressed with the school. I thought the facilities were great and the people that i met there were genuinely nice and helpful. Of course if i decided to go w/UB, i would have to move upstate (6hrs away), but you know, it's something that i'm considering. Especially since the neighborhood where UB is located is one of the safest, has some of the best schools in the country and it's actually affordable! I'm visiting Rutgers again next month and then i'll weigh the 2. I also want to see if i get into Cuny. I actually thought i had a better chance of getting in there than Rutgers or UB! It's funny how things turn out.

I'm your only fellow waitlister at DU (so far) on this site. Do you think you'll attend there if you're admitted off the waitlist? Take care and best of luck.

...all my eggs...
Sunday, May 14 2006 at 08:00 PM

...are in one basket. Yes, it is my only option at this point. I applied to law school last cycle, as did my significant other. We were both admitted to numerous schools (namely, I was admitted to Penn State, Temple, Quinnipiac, and Hofstra) but her best options did not coincide with mine in terms of location. So, considering I had the option to keep my current job if we were to move to Colorado from Delaware, she decided to attend the University of Colorado, and I decided to apply this cycle to DU, part-time. I was waitlisted at DU last year for the full-time division. So, this has all turned out quite unlucky for me, but I fully assessed the risk associated with my approach beforehand. Thus, I'm not shocked, just disappointed. Well, here's to hoping. From what I saw last year, there was movement on the waitlist, but they apparently offered some open seats in the part-time division to waitlisted full-time applicants who were committed to attending DU if admitted. Anyway, best of luck to you. It appears you have myriad options, some with $$$, and New England is spectacular, especially Boston. Take care!

YUP! I made my decision!
Tuesday, August 21 2007 at 08:00 PM

You know that UB was already looking good after my visit. When I got the news that I got the fellowship, it was like everything was falling into place. Not only did I really like the school and the people that I met there, but I really like the Amherst area, so this is the decision that's going to be best for me. I'm sooo PSYCHED!! Thanks again for the congrats & don't forget to let me know about your visits! :)

Did you request the appnt with the Dean or did they call you to schedule the appnt? I thought maybe I could do some persuasive talking at the open house tonight... I'm so glad to hear that you have such a positive feeling about the school!

Baltimore
Tuesday, August 21 2007 at 08:00 PM

I understand what you went thru w/Baltimore. I had the same impression when I visited NYLS. I went on a tour w/other would be students and the person who gave us the tour spoke 50 miles a minute and rushed us thru the crowded bldg b/c she had other things to do that day. That helped me decide really fast that I was not going to apply to a 40k per yr school that didn't have the time and put forth NO EFFORT into recruiting or even for that matter welcoming prospective students? Good Luck w/the remainder of your visits.

Hey! I noticed some of the things you wrote to other people about CSU. I feel the same way - like everyone there really wants you to do your best! So you'll be moving from Arizona? I'm actually from near Cleveland and never thought I would go back to Ohio, but the CSU staff and students totally sold me. Congrats and see you in the fall!

Hi ! I just finished my 1L year at Cleveland Marshall. I am in love with the school. Everyone will do everything in their power to make sure that you succeed. I\'d be happy to answer any questions you might have. I\'m old too (40...41 in June). I commute from Vermilion, Ohio. We have quite a few non-trads here. Welcome, and Good Luck!
