haven't talked to a law school advisor, but i am fairly confident that few other swarthmore grads in general, let alone those applying for further degrees, had as poor GPAs as I did. My interests in the law are much more inclined towards the philosophical questions the law seeks to tackle and I have been finding that only the top tier schools seem to pay much attention to this subject. Or at least that's what people have been telling me anecdotally. I don't count my chances of acceptance at any of these schools to be particularly great, but that said, I would definitely prefer to pursue my interest in the legal field from a different angle (MA to PhD perhaps) than go to a school that was more geared towards preparing one in the more pedestrian aspects of the law. If you have any advice about other programs, please let me know. My list is a combo of schools I particularly liked and fee waivers I received.

Don't forget, as a Native American he will have a fantastic advantage. It is one of the most URM in law. That coupled with his interesting work experience and awesome LSAT, should be more than enough for at least one of these schools. Yea I agree with LegalLatin...the OP is in great shape, especially for Northwestern who loves WE.

Don't despair. Cornell's adcom thinks you merit a good look. They could have rejected you outright, but they find your application compelling. My prediction is that they will admit you, but not until some time later in the admissions cycle. In the meantime, stay posiive. You will definitely be going to law school next fall. Count on it!

i sent in a letter along with my card to stay on their waitlist. we'll see. i would only go there if they gave me some money, which seems exceptionally unlikely. just a terrible cycle. i know my GPA was as low as it gets, but i've been out of school for a while and doesn't anyone need an LSAT median boost?! i guess there's still NU and UCLA, but things are looking bleak.

hey, t hanks for the input. I have written them 2 letters to date and am writing a 3rd right now. I have expressed that they are my absolute top choice and, i think, done a good job of backing that up. i didn't bring my diversity up in this last letter i am writing (should i?), but i did send a diversity statement in with my original app. any advice is helpful. i would LOVE to be at NU.

not sure what i might do differently in my marketing scheme (sent in an A paper btw, thanks NU1L), but i am certainly open to advice. i think my GPA was just *so* low that there were enough people with 2.7/2.8 and high LSATs that they didn't need to dent their GPA percentiles even more by accepting me. my last hope is NU (UVA was non-priority out of state waitlist), whose program i actually preferred to some higher ranked schools. i also didn't really apply to schools in the 20-50 range but i'm not sure i would in a new cycle either. any advice on how to market myself better? i am fairly competent writer and think that my essays, of which i always wrote the maximum number for each school, were effective and made me stood out.
