Additional info & updates

*Applying the second time around (last cycle Fall 2007), let's see how this goes, hopefully it's not as brutal as the last one, but again it only takes one acceptance to go to law school!

*Not the greatest test taker (to put it lightly), and the LSAT is evidence of that, I put in an addendum about my SAT/ACT scores to the LSAT, so far it has not persuaded 6 schools.

Might as well do the update thread......

2/10: Waitlisted @ Phoenix (I admit I was a little surprised but staying on the waitlist for now and will visit the school next month)

2/13: Rejected at Thomas Jefferson
*This one stung, a lot, I thought at the very least I would have been waitlisted.

2/18: Rejected at La Verne
* I honestly don't believe that they even read my application, they just tossed it as soon as they saw my score.

I didn't check my mail in a few weeks but got some more rejection letters last week :(
*DePaul (dated 2/17)
* Gonzaga (dated 2/20)

3/6: In an act of insane desperation I applied to Cooley, I think that school is a complete joke but I need options :(

3/12: Phoenix Law invited me to participate in AAMPLE, the conditional program. I am definitely willing to put in the work but I don't have the cash for tuition and I am taking summer school to finish my master's degree by August. I'm still thinking about this though as this might be my best shot at law school. I'm checking out the campus on the 16th and if I like what I see it might just be enough to do AAMPLE for Phoenix.

3/12: Southwestern mailed out my decision (via status checker) so it should be in my mailbox by tomorrow or Monday.

3/13: Whittier made a decision on my file - doesn't say the decision - (via status checker) so that should be in my mailbox by the very latest Monday or Tuesday

3/17: Checked my mailbox and found thin envelopes from Whittier and Southwestern, I was so devastated about Whittier, I thought I would at the very least get waitslisted considering the last time I applied I had a lower gpa, LSAT and no master's degree.

3/19: Plan to apply to University of Detroit Mercy and Golden Gate University, ugh it's so late in the game but seriously I have nothing to lose at this point just $$$ :(

3/25: Waitlisted at Loyola New Orleans
*It's better than a rejection at this point and I'll take it :)

3/26: Four rejection letters (it's not as brutal as you may think b/c they were expected):
- Arizona State
- Boston College
- Rutgers - Newark
- University of San Francisco

*Looks like things are winding down, I am still amazed that I haven't heard from USC yet, I anticipate it to be a rejection b/c if anything it should be auto-reject......

3/30: USC, San Diego, both rejections, there were expected and it's completely ok.

3/31: Applied to University of Detroit Mercy and Pacific, we'll see where this goes, I am hopeful but realistic as it is very late in the game to be applying to these two schools.

4/10: Checked the mailbox and saw a little sticker on the side of the letter saying "Welcome to the FAMily!" I'm in at Florida A&M!!!!! yay :) Now I know how an acceptance looks like ;)

4/16: Rejected at Santa Clara, it's completely ok b/c it was expected but the rejection letter was really nice actually. I am just peeved I had to waste $75 on that app......and the cycle continues

4/29: Sent in deposit for Florida A&M, it's not sure thing but I felt that I needed more time to think it over so I sent the deposit to save my seat.

5/2: Rejected from McGeorge (University of the Pacific) what a waste of nearly $75. Still got a few more schools to wait on before I make a final decision. Seriously, Loyola is taking way too long to reject me. I applied at the exact same time the last cycle I applied to and went complete nearly at the same time and found out I got rejected way before graduating from undergrad. What gives Loyola?!??!

Some more updates to round out the cycle:
5/5: Rejection from Notre Dame

5/10: got a letter from Univ. of Detroit Mercy and they said they need more stuff from me such as a current letter of rec and an updated graduate transcript. Think it was so late in the game I asked admissions if I was at a disadvantge at this pt and they said, "no, they're still plenty of spots left in all program just send the stuff" I asked the person twice about this and said the same thing. So I have hope now.....b/c I really like UDM and their approach to law school it may be a T4 school but it's definitely everything I want out of law school

5/13: Rejection from Chapman via status checker, waste of $65

5/15: Rejection from Loyola LA *finally* I don't know why it took them so long............

5/21: Rejected from Cal Western, seriously it took them 3 months to realize that............

The only one left is UDM, we'll see where that goes........... I might as well start making movement on the wait lists I am on....

6/25: In at UDM!!!! yay I got a email and phone call from admissions, my law school cycle is over yesssss! :)

7/14: Sent in deposit for UDM, it seems so official now. I am pretty much decided on UDM so I plan to withdraw from everywhere else by the end of next week. So it's now onwards to Michigan and my app cycle is finally over, wooo!

BU

Just curious, how'd you hear that you were complete at BU? That was awful quick that you heard it... I'm still waiting.

hey there :)
Thursday, December 21 2006 at 07:00 PM

Thanks for getting back to me... I actually never really got a consensus on going complete at BU. One girl told me she got a tattered post card in the mail months after sending her app in. Then I noticed that some people (like you) went complete pretty soon after their submit date, so I was wondering if you heard via a postcard sent to your current address or what...? Thanks! Good luck!

Thanks

Thanks for the kind words. I also wish you the best as well. Unlike me, you have such a high GPA which I think should offset a low LSAT score. Have you considered retaking the LSAT in June and using it as leverage for Phoenix and for the other schools that denied you? May not be a bad idea to consider.

Good Luck to you Too!!!
Sunday, January 25 2009 at 07:00 PM

Thank you!!! best of luck to you too. I hate the LSATs with such a passion...i do not understand how schools can deem me worthy of being accepted to law school based on one long day of testing. Yes we are in similar boats and i can tell that u are a hard worker like myself therefore hopefully schools will look at the 16 years worked out butts off in school versus one day of testing. Good luck again on your cycle. Keep the faith...we want it and we deserve it!

Transfer
Monday, January 12 2009 at 07:00 PM

You still apply through LSAC as a transfer don't you? So they would see your LSAT scores, right? That's what I'm hoping on. BTW, don't do summer programs to get into the fall semester - they're too risky to spend so much money on a possibility of getting in.

USD

did your status checker for USD change to "decision rendered" or "deny"..?? Just trying to figure out what mine means... thanks!

Congrats
Tuesday, January 13 2009 at 07:00 PM

on FAMU, It's the only yes I have so far as well, lol. I must agree with you on Cooley. Those fool's lost part of my app, and got upset with me because I asked them how they could do something so stupid, lol. After that I told them to scrap my app. Good Luck!

UDM
Wednesday, October 24 2007 at 08:00 PM

Thanks for the response. Well, I do remember reading somewhere that 1 of the 2 LOR's must be under a year old. I hope they don't bother me with that because mine WERE under a year when I applied back in early March. Actually though, I applied last year to UDM and everything went very smoothly(got rejected tho). So maybe all these obstacles are a good thing for us. Would you seriously consider UDM? Downtown Detroit is a lot different than L.A (putting it mildly)...lol

UDM
Tuesday, January 06 2009 at 07:00 PM

Best of luck with UDM. I didn't end up applying there but I only hear really great things about that school and their revolutionary case-based educational system. Most people don't realize how strong the program at UDM is. Though it's ranked lower than most schools, it gets a LOT of oci's (especially in NY, where they seem to appreciate the specialized and practical education at UDM).

Wednesday, October 24 2007 at 08:00 PM

Any movement with UDM or other schools? Where are you leaning towards? Checking in to see how you are doing in the late stages of this game.

Wednesday, October 24 2007 at 08:00 PM

I'm actually not too upset about the waitlist especially after a few emails with the asst dean. I am hopeful they let me in next week or 2. The timing was strange though (its already getting into mid-June). Did you ever send an app to Golden Gate? I visited Cooley back in March and its not horrendous, but I just got a bad feeling about the place. How is Phoenix and New Orleans looking? Anyhow- sorry for rambling. Keep us updated on how it turns out- especially udm!

Congrats on UDM
Wednesday, October 24 2007 at 08:00 PM

Just saw you got accepted! Good for you. Still got a few waitlists + FAMU, Cooley, UDM. Who is looking like your #1 choice at this point?

Wednesday, October 24 2007 at 08:00 PM

I am in the evening division planning on taking 12 credits the first semester. I consider that full time. I like taking summer classes. I can't imagine someone moving from California to Detroit! Wow. Let us know what you decide to do.

Wednesday, October 24 2007 at 08:00 PM

Hey there- we have a mere 4 weeks until orientation. Its fast approaching. You going to be able to get situated in Michigan in time? Don't get too scared when you first visit Detroit (its probaly comparable to inner city Oakland, Ca). Its not a city that is eye pleasing, but once you get used to downtown you'll be fine. Let us know how it turns out.

And I thought the drive I had was going
Wednesday, December 31 2008 at 07:00 PM

Congratulations on UDM, from CA how far by car? I'm about 20 hrs drive from LA.... just wondering....

...
Wednesday, December 31 2008 at 07:00 PM

Orientation is 8/14 so I'm leaving on 8/10 to give myself some time to get there? When do u start UDM?

Wednesday, October 24 2007 at 08:00 PM

Just curious, but what did you end up deciding to do?
