-Checked out Pepperdine and Loyola this week. Wow, Loyola sucks and Pepperdine is the bomb!!!!!!!!

Loyola looks like a turd out in the middle of a concrete jungle, while Pepperdine looks like a paradise vacation on the beach in a killer little town, yet still close to jobs in LA. I can see now why Pepperdine has climbed the rankings by more than any other school in the country over the past 3 years now.

Pepperdine offers its students basically the most money of any school, even schools ranked WAY, WAY lower. You have to think that after a few more years the student quality will grow even more. I think most people think of Pepperdine the wrong way. It really has to be visited. Even without a scholarship it is cheaper than Santa Clara, USF, Loyola and any other private school in Cali.

Personally, I think it looks like a better academic and living experience than both UC Hastings and UC Davis.

I see Pepperdine becoming a top 50 school in the next 5 years, and even if it doesn't it is still the best overall experience I've seen after visiting numerous schools.

I used to see UC Hastings and UC Davis as sort of in a higher league than Pepperdine and Loyola, but now I see Pepperdine as BETTER than the other 3. I've gone to UC Davis and currently go to school in SF and don't think SF is the best place to study. Great place to work, but school there is way overpriced and overstressful. I drive by Hastings almost every day and it is a rather shitty looking school--bad neighborhood with high crime. So I'm glad they discriminated against me and accepted some minorities in my place.

My overall point: if your logic is so underdeveloped that all you do to decide which schools are best is look at the rankings, you sir are a fool. 3 years of high quality life will result in more value than 20 places in the rankings. I personally think 20 places, maybe even 50 places in the rankings is a rather insignificant result in the job market. I mean, if you can have numbers lower than me yet get into USC or UCLA, I don't value you highly. In fact, I value you lower than me at any school I choose.

My ex LSAT teacher was a dumb idiot with the numbers I just mentioned.

Seriously, if your school isn't in the top 20, you might as well choose the most comfortable city and best financial package.

Update:

UC Davis accepted me as apparently the last guy they chose and I accepted.

I'm considering GMU as well because of the Law and Economics program. The UVa waitlist threw me a curveball because I never expected to be anything but rejected. I may send them a LOCI, but we'll see. I'll let you know if choose to go out to Mason.

Congratulations on your acceptances. I'm sooo jealous. I haven't been contacted since December and it's killing me. :(

u got good options!

Despite the rejection from Hastings, I'd say that u have some pretty good options between GMU and pepperdine, and of course made even better if u get into davis. but honestly speaking, i'm not sure how easy it'd be to get a $100,000 job from pepperdine unless u're at the TOP of ur class (like in the top 5 or maybe even 10%). But of course, can't deny that the scholarship money is tempting. For a job with a high starting pay, davis would definitely be the best (cuz i think u can be in like the top third of ur class and still get some dang good offers). I believe GMU's also pretty good too, but definitely much less than Davis. But since they're both regional schools, you're future residency is definitely something to think about. Nonetheless, u got good options! Hopefully u'll get into Davis so that u'll have more options to choose from!

well, i sure hope ur right about grades mattering significantly more than the school's ranking cuz that'd be awesome for me, since loyola is still my top choice! And also, don't rule out the possibility that u won't be able to marry a virginia resident cuz u never know! haha, jk. I wish u luck on the rest of ur schools, especially davis and usc (i'm waiting on those too)!

Thanks for letting me know! But that's really funny because I actually got a $15k scholarship also after calling them and received the official letter just yesterday! Had i called much earlier, i bet they would've said the same thing to me. But it seems like they decided to give out a $15k scholarship to some students who asked for some money, like you and me. Let's hope that we'll be able to get some more!

you have some great scholarships from Pepperdine and Loyola. So where are you leaning towards. It's really interesting to see how people pick. They're very much alike in the same market but so different. The cost of living at Pepperdine/Malibu is drastically higher than Loyola area and the connections are also very different leaning more heavily to loyola because of alumni base and location in downtown L.A. But Pepperdine is fast growing... i'd love to hear your thoughts.

hahahahaha. you're hilarious. I read your comments about Pepperdine/Loyola/Hastings/etc. and I just started laughing...hahaha... beautiful. Pepperdine is a great choice. I'm glad that you actually did research about the place. I was waitlisted and dying to get in because I love soCal so much and I love Pepperdine especially for their DR program and their professors are to die for (i love Ken Starr, he's amazing and their Vice Dean Perrin is an alum of my school and he's fantastic) and it KILLS me when people say they're picking or leaning towards pepperdine mainly because of the weather and malibu and because of the rankings, etc. there is so much more to the school than that. ;) I'm glad you're so excited about Pepperdine. It'll be a fine time for you.

hahahaha. why do i think you'd actually enjoy that challenge. Sadly, I won't be all that hard to figure out. I've put so much info about myself on that page. Oops. ;) I love santa clara for their IP/International program but I'm definitely throwing everything I've got at Pepperdine. Wish me luck. ;)

Hey! I don't check my profile that often and I just saw the comment you left. I visited Pepperdine, UC Davis, UC Hastings, UCLA, and USC last week and I have to say that Pepperdine is looking more and more attractive. I retook the LSAT in February and they increased my scholarship by almost another 10k/yr which is hard to ignore. I also definitely agree with you about Pepperdine over Hastings and Davis. Right now I'm leaning towards Pepperdine since UCLA and USC are stretches for me. If I decide that I want to be in CA then I think Pepperdine is going to be it for me.

Pepperdine?

So...are you thinking Pepperdine?! It's awesome, huh? I visited, too...

Hi, sorry to bother, but i'm begging you to withdraw from Davis if you're not planning to attend. With my stats it's miracle i'm waitlisted at Davis and I'm hoping for another miracle to be accepted :)

Will be joining you ;D

And I'm totally stoked, too! Having read your rant, I'd only suggest you change the "3 years of high quality life will be result in more..." to omit the "be" ;)

Pepperdine!!!
Tuesday, November 04 2008 at 07:00 PM

Yep! I'm officially going to Pepperdine and I'm SO excited. Out of curiosity, why would you not go to GW even if they accepted you? I've passed up "better" (ie higher ranked) schools, as you can see from my profile, for Pepperdine because, after visiting, I fell in love...and, having been out of school for a number of years, I know what I want, and that isn't to practice big law or be around students who want to practice big law. Rather, I'd like to be in a nurturing environment that emphasizes teaching and where, like you said, I can be top of my class...or at least that's what I'm hoping!!!

Congrats on some great school option! I'm currently WLd at Davis and am asking that if you don't plan on attending to please withdraw. Hopefully this wil create a spot for me this Fall. Thanks!!!
