My Advice:
I strongly believe the website forpeopleofcolor.org really helped me, despite applying relatively late. They email you a guide that has tons of examples on how to make your application stand out, and how to make the admissions committee get a true sense of you.

Definitely check it out: forpeopleofcolor.org.

Also, I went through alot of drafts for my personal statement. I used my friends, a 1L in Law School, a Law Professor, and the writing center at my school to review several of my drafts.

My recommendation letters were very strong. I got them from people I knew really knew me and believed in me. Don't be afraid to ask for an awesome recommendation letter. I asked for mines kind of late. I'd say ask for them in May (don't wait till after you take the test).

Also, aim for the June Lsat... don't start studying late. That can hurt you. I was really lucky to do substantially better on the December test after bombing the September test. That is unnecessary stress though. Save yourself the headache and study early. I also took test early in the morning, to get my mind ready for taking it at that hour on test day.

Be sure to always review a practice test after you take it. I didn't do that at first, and it hurt me. Drills are a very good tool as well.

Additional info & updates

I'll put more info once the cycle is over. Applied between Dec 29-Jan 1.

1/06 So I got a fee waiver from Notre Dame and Washington U. They were originally on my list, but I took them off because I couldn't spend anymore on applications. Never pictured myself living in those places anyways (I applied to Indiana because they gave me the waiver). I don't know if I should spend the $12/each. hmmm.. What do you all think? Still haven't sent out the UF app... I really need to just go to the library and print the form to send out.

For everyone waiting now? What are you all doing law related? Looking for scholarships? I dunno. I need to do something to keep me from checking my email every hour lol.

01/15 Found out I got accepted into William and Mary. They gave me $10,000/per year not much but something. YAY. Heard back in less than 2 weeks!

01/18 Found out I got accepted into University of Georgia via status checker :)

01/29 Waitlisted at UVA... :-/

01/31 ACCEPTED AT NYU!!!! OMG!!!

2/23 I guess I haven't updated in awhile... mainly because there wasn't much happening... like 2 weeks ago I got into Vanderbilt (yay!), but today I found out I'm an Anbryce Finalist... so pray for me during the interview hopefully I can get a full-ride to NYU. That would be amazing.

Any advice on how to prepare!?! Its a month away.

2/26 Accepted at Georgetown! and 2 days ago at WashU.

3/3 Accepted at Duke!

3/6 Accepted at Howard!

3/9 In at Emory!

3/11 In at BU

3/12 Waitlisted at UMinn and Washington and Lee.

3/18 Accepted at UMICH! :)

3/29 I GOT A FULL RIDE TO NYU!!! YAY!!

3/30 So I just withdrew from ALOT of schools... Kept someof the pending ones... I just want to see if I would get in... I mean is that bad lol?

With your GPA, I think you'll get in with scholarships to everywhere you applied! I'll definitely be watching your cycle :) Good luck!

Thanks

Hey I appreciate it, thanks. My advice is to apply to at least Wash U, your probably a prime candidate for their Scholars in Law scholarship. Besides you can always play them off against another school if you get money. -Good Luck... but I'm positive you won't need any.

Thanks gurl!

Thanks gurl! As far as Wash U and Notre Dame, you should apply to both. I didn't apply to Wash U because I hate St. Louis with a passion, but it's a good school with a lot of scholarship money. Good luck with everything! I'm sure you'll do fine. And yes, this waiting is killing me also!

UofC vs NYU
Saturday, December 19 2009 at 07:00 PM

Congrats on your awesome cycle! I just think I'll be happiest and most successful at UofC. I want to practice in Chicago so it makes sense for me to live/study law there as well; plus, I love the small class size and what that does for the level of competition. I really appreciate how accessible the faculty are as that interaction is really important to me... ah, just so many things haha. Which school are you leaning toward?

amazing!

Congrats on NYU/AnBryce! Looks like I'm headed there as well - hope to see you there!

NYU
Friday, January 08 2010 at 07:00 PM

Yeah, I got the Root Tilden Kern scholarship. I agree with everything you said...I was just so impressed with NYU's public interest support, plus I couldn't pass up the prospect of little-to-no debt! Though I am still having nightmares about passing up HLS (i may crack if one more person says "but why aren't you going to harvard?!?!"), but I know it'll all be fine once I'm back in the greatest city in the world! :)

decision...
Friday, December 04 2009 at 07:00 PM

Well yes and no about having made a decision yet - I will probably be attending USC in the fall. (Unless I get off of the Stanford/Harvard waitlists.) Oh and no - its not bad at all just to see if you would get in! You are in a wonderful position just to not care!
