Additional info & updates

Hey Everyone, here is my running total thus far:
Admit-Reject-Waitlist: 7 - 4 - 4

All scholarship money listed above is per year.

11/27: Sent out my first round of applications today. Was hoping to send them out a little earlier in the semester -- All is well otherwise. Also, does anyone else find it annoying to have to mail in a certification letter for some schools while others simply allow for the electronic submission to count as a signature?

12/03: Most of my applications are sent! Waiting anxiously to hear back from Pitt Law to see if I got admitted through the Early Admissions Program.

12/16: Denied at Pitt via small envelope. Kinda sucks that my first letter was a rejection but hopefully the rest of my cycle will go well.

01/06: Accepted at Quinnipiac via email. Starting to feel relieved now that I received an acceptance. Hoping that the letter in the mail will include something with regards to scholarships/grants.

01/08: Accepted at Widener via email. Also stated that I received a merit scholarship for $20K/year as long as I maintain a 3.0. Got my letter from Quinnipiac and states that I recieved a merit scholarship for $15K/year.

01/12: Accepted at Albany via status checker. Waiting for the letter in the mail and hoping it includes scholarship information.

01/14: Waitlisted at Buffalo via small envelope. Sent back the notification that I would like to be placed on the waitlist and further reviewed.

01/14: Accepted at Maine via status checker. Pretty excited since I was a little bummed to be waitlisted at Buffalo but this definitely brightened my day.

01/21: Deferred at Hofstra via status checker. Won't hear about a decision until March. A little frustrated about this since many of the law school prediction websites said my numbers would almost definitely make me an admitted candidate. All well, I guess I'll just have to wait.

01/26: Accepted at Rutgers - Newark via email. I was shocked to hear back from them so soon considering that they are one of the last minute schools that I applied to. Either way, I am still excited about getting accepted there and hope that the letter in the mail includes some sort of financial aid.

02/09: Denied at Temple via status checker. A little down about this one even though I knew it was a reach school.

02/11: Accepted at Drexel via phone call. The admission director left me a voicemail congratulating me and offering me $5,000/year. Pretty excited since this means I can stay in the Philadelphia area.

02/18: Accepted at Akron via status checker. It took them pretty long to make a decision -- especially since their website says a decision is made 4-6 weeks after a file is complete. Regardless, I'm happy to be admitted. I am going to have to start deciding which schools I really want to attend soon.

2/22: Received a call from the dean at Akron. They are offering me 29K/year which would cover all of the tuition. Definitely a nice idea to leave law school with little to no debt. I'm going to see if some schools will offer more and try to let them compete for me. Rutgers - Newark also said that I would be able to be considered "in-state" as long as I signed a 12-month lease in New Jersey which would save me almost 10K/year if I decided to go there.

2/23: Waitlisted at Hofstra via status checker. This comes as a bit of a shock since many people with my numbers were admitted. I think that they may have waitlisted me due to how late I sent my application to them. Who knows.

2/27: Waitlisted at U. Conn via small envelope. Actually pretty happy that they didn't straight out deny me. This is definitely a reach school so I am going to send them more information, hoping that they will consider me further.

3/02: Denied at Penn State via email. This is pretty bitter-sweet since I would've enjoyed attending this school (even though I realize my numbers do not hit their target) but I also don't think I would be able to pay that much for tuition with some of the other offers I have received.

03/19: Waitlisted at Rutgers - Camden via small envelope. I would have definitely went here if they admitted me because I would have been able to commute. I'm pretty sure that I will be going to Rutgers - Newark in the fall but I still have a little bit of time to decide that.

03/29: Denied at Washington and Lee. I knew this would be their decision since my numbers don't even come close to their typical applicant pool.

***DECISION: I have decided to attend Rutgers - Newark and have withdrawn all of my other applications. The only application I did not withdraw was the one for Rutgers - Camden. I will give them until July 1st to make a decision as whether to admit or deny me from the waitlist. If they admit me, I will likely go there instead of Newark but only because it is closer to my home and I would be able to commute. I feel that both programs are well respected and am looking forward to holding a law degree from Rutgers University.

08/07: So, I just finished my first week of orientation for Rutgers - Newark and I love it! I've already met some great people and look forward to what this experience has to hold for me. I wish everyone the best the luck in their cycle!

Good Luck with your cycle as well. I applied regular decision to Pitt. I wasn't even aware of their ED option. Is it binding? I visited Pitt in October, have you visited?

I went for University Park. Figure if I do not like it I can switch for 2L and 3L. As far as a first choice, I do not really know at this point. Uconn is high up there but I am not holding my breath. VT is looking good too. Yourself?

Top Choice

Hey, my top choices are U. Conn, Washington and Lee, and Temple. I really hope to get into Temple since it has a great reputation in the Philly area and is inexpensive, but I realize that my numbers do not reach their target so I'm just hoping they consider me.

When I saw your screen name, I thought you really wanted to go to IU-Bloomington but I guess not... Congrats on being waitlisted at Buffalo! We have similar numbers & schools. Good luck :)

Hi there!

Hi! I was wondering, when you say you got "deferred" at Hofstra, how did you find that out. I've been pending commitee review for like, 3 weeks...I was wondering if that basically means i'm deferred, or how that works. Congrats on some great schools so far!

Sunday, December 20 2009 at 07:00 PM

So I got an e-mail from Rutgers-Newark saying that they're deferring making a decision until later. What do you think this really means? and how long do you think they'll defer it til?

Wednesday, January 20 2010 at 07:00 PM

Have you heard anything else from Albany as far as scholarship information?

Sunday, December 20 2009 at 07:00 PM

Thanks for the info :) I hope they make their decision before the summer! Out of curiosity, did you select to compete based on your LSAT & GPA or your experiences & accomplishments?

Sunday, December 20 2009 at 07:00 PM

I also chose that option. I didn't know that you could submit a diversity statement though?

Saturday, October 17 2009 at 08:00 PM

No, the status checker hasn't changed since they first sent me the link for it.
