Additional info & updates

First time taking official prep LSAT (timed): 163 * I'm not disappointed at all for a first try!

First Generation in America, in College.

I'm aiming for a 170 for the LSAT, fingers crossed for a 175 !

I have a unique and outrageous story, I am a 20 year old Non-Traditional Applicant, graduating early. However, applying late because I'm taking the Dec. LSAT.

Georgetown is my #1 reach because I believe it's the top law school I have the greatest chance at landing (with it's part time program and some ties to the dc area).

UPENN/ Columbia are dreams I hope to come true.

UF is my #1 safety, low tuition for residents, great school for the region, GO GATORS, enough said.

I can imagine myself either settling/basing in California, Texas, or Florida. Perhaps even somewhere in the Northeast, dare I say even in the Midwest with Illinois?

**The list is just one of schools that have my interest!!

**Is taking the Dec. LSAT going to place you at a great disadvantage for consideration?

Graduating a year early is making me even more nervous about the possibility (or probability for some schools) of acceptance to law school.

You're probably gonna need a 175+ and an ED to stand a chance at Georgetown. Also, that December LSAT might hurt you. You should also consider going into the PT program. Also, you're not URM. Asians are quite over represented in higher education.

Asian Americans are indeed represented well in higher education in general, though I am unsure on what you are trying to imply with your statement of "over represented" in higher education. If you can understand the concept following, then perhaps you may understand why Asian Americans are under represented in the field of law. Though African Americans and Hispanic Americans in terms of population are greater by amount to Asian Americans, still are under represented in the field of medicine. Whereas, Asian Americans are under represented minorities in the field of law but well represented in the field of medicine. Best of luck!

Yes, I am most definitely trying for the part time program at Georgetown Law as well.

Hey

Hey yeah I am, good luck on your cycle! Asians are not URMs though, while it is true that we are under represented in the field of law we have been very well represented in law school classes these past few years. So, while we are still under represented in the field of law, we are not in the schools themselves and it is only a matter of time until we are no longer under represented in the field as well. Also, December LSAT is pretty late in the cycle and it may hurt your chances at a few places. Applications are rolling and they open up on September 1st and there will be a lot of people applying right away. I don't think you can apply ED if you're going to take the Decemeber LSAT either...Just my 2 cents after looking over your profile. Best of luck on your cycle!

Thanks for your kind words. I am 1/6 Hispanic, so I'm unsure if I should list that.

Sunday, May 23 2010 at 08:00 PM

The general consensus on mexican/hispanic heritage is in order to claim the status, you need to be 1/4 or greater. Don't think 1/6 will cut it.

Thanks for the heads up! I will do further research on the matter. Though I suspect that for admission purposes, it doesn't matter (the fraction of ethnicity that is), though the primary purpose for such is two-folded: 1) it's required by law (reporting for minorities) 2) to signify a disadvantage by minority status. I believe the ethnicity "card" is only "picky" on the fraction of ethnicity when money is directly involved (e.g. grants and scholarships).

I don't think it is possible to be 1/6 Hispanic...or 1/6 anything for that matter. Your bloodline is divisible by two: so you can be 1/2, 3/4, 1/4, 1/8, 5/8s etc. but not 1/6.

Wednesday, August 25 2010 at 08:00 PM

Meant to put 1/8, I didn't know you cared that much?

Good Luck!

Best of luck on your cycle! From what I've heard, most schools don't consider Asian descent a URM, but I can't confirm this and it may vary from school to school. With a strong LSAT, I think you might manage ED into Georgetown with or without it. Is the October LSAT out of the question for you? Seems like submitting earlier is always better.

Thank You : )
Wednesday, August 25 2010 at 08:00 PM

The October LSAT is a "no-go" for me, I'm not ready at all, I just started studying a bit ago. I may not pull the URM card if that is the case, thanks for the heads up. Thanks also for your kind words, how did you do so amazing on the LSAT, perhaps you can give me a couple pointers. Talk to you soon : )

Will do...
Monday, August 30 2010 at 08:00 PM

You do the same, bud. Hope all goes well for you this cycle.

Perhaps...
Monday, August 30 2010 at 08:00 PM

But, I'm not real yet. If I stick in Texas, it will probably be either here in Houston or Lubbock where I did my undergrad. I am not too sure if I can get in either place to be honest...

GEORGETOWN
Wednesday, May 19 2010 at 08:00 PM

WHAT? you wont need a 175^ to get into g'town. Apply early with a good personal statement and a 167^ plus URM and you should be straight...

Kosher +
Monday, August 23 2010 at 08:00 PM

Not only is Cardozo Kosher, but I visited Touro today and its Kosher also. I was surprisingly VERY impressed.

Thank you so much!
Friday, January 01 2010 at 07:00 PM

You are awesome! Thank you so much for your encouragement! I wish you the best during your cycle! I'm really confident that your cycle will rock!

Gtown should be fine
Monday, June 21 2010 at 08:00 PM

Hey thanks for the encouragement! Also, don't listen to anyone saying you will need a 175+ to get into Gtown. There's no use worrying about a specific score until you actually have one -- it will only serve to stress you out and under-perform. In my opinion you can get in with something in the 160s and course you are a URM, youre listed as Hispanic!

Good-luck!

Hey Viet bro. Hope this cycle goes well for you. I'm trying to study for the LSAT right now, but it's definitely rough!
