$14K renewable scholarship @ Mercer

01/18/06 - Phone call from Stetson, telling me they were awarding me a full tuition scholarship. Wow!

2/10/06 - Email from Mercer, upping my partial scholarship to a full scholarship, and informing me that I'm a finalist for the Woodruff scholarship. (I wound up being an alternate. Oh well.) I loved it on my visit there - but with my family moving to Atlanta, it would be really hard to make that work. Other than that, I have nothing but good things to say about Mercer.

4/10/06 - Just returned from Emory's admitted students day, where I dropped off my deposit check, so that's where I'm going! I'll be withdrawing from my other schools shortly.

4/20/06 - Waitlisted at UGA. Morons. Didn't they hear that I already got into a much better school? Actually, they probably did, and are yield protecting. Whatever!

4/29/06 - Checked the online status checker at UGA for the first time in a week and discovered I'd been admitted off the wait list. Apparently they've come to their senses in Athens.
Better late than never, guys, but probably too late for you.

Congrats on all the acceptances! I'm applying to Florida and Miami. What can you tell me about those two campuses since I have not visited them yet? Any preferences?

Probably

Yeah, with my WE and everything, I probably had a shot at somewhere like Northwestern, but my family situation essentially limited me to applying to schools in Florida and Georgia. That's where I intend to live once I finish school, so a degree from a good local school is better than a degree from a somewhat-better school somewhere else that won't carry any weight where I intend to live and work.

Are you strongly considering Mercer? I just got accepting and I'm going to visit on Thursday. Also, how long did it take to hear about your scholarship?

Mercer Visit

Mercer's campus is beautiful. All the houses and buildings are old and the area looks historic. The law school is separated from the undergrad campus, and the lady that took me on the tour of the law school said they bring in "good food" from the main campus on Thursdays.. That kinda turned me off.. and the gym is also on the main campus. The nice thing is the free student parking and the fact that the cost of liing is very cheap. I think the school is too quiet for me though. I almost felt like I was talking too loud on my tour, and I think, for me, a bigger school is probably a better choice. It's all in your personality I guess. I also visited GSU and loved it. It's in the middle of Atlanta-more my kind of setting.

yeah
