EXPECT THE UNEXPECTED!

02-16-08: I am going to use LSN to vent. I feel down about this whole process one day, then I am optimistic. I just want to go a top 100 law school. I have mixed feelings about this but, I am going to have faith in my application packet and a higher power. I am going to expect something I would have never seen coming.

02-18-08: Browsing LSN I wish I stayed in the Cal State system, I gave up 3.1 1st year gpa and deans list, to attend an UC school. Damnit !(Jack Bauer voice). I hate living my life in retrospect. What was I thinking?

02-22-08: So I am reading my diversity/hardship and I noticed I used the word subjective instead of objective. damnit..damnit..damnit! One thing after another!

02-28-08: I got into Cleve State LCOP! I am going to law school. Sigh! I am happy. I will go to law school next year. Hopefully this is the start of many!

03-06-08: fudged my numbers a lil, dont want adcoms looking at this. Anyhow, I am waiting to here back from several schools. Hopefully, I will be hearing good news. My hope this cycle is to break into the Tier 2 arena in a metro city. I havent had any mail or emails so I am waiting, and knowing my worth!

03-09-08: Came home to recieve two thin envlopes from Hofsta and Loyola Chicago, rejections. Every school I apply to is a long shot, so I am thankful I have one acceptance so far. If Cleve State had not accepted me, I would be on the floor. But hey, I still got a couple more schools to go.

03-24-08: Rejected from NYLS. Funny thing is I was never notified I was complete. Here is my theory, they currently have no more space in their AAMPLE program so someonw with my numbers are not considered at this point. This is why I recieved a decision without recieving a complete notice. 3 Rejections in a row now.

03-28-08: Small thin env. from TJSL telling me I am deferred.

03-28-08 through 03-30-08: Visited Cleveland Marshall.

04-03-08: I was expecting this, a small thin env. from Denver inside rejection from Denver. I would have loved to practice and lived in Denver. It hurts, but I have to work my ass off as an 1L to transfer to a more reputable school. Also, I have come to the conclusion that UoP (McGeorge) and Southwestern are my #1 picks, I have loved these schools for years, I hope they give me a chance.

Best advice to anyone thinking about law school, take the easiest major, easiest professors, and kick ass on the LSAT. Its all a numbers game. And rightfully so!

04-09-08: Thin env from UoP (McGeorge), my heart melted as I read my rejection letter. I really seen myself attend and contributing to the school. I was crushed! But everything happens for a reason (at least I think so).

04-11-08: Ohman, another rejection from CAl WEstern. I dont understand because there are people with my numbers who got admitted. The only thing they have that i dont have is more than 3 years of Work expereince. My personal statement was well written, I have a nice grade trend after a change of major, and every job or organzation i have become a lead. I know I dont have the greatest stats, but I am actually pissed at this. Plus is another F'ing rejection.

04-26-08:Small thin envelope from Seattle, Rejection!!! I did mention the Alternative Admission program in my essay, but I guess my GPa was not high enough. I always wanted to live in Seattle, but I guees that is defered. Speaking of Deferals, I was admitted to Thomas Jefferson in Sand Diego after being Deferred. Guess they read my Personal Statement and said hey this guy can write although he GPA sucks, and read my LOR's. I am still waiting on my last #1 SOUTHWESTERN!!!

05-01-08: :-) :-) ;-) I got into Southwestern!!!!!!!!!!! I dont have to leave LA. I am actually excited about this. Now to withdraw from TJ and Cleve State. I cant wait to start in the fall. I am so happy, and will def attend.

05-03-08: Small thin env. from Albany, rejection!!! Still sucks although I am 100% with Southwestern.

05-05-08: Small thin Env. from FIU, letting me know I am deferred for another review. Withdrew from Cleveland State today, sending withdrawal to TJ tomorrow.

What would Jack do?
Wednesday, February 13 2008 at 07:00 PM

Jack never gives up my friend! : ) Hope to see you at CSU!

Here's what "italiano" informed me of -
Wednesday, February 13 2008 at 07:00 PM

"I went to CSU's visitation day in like October and they said you must apply to one or the other. If you apply for the SP (and are rejected) and would have otherwise been accepted in the regular PT program, you're out of luck. I skipped out on the SP because it seemed like it was more difficult to get into with people going through special circumstances, not just low numbers."

Thanks

CLE market
Wednesday, February 13 2008 at 07:00 PM

I'm curious why you would want to relocate to CLE from Cali... Graduates from CSU do extremely well in the CLE market. But Ohio is a totally different world than Cali - not telling you anything you don't already know. I wish you were more excited, but you've got plenty of other ops pending!

Don't give up!

Hofstra
Monday, August 20 2007 at 08:00 PM

Its a blessing in disguise man trust me . I live about 15 minutes away from the Hofstra campus and its in a pretty bad area . I only applied because it was close to me........I wouldnt move from anywhere to live here for 3 years !! You have a lot of options still on the board......good luck man.. hopefully ill see you in Albany

Albany
Monday, August 20 2007 at 08:00 PM

Unless you are tops in your class I dont think youre going to get big law in NYC . NYC is super competitive and you have to compete with good local schools ( NYU , Fordham , Columbia , etc ) as well as people from all over the country . Albany is the capitol of NY state so it places really well for state and gov jobs from what I hear . As for the city of Albany , it is about 3 hours upstate ...so i dont know it too well . Im going to go check it out next month....ill let you know whats up

St. Johns
Monday, August 20 2007 at 08:00 PM

No I didnt express interest in it ....however the only reason was that I didnt know it existed haha . St. Johns was a huge reach for me but i figured what the hell . Did you apply for the summer program ?

Cleveland State
Thursday, August 30 2007 at 08:00 PM

I don't know much about CSU because I live on the east coast, but I will be visiting the school on March 29 for Admitted Student Day. Congrats on your acceptance to CSU as well.

thanks
Monday, November 26 2007 at 07:00 PM

I received the acceptance today in a large white envelope with a bunch of papers in it. Good luck!

Cleveland Marshall
Tuesday, October 23 2007 at 08:00 PM

Thanks for the congrats...for me CSU is a good fit because I want to enter criminal law and over 70% of Ohio judges & prosecutors come from CSU and its strong criminal law program. Being a non-trad, I also like the fact that over 20% of the school is non-trad and the average age is 27...a little higher than most law schools. That said, if you're looking for big law I think Case Western is a better choice because of its ranking and connections. I would think that Case is more portable too. I was surprised by the city of Cleveland...not as bad as I thought. If you're looking for NYC or Chicago then you'll be disappointed but I liked the city...purely my opinion of course! I liked the friendly people...everyone I met was polite and helpful....the reverse of what I experienced in Baltimore & Boston. Lastly...the staff I dealt with at CSU was superb...everyone went out of their way to make me feel welcome & answer all my questions. I was there on a regular work day, not an ASW day or anything and they still stopped whatever they were doing to help me. Anyway...hope this helps and good luck!

I agree!!!
Wednesday, December 19 2007 at 07:00 PM

I haven't heard back except for a few rejections. One of my homegirls got into Seattle U today through the special admissions program. I am praying for the same. My status also changed at Denver, so I should have a decision from them in a few days.....I'm praying and hoping that something good happens!! Let's continue to be patient and optomisitc!! Something good will happen for us...

Cleveland State ASD
Thursday, August 30 2007 at 08:00 PM

I am definitely going to the ASD on Saturday. I will only be going for the day and returning that evening. My flight from the east coast was pretty reasonable. You should try to schedule a personal visit. I agree with you about checking out the school before sending the deposit. This is the only acceptance I have received so far, so I will probably send my deposit in next week. I will send you a note on LSN with feedback about the ASD event.

Congratulations, I must say you have been very positive in your ordeal. I need a little advice. How did you study for the LSAT? If you can let me know how you prepared that would be great.

Stay positive!!
Wednesday, December 19 2007 at 07:00 PM

Keep your eyes ont the prize. To many schools it is all about the numbers!! Someone will give you a chance and you will make them proud!

Keep your head up!!
Wednesday, December 19 2007 at 07:00 PM

It will all work out for you. Keep your head up! I feel the same way sometimes but I know it wasnt meant to be...

TJSL
Thursday, April 03 2008 at 08:00 PM

Congrats on TJSL, I was deferred also and am hoping for that acceptance. Good luck on Southwestern!

Any Idea?
Wednesday, December 19 2007 at 07:00 PM

Congrats on the recent acceptance. Any idea on where you will be attending?

Yes!!!
Wednesday, December 19 2007 at 07:00 PM

Southwestern is a great school!! There is a possibility that I will be attending also!! Way to go!! I am so happy for you!!!! Enjoy this and celebrate!

good luck
Saturday, August 18 2007 at 08:00 PM

at southwestern! =D

thanks
Saturday, August 18 2007 at 08:00 PM

yeah, i was getting really down for awhile there, but things are starting to look up. i like miami but i'm still going to wait out on my waitlists. =) i'll keep you updated!

Congrats!
Tuesday, February 05 2008 at 07:00 PM

Nice job with Southwestern. PLEASE dont forget to withdraw from FIU. A deferral means your application is still active and they could pick you and therefore reject someone else. Deferred apps are being reviewed this week, so the sooner you withdraw the better. Good luck at SW.

SWU
Monday, November 26 2007 at 07:00 PM

Cool, another SWU classmate! yes, I\'m moving from NYC to LA in roughly two months, should be pretty interesting. i\'m sure the switch from part-time to full-time will be quick and painless for you. Do you have aim or email? let\'s definitely keep in contact.

hey
Monday, November 26 2007 at 07:00 PM

I\'ve never been to LA, but I am moving there in roughly two months. I have facebook as well. Look me up! i\'m hoping recruitment out of Southwestern will offset the expenses of attending. We definitely should chill when I get there. See you soon future classmate!
