Extra Curricular Information

I decided to go to Harvard, which has always been my first choice.

I withdrew from Penn, Duke, and Georgetown before I received any information about merit scholarships.

Strong ECs/WE/softs. I sent a diversity statement to every school to which I applied. I took the LSAT twice, and received the same score both times.

GPA is actually 4.03. I couldn't be seen on the graphs, so I altered it.

For what it's worth, there was a typo in my resume (for everywhere but Yale).

PM me with any questions.

Additional info & updates

4/23/11 -- Withdrew from Stanford.

4/22/11 -- Received waitlist letter from Stanford.

4/20/11 -- "Decision Letter Sent" at Stanford. I don't care enough to call to find out if it's a waitlist or rejection. I'll update when I find out. I never sent a LOCI.

4/14/11-- Reserve at Columbia. Didn't send a LOCI and couldn't care less. Withdrew immediately.

4/13/11-- Just sent in my Harvard deposit! Class of 2014!

4/8/11-- Rejected at Yale. Not surprised and quite happy. HLS has always been my first choice, and now there's no "what if?" situation.

4/6/11-- Withdrew from NYU today. Unless I get into Stanford or Yale, I will definitely be attending Harvard this fall.

3/8/11-- Went to the Harvard ASW last weekend. . . I was generally pleasantly surprised. I also withdrew from Chicago and Penn today (didn't yet receive a merit aid offer from Penn, but even a full ride wouldn't sway me).

2/24/11-- Withdrew my Duke application, before filling out the scholarship forms. Don't know if I would have gotten money or not.

2/18/11-- Just got email from Chicago awarding me a $5,000/year merit scholarship for three years. Shocked to get any money, but not enough to sway me from Harvard.

2/15/11-- Second under review update at Duke... later in the day, got the acceptance email.

2/2/11-- Held at Columbia. Whatever. Harvard > Columbia anyways.

1/27/11-- Applied to Yale! Don't really want to go, most likely a huge waste of time, but I just want to know....

1/21/11-- Definitely applying to Yale, though it's a HUGE longshot. Hoping what they say about not really having rolling admissions is true. . . .

1/14/11-- In at Penn. Missed the call and called back just as an Assistant Dean was leaving a message. He said they had just made my decision.

1/10/11-- In at Chicago. Missed the call from Ann Perry saying she had an "update" on my application and that I'd get an email about it by the end of the day. She also said I could call with any questions. I decided not to call, but know I'm in. UPDATE: Got the email confirming admission at around 7pm.

1/7/11-- Third update to my UR date at Chicago.

1/5/10-- Got my second Under Committee Review update at Penn. First one was 12/22/10.

12/23/10-- Received email confirmation of my withdrawal from Georgetown. Hopefully this helps someone out there on LSN! I'm going to stay in everywhere else for now, just in case. Also--- just got the package from Harvard. It contains a booklet, some paperwork, bumper stickers, and even has a handwritten note on the letter.

12/22/10-- Finally under committee review at Penn. Also just noticed that my Chicago status checker updated to UR 12/20 from UR 12/1. Withdrew from Georgetown.

12/20/10-- JR2!!!!!!! IN AT HARVARD!!!! I was on the West Coast when I heard from Josh Rubenstein... a nice 6:30am wake-up call.

12/16/10-- Now the really intense waiting begins...

12/15/10-- JR1. Went well, I think. Harvard is my first choice school, so I'm hoping for the best.

12/13/10-- JR1 EMAIL!!!! I am in shock and am so excited.

12/11/10-- Received my Georgetown acceptance letter, dated 12/6/10. Nice note from the dean. . . not generic, as other people have complained.

12/9/10-- People are starting to receive the NYU admission letters! Everyone so far is in, so this MUST be good news! I'm going home at lunch to grab my mail and just make sure. . . . annnddd it's official! IN AT NYU. Purple envelope postmarked 12/8/10, and it is signed in purple ink!

12/8/10-- Still waiting on that NYU letter. . . was able to get my Georgetown info for the admitted students site, so hopefully that means I'm in. Still no letter though. And Penn, please put me under review!

12/6/10-- Decision letter sent at NYU! Thinking I got in. . . can't wait to find out for sure.

12/2/10-- Missed the update-- under review at Chicago since 12/1/10.

12/1/10-- Status checker 11/15-->11/18-->12/1 complete dates at Georgetown. Hopefully some good news coming soon!

11/23/10-- Under review at NYU!

11/18/10-- just got the official Harvard complete email. I've been under review for awhile though, so I think I've been complete a few weeks. Georgetown status checker changed to Complete 11/15-->11/18.

11/15/10-- Complete at Georgetown. File submitted for review at Stanford!

11/10/10-- Got Georgetown application received email.

11/9/10-- Got my NYU application received email.

11/8/10-- under review at Duke!. . . and just checked the Harvard status checker, and I'm under review (since last Friday!)!

11/2/10-- apparently NYU is bad about sending out application received emails. . . . not worried. And. . . all applications are in! Here's to a (hopefully) good cycle!

Hey, almost numbers twins. Good luck with your cycle, I'm procrastinating big time on my personal statements.

I've coordinated my application cycle with my significant other of 5+ years, who is applying to physical therapy school, and we'll make a joint decision once acceptances are in. Limits my choices, but it's worth it to me.

Don't know! Am terminally indecisive, so I'll probably wait to see what the ASWs are like.

congrats on harvard!

Hey i really appreciate your confidence in me haha...but i feel like to get into HYS, you need something really really special (something you have obviously..congrats on Harvard!) and I don't really have anything that'll make me stand out from the crowd unfortunately. But a quick question: how did you withdraw from Georgetown? Did you just send them an email or call the admissions office?

Monday, November 15 2010 at 07:00 PM

I'm certainly waiting on Yale, but I won't be close to a final decision until mid-March, for reasons I'll be happy to explain later! What about you? Is Harvard basically the end of the cycle?

thanks for the note. i'd still love to be in your shoes right now, though. you've got it made, and, in the end, that's what matters.

Monday, September 13 2010 at 08:00 PM

Thank you, congratulations yourself. You seem to have plenty of options, I'm sure you'll make a good call.

Honestly, for a few different reasons (academic, cultura), I couldn't imagine myself being happy/fulfilled at H. Congrats to you, though, and hope you enjoy!

Thanks. It wasn't at all unexpected despite the GPA. Congrats your very impressive cycle.

Ha, not exactly perfect. I've gotten held at 3 different places in the past couple weeks so we'll see. But it's all basically moot anyway! Thanks for the congrats! Same to you especially on Harvard!

I will likely attend. I currently live in the area, so that is a big consideration. Although having pure P/F grades first semester would be awesome, I think I will like the bigger class sizes at Harvard better.

Wednesday, January 05 2011 at 07:00 PM

Yes, Vandy is definitely my first choice... I want to stay in the southeast, and I am hoping for some money. It is also close to my significant other. I figured I would apply now and see what happened. I don't think it will hurt me at my top choices. Also, you must have some amazing softs for Harvard with our numbers. Congrats on that!

Thanks so much! I am absolutely over-the-moon thrilled about Chi! Good luck on the rest of your decisions, but obviously a huge congrats on HLS! :)

Thanks!

Congrats to you as well! I have not made a decision yet...I'm waiting to hear from one more school and to see some financial aid options;)

Thanks!
