Looks like 2009 cycle for me. No competition here but I will definitely track how your application cycle goes. Go semi-splitters!

Hi Seamus! Thanks for leaving a comment on my profile. I think our applications will be different enough that there'll be room for us both :) Plus, your LSAT score's much more impressive than mine, so I wouldn't worry if I were you. Best of luck!

  • Some Advice
  • Wednesday, July 25 2007 at 01:03 PM

1. Take UCLA, Washington, and Cornell, and chose 1 of the 3 to keep for application. Drop the other two. Use whatever one you select as a $ leveraging tool as you negotiate with other schools, since they're sure to offer you $$$ 2. You need to add Harvard, Yale, and Stanford to your app pile. Yes, even with a 3.3 and as a white guy. Someone's LSN profile page (I can't rem who) sums it up: 'if you get in everywhere you applied to, you didn't apply to the right schools' You need to have reaches 3. Take your time and write a damn awesome GPA addendum, explaining your low GPA. This could be the most critical hinge point in your application, i.e. it may make the difference between HYSCCN admits or non-admits. Good luck.

i didn't have that much in EC's going for me. no leadership positions, some WE, maybe my strong econ background helped (honors thesis). i think you'll have a great shot. try mentioning that chicago's your #1 choice into your app...it will help you avoid suffering through waitlist.

Competition? Perhaps. The LSN results for people in our GPA/LSAT range last year is certainly confusing. Seems like feast or famine. 8 were accepted and 5 given scholarships and 4 were rejected out-right. Only 2 of the 8 ended up attending, though, which gives me confidence for ED.

Our numbers are really, really familiar! I put you on my watchlist last week! Good luck with Chicago--and all those other schools that I am also applying to--and congrats on Georgetown.

Congrats on Georgetown! Thats my dream school : ) Did you write a low GPA addendum? I have a 3.23 and a 167 with no good excuses for the low gpa. I am debating whether to include one or not. Any thoughts??

  • Tuesday, December 04 2007 at 06:12 AM

Yes it is for real. The reason I am the only one is because they called my dad (he is an alum) to tell him ahead of time so he could be the one to tell me. They said the letter was going out a little later, so I expect there will be more later this week or next week. I just got to find out a little early! :)

Thanks for leaving a note on my profile. I think my PS and LORs definitely helped. I wrote about how I want to go into patent law for pharmaceuticals (my PhD is in Pharmaceutics), and my LORs came from members of my dissertation committee that I've worked with closely for the past five years. Hope you hear good news from Chicago soon! Happy Holidays!

Thanks, seamus. With your Penn admission you should have great options. You should have great chances in the RD pool, if it comes to that.

I had already maxed out the LORs, so I just sent in a new transcript... there is now chance anyway. Figured I'd do the least amount possible. U should make it fine, though... what did you do?

  • Chicago + congrats
  • Thursday, January 24 2008 at 04:09 PM

Thanks for the congrats... great job on your acceptances so far! On Chicago... I sent in a new transcript to LSAC (so they'll get it) and I went to Chicago for an interview. @ the interview they seemed to expect that I would update my grades. I don't think there is much danger doing all three options.

  • Monday, February 11 2008 at 06:30 PM

Hi, I'm not sure why I was deferred... but I only wrote one optional essay (why Michigan). If I remember correctly, I could have picked two. Also, I didn't put much time into my essay.

Hey man, looks like we've got some similar New York results going. I'd honestly rather have NYU send me a flat-out rejection tomorrow than waitlist or defer me just so I have a firm answer to start basing my final decisions on. Sorry to hear about the UChicago ED deferral, but at least you've got Penn to fall back on. Is there any school that you're leaning towards right now, or is it UChicago all the way if they come through?
