Extra Curricular Information

Military, Volunteer work in various countries, and a master in human relations. Worked for JAG in the military so I've worked on court cases on three different continents. I was deployed so I my cycle started a little later than most.

A side note I'd say a lot of people on here lie about everything. Nothing on my profile is fake. I'm not sure if it's just LSN or TLS students who are these crazy paranoid people but I'm not one of them. Schools know that good students apply to more than one university. In fact if you don't they might think of you as an idiot. I don't see the purpose of lying but hey to each it's own.

Additional info & updates

Joined the Army before I went to school. So I'll be above the average age when law school starts. I also have a masters degree.

1/6 Got my first acceptance (Washington and Lee via status checker then email) top thirty here I am.

1/10 just received a priority invite to apply from Duke. Turned the app in the same day I got the invite. Never really thought about Duke but a quick decision from a great law school can change my mind.

1/11 Don't know whats going on. Maybe schools are just trying to get their rejection numbers up but Penn and Virginia just sent me fee waivers. Had no plan to apply to either but hey it's free (ok it's actually 24 dollars but you know what I mean).

1/18 Got a full ride at Washington and Lee via snail mail.

1/14-18 I got into a fewer of the lower ranked schools that I applied to (Pitt, Miami, and Temple) I basically applied because they gave me fee waivers but it is still nice to get acceptance emails :). I haven't really thought about them too much. I'll be in Miami on Friday so I might just stop by to check it out.

1/19 Emailed Michigan since I still haven't got a status checker email yet. They said I should have it in the next 2 days. C'mon on Michigan you're one of my top choices, show me a little love.

2/1/2011 I just returned from Puerto Rico and I didn't check my status checkers at all the whole time or my email account that my decisions go to. I didn't think about law school for 11 glorious days so now back to reality. I have a lot to report those last 11 days have been super busy. I'm actually at the airport in Miami now writing this so I'll fill you guys in on the details like cash and dates when i get back to Chicago. With the way the snow is coming down there I'm not sure if I want to get back.

But I came back and the first thing I saw was a congrats from Kansas followed by one from Hastings so at least I got Cali then I saw my duke priority track my first t-14 decision...... and waitlisted I was crushed. then I look on here and see an idiot who said I wasn't going to get into a t-14 school and I was thinking he was right. That was followed up by an Iowa acceptance and a Georgia acceptance. Two very good regional schools and I was happy to be in the mid 20's area. But then things got interesting. There was a Freshlaw invite. Hmmm. I clicked on it it was a congrats from the University of Texas!!!! Now we're talking . My first top 15 acceptance. I'm not going to lie I was getting worried for a little bit. But the email reading wasn't finished I had one more to click on. It said UC Berkeley and before I could read anything else I saw the words congratulation. Top 10 finally :D. Of all the top ten (sans the holy trinity) Berkely was my top choice. Still have to check out cash from other schools but I'm really feeling Berkeley can't wait for ASW. Hmmm still snowing in Chicago. Berkeley seems even better :).

Also got in to Bama. and I'm complete at Harvard. I threw in a late hail mary app. ( My last one for sure).

2/3 Got into UNC today via status checker NU is supposed to be having another rounds of acceptances today. Keep your fingers crossed for the hometown kid. On a side note I actually showed up 2 minutes late for my NU interview. I could have sworn my interview was at 1130 but it was actually at 1115 but the military always tells you be 10 minutes early so I stroll in at 1117 and the guy told me that I was running late, hopefully it didn't impact me that bad.

2/4 Finally made it to my moms house and I had a ton of admit packages waiting for me. Texas, Berkeley (nice books), Alabama (a ton of stuff and a letter explaining my full ride), Georgia (nice bumper sticker and 78000), also acceptance to Pepperdine (if it was higher in the ranking this would be a serious choice).

2/5 picked up mail from moms house again 84,000 at Texas. Thanks Longhorns can't wait for ASW.

2/6 Started the process of withdrawing hopefully I can free up some of the scholarship money for others!

2/7 ok so it's snowing in Chicago again but I got an email that made me a little warmer. A Chancellors Scholarship invite from UNC. UNC is still an option for me. It'll be hard to turn down Berkeley or some other choices but I think I'm going to compete for this scholarship and then see all my choices and weigh everything from prestige, COA, location and where I'd be happy at.... looks like I'll have some thinking to do. Also finally got my status checker from UVA apparently they didn't send it or it was a mix up but the good thing is I didn't check it all over the last month and today I'm already file complete pending review/decision 2/3

2/8 Ok so I'm in this board meeting about something rather mundane but I have my phone silent. I look down and see I missed a call from a wierd area code, no big deal. Then I check my email on the phone and see a message from the Director of Admission at UVA asking me to call him as soon as possible. hmmm very interesting. I waited for like an hour and then I had to call him back.... In at UVA with 90,000. That is un "wait for it" believable. I'm so freaking psyched I have some serious thinking to do. But first I have to withdraw from Washington and Lee (my first acceptance), and Georgia (sorry no bulldog for me). Also before they render a decision I'm going to withdraw from UC Davis and Fordham. It's a four horse race so far. Lets see who else can get in on the action. I need more acceptances.

2/10 Waitlisted at Chicago. Not really sad at all. I didn't want to go to Chicago but if accepted I probably couldn't turn it down. So in reality they made a decision for me that I was too afraid to make myself. This prestige thing is really getting to me. It makes me feel like I have to go to the highest rated school but I think I have to be happy for the next three years, so I want a mix a great school where I'll be happy studying. I just didn't get that vibe from Chicago even though it's my hometown and I live close to the school. I also decided to call it at Fordham. I've been waiting for them to make up their mind but the truth is I don't want to go there esp when I have better offers on the table.

2/11 excited got my first 170 on a practice exam the day before I take the LSAT. I hope it goes good guys. Will update tomorrow.

2/13 LSAT day. I retook mainly for scholarship negotiation, Harvard and myself. I always felt I could have done better than that 165. The test went ok. I normally sweep the games but I know I didn't this time. The last test was crazy and I couldn't really crack it. I know I got three of the questions right but the other three.... I'm semi-confident about one of them but to be honest the other 2 were educated guesses at best. I just eliminated some of the choices but I'm guessing I probably got those two wrong. That actually scares me a bit. Even if I improve I don't think I'll be getting that 170 I was shooting for.

2/25 It's been a while since I updated this thing. Let me see what has changed. I got into Northwestern today and will be sending in my withdrawal tomorrow. Northwestern just turned me off through this whole cycle. It looks like I won't be staying in Chicago. Also I shot an App to Yale, I figured y not. I didn't put it up because I'm superstitious. Yale and Harvard are not going up until I find out a decision. Whatever the outcome I'll post it. By this time next week I should know my new LSAT score. I can't wait. I really hope I did better. I just can't call it. Half the time I think I got a 160 the other half I think I got a 170. so we will see. I also had my SEO interview today! I killed it. It was a great interview if anybody needs any info just message me. Well guys I'm going to actually put some work into my thesis (I so just want my masters degree over with). I have a nice bottle of Gran Patron Platinum waiting for me when I finish. To all you tequila drinkers out there if you get a chance (and have an extra 2 hundred dollars) I highly recommend it.

3/3 Ok bad day and good day. The results of the LSAT came back yesterday earlier than anyone thought. I was out eating with friends and just happened to check my email and saw one from LSAC. My score was a very, very, disappointing 169. I should have had a 170, that last game killed me I hardly ever get anything wrong on games and I know I at least got 3 wrong on the last game alone. But it's over and I have to move on. On the good side I have my JR1 today. I can't believe it I just submitted on the 1st of February. I'm excited, hopefully everything goes well.

3/4 Just got some great news, I got an email from Berkeley saying I was awarded 100,000, it is 34 the first year 33 the other two years. I just have to stay in good academic standing. It also said that they make summer funding available to students working in public interest. Berkeley looks so much better now :). I have to decide by April 15th. Got some thinking to do.

3/5 Great news guys I got my second SEO interview. I'm that much closer to an Internship with a V20 firm, before I even start law school.

3/9 Got more great news! I have my JR1 in a couple of hours but I just found out I got the SEO internship!!!! This is just amazing. Thinking back on how bad my cycle started... I was actually close to withdrawing this cycle and maybe just getting a PH.d because I didn't think I'd get into any good schools after being waitlisted at UCLA and Duke and now I have multiple top 10 acceptances and a possible Harvard acceptance, plus great scholarship money! I want to thank all the people on TLS and LSN who told me to keep my head up when I was freaking out. I hope the community is as good as this in law school. Oh and even better news I picked up the new Lupe Fiasco CD (Lasers) it's amazing.

3/14 Just got into Harvard!!! Will be withdrawing form many more schools soon.

3/18 Just got the call in at Penn. I will probably be withdrawing shortly. I just want to make sure Harvard is the place for me. It's my top choice. I have to be in NY next week anyway so I'm going to stop by for a visit just to solidify things.

3/21 Can't believe it I got into YALE!!!! #1 law school in the country! I'll be in New York in a couple of days and will definitely make the trip up to New Haven to see the school. It'll be hard to Turn down Harvard but I have to check out Yale to be sure.

3/30 So after checking out Yale I figured it wasn't for me. It's a great school and it is truly amazing but for my career goals Harvard is the best place for me. Hopefully I opened up a spot for someone deserving.

4/3 Heading to Germany. I can't wait to get there. I finished my thesis and I'm just waiting to graduate with my masters and start my internship. I can't wait to get to Boston.

4/8 The Harvard name rocks. I just dropped the "I'm a Harvard law student line." You'd be surprised how many find that cool even in Europe. I hope I didn't sound too douchey. lol.

4/11 On my way home back to the US sad to leave Europe but I'll be back soon. I plan on traveling a lot before law school. Got a really good scholarship to Harvard so I'm going to use some of the money I had saved up to see some of the countries I haven't seen yet. China, Korea, and Australia I'm looking at you.

4/24 A beautiful day here in Chicago. Hopefully everybody's cycle is wrapping up. I've decided where I'm going, now comes the hard part.... It seems like the stressing never stops. First it was the LSAT, then the applications, then the decisions, now we actually have do great in school. I know the class of 2014 is going to do great!

Good to hear from a fellow vet. Yeah, it's pretty obvious I'm Army, huh? I'll commission JAG after school, but stay in the Reserves, NOT AC! I see you applied to UA- it's an awesome school if you want to come down south.

Thursday, November 11 2010 at 07:00 PM

Thanks for the well wishes! I'll probably withdraw from UCLA and BU quite soon actually. Best of luck with your cycle!!

Tuesday, September 07 2010 at 08:00 PM

Hey, thanks for the kind words. I hope the admission committees really do look past the numbers and see my unique life story and start sending those acceptances! Congrats on W&L, I see a positive end to your cycle my friend. Good luck!

Friday, October 29 2010 at 08:00 PM

Based on your numbers and extracurriculars, I don't think you should have much of a problem, man. Thanks for the congrats, and good luck!

Good luck on the rest of your cycle and thank you for your service! Very impressive softs you've got there...

Wednesday, July 21 2010 at 08:00 PM

Same to you and good luck on the rest of your cycle. Indiana's money is definitely enticing, I'm just not entirely sure about going there. UNC would be very nice, though, so I'm definitely not making any final decisions as of just yet.

Thanks!
Tuesday, June 22 2010 at 08:00 PM

And good luck on the rest of your cycle as well, although it doesn't look like you'll need it. The people at Chicago were great; I'm sure we'll be at the same ASW in the future!

Thanks...

Thanks and congrats on W&L as well, glad I didn't end up at tjsl, what school is your first choice?

Sunday, January 31 2010 at 07:00 PM

I'm sure you will get into those schools with your numbers! I'm hoping to go to the one there having in March I wanted to go in Feb but since I'm on the west coast it would have been hard, I'm hearing good things about the school so I'm excited haha, congrats on the full ride as well!

Hey, Got an offer for the Dean's Scholarship. 20k a year (with stipulations), hope that answers your question!

Wednesday, March 17 2010 at 08:00 PM

Thx for your comment... G'Town & UVA are stinkers anyway. ;-) Congrats on your W&L $$!

Hey, I came across your profile. Your cycle perplexes me a bit. Even though your apps were sent late, your numbers put you in Harvard territory, and I'm not to sure why you've yet to hear good news from some higher ranked schools. At any rate, I'm sure you have great acceptances to come. So to my question, as the title of the comment denotes: what prompted the mini-spiel about LSN and TLS "liars?" Granted, I agree, but what was that musing in reference to?

Congrats!!
Saturday, August 28 2010 at 08:00 PM

Congrats on your acceptances thus far! No, I never applied to NYU. After I was accepted to my 1st choice (Georgetown), I decided to stop the process there. Good luck for the rest of your process!

Wednesday, January 12 2011 at 07:00 PM

*Points to above comments and laughs! Congrats on the t-14!

Wednesday, August 11 2010 at 08:00 PM

Berkeley?! Congrats!!! I'm happy to see that things are going so well for you!

Monday, November 01 2010 at 08:00 PM

Congrats on Berkeley!

Congratulations
Saturday, January 22 2011 at 07:00 PM

Wow! I didn't know that there were blatantly rude people on LSN. (W&l) Congratulations on all of you recent acceptances!!! Maybe I should take an eleven day vacation and see what my business email has in store for me...

CONGRATS!
Saturday, December 11 2010 at 07:00 PM

Congrats on UGA, UT & Berkeley! Don't worry about the haters, you are going to end up at a fastastic school :) Good luck with the rest of your apps!!!

Thanks!
Wednesday, September 15 2010 at 08:00 PM

Congratulations to you, too - on Texas and everywhere else. Looks like you're having an awesome cycle. Also looks like you totally deserve it. Thanks for your service, and good luck!

Friday, July 30 2010 at 08:00 PM

If I had a competitive LSAT score, I definitely would have. It's just not really worth it to go through the whole endorsement process when you have a VERY small chance of getting in.. Plus, I go to a rival state school.:)

Wednesday, September 15 2010 at 08:00 PM

Right now I'm leaning hard toward Texas. It's the best school I'm going to get into and a good deal to boot. Unfortunately, I'm going to miss ASW - I'm going to Chicago for reasons completely unrelated to law school. But I went to UT for undergrad and I have a tour and class visit scheduled later this month, so hopefully I'll know everything I need to know to make a good decision. Do you really think you could turn down Berkeley?

Saturday, December 11 2010 at 07:00 PM

Congrats on UNC! That is awesome!!!! And per twitter NU is sending out jd decisions today, not sure if you are close to your 8 weeks but i hope you get good news from them soon! You've got a hard decision ahead of you but the bright side is they are all amazing options.

Monday, December 29 2008 at 07:00 PM

Congrats on Berkeley! See ya at ASW :) And good luck at Harvard!

Wednesday, December 08 2010 at 07:00 PM

Wow congrats on the awesome cycle! At best I'm hoping for a hold at Northwestern haha but have fun there next year... your stats are AMAZING!!! I'm originally from Chicago so me and snow are likethis

Sunday, January 16 2011 at 07:00 PM

Congrats on all the acceptances and thanks for the kind words!! Your numbers and mine are almost identical, but I think your softs are a lot stronger (not to mention the masters). Keepin' my fingers crossed for one of my t-14 choices, but I would be very happy with Emory, if the money were right!

Saturday, December 11 2010 at 07:00 PM

I don't know about UNC (complete and ready for review since 11/23, applied 11/1) & UGA (under review since after thanksgiving) LOL. But, hopefully hopefully at NU's - maybe this is your week :) Congrats on the scholarships!!!

Saturday, September 18 2010 at 08:00 PM

Thanks. You're having quite the cycle. Way to go on some of the top schools...looks like you're going to have a number of good options. Good luck. Good luck on the upcoming decisions.

Thanks! We'll see....

Thanks and Congrats!
Thursday, December 09 2010 at 07:00 PM

Hey thanks a lot man! You set on Berkeley? (that UVA money looks niiice though). You got an awesome story it looks like, so it's easy to see how they'd admit you. And thanks for serving our country too :)

Friday, January 21 2011 at 07:00 PM

thanks man! UVA (because of the money) and Penn (because I visited and liked the school a lot) are my two top choices. Can't wait to visit Berkeley in April. I am nowhere near making a final decision.

Just curious, how did UGA break down that scholarship? If they threw that kind of money at me, I'd probably take it and run; I'd love to stay that close to home!

Thanks! What happened with Harvard?? was pulling for you and noticed its not on your list anymore! good luck! thanks for your service btw!

thanks!

thanks for the advice! you're right...for only $12, it's hard not to apply. depaul isn't really on my radar, it was just an ultimate, extreme safety (and honestly, the scholarships i have at Alabama & Georgia would still leave me with less debt! ha). what are you thinking with all those awesome acceptances of yours?

Monday, November 15 2010 at 07:00 PM

what is SEO? I'm not familiar. UVAs WL was shocking to me as well. Interviewing for AnBryce though. That's exciting. I hope you get in!!

Wednesday, January 12 2011 at 07:00 PM

Glad you applied to Yale and Harvard! And good luck on your new LSAT score. Though you have to try Heradura silver if you get the chance.

Why did I call you a joke? Really you don't know? Well when you write stuff like: "White people feel guilty for crimes committed generations ago." as to why black people get into top law schools or "liberals want your race to succeed without actually doing the work it takes to succeed." That makes me look at you as a joke. I would try to explain the effects of racism on socio-economic factors, or the fact that the government released studies that still say that there is obvious discrimination in the housing market, or how if you have a black "sounding name" you have a less chance for a call back at a job. Or maybe I can explain to you how it feels to be viewed as a criminal in places even though you have a masters degree and served your country in war. But people like you will never change and black people will always be lazy and stupid in your eyes. So to prevent a ton of back and forth that leads to nothing I just summarized my thoughts. You're a joke.

*Walks over and gives uncOmmOn1 a pint of Guinness. Eh, don't let that jerk jbleen1 piss in your cheerios too much. He just doesn't know any black folk. If he had he wouldn't have said what he did. He's ignorant. Secondly, as much as you think a 167 is a disappointment it's still an improvement over your previous 165. It still can only help out right now. I'm predicting an acceptance at Penn soon. Perhaps some of the schools will start bumping up your scholarship money as a result of your improvement.

Please don't erase the comments left by people who are hatin'. It's hilarious and leaves an aura of shame for the poster that is so, so necessary. My cycle has not been nearly as good as yours. (Damn you, lackluster GPA!). Congrats on gettin' monies @ Berkeley. I'm hoping they throw me a nickel or two. (I'm serious--I'd literally be very surprised if I received ten cents from them). I have two sets of top choices -- the "if-money-was-not-a-concern" top choices, and the "how-to-not-end-up-saddled-with-miserable-debt" top choices. I'm sure you can guess what those are. Congrats, again, and feel free to drop me a line soon!

Monday, November 15 2010 at 07:00 PM

not sure whether or not i will be going to berkeley. I might since my family is in CA and i'd like to see them!

Cheers!!!!
Saturday, December 11 2010 at 07:00 PM

Nah I think you're golden! Super congrats on Berkeley's sweet scholly! Looks like you've narrowed it down quite a bit. Hoping you get into Yale & Harvard. Ill be creeping on here for updates! lol

Wednesday, December 15 2010 at 07:00 PM

I think you will be fine!! I'm just paranoid b/c I feel with my type of score, i may be easily identifiable!! congrats on your cycle so far!! the minute i privatized my page, some awesome scholarship offers started pouring in. so idk!

re: Congrats

Thanks for your post. I definitely feel very blessed with the outcomes of my cycle thus far. Speaking of blessings, that $100K at Berkeley is awesome, congrats man. In light of your stats and great softs, a NYU acceptance is definitely headed your way, but it seems like you might have bigger things to worry about with Mr. Rubenstein dialing you up. Good luck with the JR1 and the conclusion of your cycle.

Congrats...
Saturday, October 30 2010 at 08:00 PM

my dude. That Berkley 100k is well worth that patron. Could you shoot me a message about the entire SEO process? I literally applied at the deadline. I had no idea about it before. How'd the interview go? Big things you're doing though. Big things.

Wednesday, August 11 2010 at 08:00 PM

Awesome! Keep rocking it!

Sunday, January 30 2011 at 07:00 PM

amazing cycle man. Good luck and if I were in your shoes, I don't know if I'd be able to turn down Cal.

Wednesday, July 21 2010 at 08:00 PM

Thanks and same to you too...that Berkeley offer is amazing. I poured myself into a 4 page PS for them and they didn't even give me the time of day due to my GPA. I'm glad to you got in and got such a great offer. That coupled with the GI Bill...I would jump on it personally.

Congrats!
Friday, July 02 2010 at 08:00 PM

On the JR1, I hope you get into Harvard!!!

Congrats on Harvard!!

Yeah, I'll most likely be there. I know how I'll be able to spot you -- you'll be the one with the smug "ask-me-what-schools-i'm-considering-so-I-can-drop-the-H-bomb" look on his face. ;) Congrats!

Monday, November 01 2010 at 08:00 PM

Wednesday, August 05 2009 at 08:00 PM

Sunday, October 10 2010 at 08:00 PM

Congrats on Harvard!!! Your cycle makes me a true believer that everything happens for a reason (LOL @ UCLA). Looks like I'm going to Penn. I don't think I want to wait it out for Stanford.

Thanks!
Saturday, October 30 2010 at 08:00 PM

Thanks and your cycle was terrific, HARVARD AND YALE, no one can beat that. Good Luck in law school and represent the African American community well at Harvard. We are all rooting for you!

Congratulations on a great cycle!
Wednesday, January 12 2011 at 07:00 PM

I couldn't imagine how tough of a decision it must have been between Harvard and Yale. I'm sure you'll have no regrets. Really the only thing left for you to do is to fall in love with the Red Sox. =D

Wednesday, August 05 2009 at 08:00 PM

If the school I'm going to is amazing then what does it make the school you're going to? Godly? Haha, anyways thanks for the encouragement and enjoy Harvard!

Same to you!
Friday, September 17 2010 at 08:00 PM

Thanks man! I'm thinking NYU. Unless, of course, I get some crimson love.
