Scholarship information based on merit, given on a total of 3 years.

10/25 - Apps done and sent.

11/20 - UMich's cute little personal note got me. Chucked out $12 for another LSDAS report.

11/21 - Ok, a little pissed because Cornell said that I missed the early app deadline and that I was deferred to regular admissions. I'm guessing this will be the case for Columbia too, since they had the same deadline. Mostly annoyed because I blame one of the LSDAS reports for being held up by an institution that actually had nothing to do with my undergrad grades. Sadly, early decision by Columbia will probably also not work out.

11/26 - There are huge overlaying delays on Duke's status check online. They said the application was completed on 11/20, but the change on the online status was only showed today.

Also, Columbia sent a mail saying that I was still considered as ED, even though the app file was not officially declared "completed" until 11/20. Relief.

11/27 Duke acceptance came via email. I love how straightforward they are. "You're in!"

11/28 Weirdness with Cornell's status check. First they said I didn't make the early action cycle, and today they said I am complete as an early action applicant... ok whatever you say guys.

12/03 Georgetown's online status checker says "Decision." Now it's time to wait for that paper. God I hate snail mail.

Still haven't received Duke's package. =( I want to see that comic book everyone's been talking about!

12/04 Duke's beautiful, enormous, blue folder came today. Stuffed unceremoniously in my apartment's tiny mailbox.

12/08 Georgetown sent a nice happy holidays card today. I think I might have gotten in, because the tone says they are looking forward to "welcoming to their community" and it came from the office of enrollment instead of admissions... but that might just be wishful thinking. If I don't get in, I'm going to feed the card to a dog.

12/10 Columbia's depressingly small, thin cream envelope came in the mail looking like a sickly child today. Told me blah blah blah about really high numbers this year and that I will hear from them again in March. I guess this was the best of realistic scenarios considering that being bound without a chance to compare financial packages will have killed me. Good thing is, now I actually get to see what the other schools say.

12/12 Georgetown's letter came in an invitation-sized cream envelope. I feel like I'm invited to a party with some really good champagne.

12/14 NYU went complete. That took a LONG time.

12/19 Cornell sent an email of acceptance. The status checker, however, does not indicate "decision."

1/8 Michigan's checker went to decision. I guess I'll only be able to check the mail next week. -_- So glad I have found a way to die slowly.

1/14 Michigan's blue folder came in the mail today.

2/7/08 Chicago phone call from Ann Perry (sp?) today. Missed it the first time. Called back. Left message. Her call back 5 minutes later. "I have some good news for you..." Music to my ears.

4/4/08 Columbia's reserve letter comes in. Small envelope. I'm tired of this process.

4/17/08 Stanford rejection came in the mail.

5/1/08 Too many things are already set for me at Duke. Currently planning to head to NC in mid-July, unless scholarship appeal for Chicago comes through.

5/19/08 So.... Chicago is offering a scholarship after I sent them a letter describing a difficult financial situation.

5/23/08 Going to UChicago. Wrote to Duke for withdrawal, a little sad about that. Really excited for Chicago though.

What a long, exhausting cycle. Had a feeling it was going to be prolonged, but not by THIS much.

Good luck to everyone else for the future cycles!

Duke Tracker

I never bothered with the tracker. I never got an e-mail about it, and eventually I went to it and tried to "Forget my password" but never heard anything about it. A couple days later I got the acceptance e-mail from B. Hoye so I didn't bother with it from then on. Basically, I would just sit tight for the week after Thanksgiving -- since you applied priority track it is highly likely you'll get an acceptance that week.

Congrats!

On Georgetown!

hi!
Tuesday, December 11 2007 at 07:00 PM

we have similar numbers too...and in my opinion our 3.7's are pretty impressive for being science majors :) i don't really know what my top choice is YET, but right now i'm loving NYU/Mich/UVA the most I think. just kind of nervous about how my big gap in LSAT scores will be viewed. good luck and don't worry about columbia...i'm sure it will all work out in the end and not being tied down will probably work to your benefit.

thanks! Looks like we have similar preferences- (Columbia ED and Gtown) and similar outcomes. I think the above poster is right-- it is a relief knowing that we can now shop for the best scholarship/fin aid options. Good luck with the rest of your apps and maybe we will be classmates at gtown!

Thanks!

Your major is really cool too. Those Public Discourse classes are going to help you a lot in school.

my ps
Monday, May 21 2007 at 08:00 PM

My PS talked about my experience in the management of our college radio station. It also stressed how I'd grown personally during my college career and had come to take on responsibility. The idea was to highlight my upward UG trend, both gpa and otherwise. Good luck with your apps, maybe I'll see you in Chicago next fall!

Congrats!

on all the acceptances thus far! you must be thrilled!

Is that top 10% of your major(s)?
Saturday, June 30 2007 at 08:00 PM

I didn\'t think I was for for the school overall, and I had a higher GPA. Of course, if you graduated a while ago, that may have been before grade inflation.
