Additional info & updates

10-17-09 Sent in applications to UNC, Wake Forest, Colorado, Villanova, UConn, and Tennessee this morning.

10-19-09 Received a lovely email from Villanova this morning saying that they got my application and with information about how to log on to my status checker, they say it will be about 2-3 weeks before I go complete.

10-19-09 Got an email from Wake telling me they got my application and providing me with status checker info.

10-22-09 Got an email from UConn saying that my application and LSDAS report have been received. Also got an email from Wake saying I've gone complete. Got another email later in the day from UConn saying I've gone complete and that they will start reviewing applications in January. Email from Tennessee with status checker info.

10-27-09 Email from Colorado saying application is complete.

11-7-09 Email from UNC saying they got my application. Promises of more emails to come with info about whether I'm complete and ready for review.

11-13-09 Accepted to Tennessee via voicemail, super excited! The first one feels really good....

11-17-09 Received acceptance letter from Tennessee in the mail in a small envelope.

12-1-09 Status Change at Villanova from "complete" to "ready for review".

12-11-09 Accepted to Villanova via status checker. Woohoo! I have options!

12-18-09 Accepted to Wake Forest via email!

12-18-09 Accepted to Colorado via snail mail (large envelope).

1-15-10 Received scholarship offer from UT in large envelope today. Happy.

2-6-10 Accepted to UConn via snail mail (small envelope). Just waiting on UNC now....

3-4-10 Waitlisted at UNC via snail mail today. Pffffff. They clearly don't know a quality student when they see one :)

3-25-10 Decisions decisions...

3-30-10 I knew it was going to be Wake for a long time, but I was still clinging to my other acceptances and scholly from UTK. So, in case anyone wants to know, here's how I decided...

UConn & Villanova - these were my safeties and would have only attended if I did not get in anywhere else or received a huge scholarship to make up for the ridiculous tuition. Both schools were okay, not much interaction with them though, it was more of an "you're accepted, send us a deposit if you want" type of thing.

Colorado - Did not expect to get in. I was seriously considering them because you can get in state tuition for 2L and 3L but eventually decided it would be too much of a move and that my personality might have clashed with the "typical" colorado law student. However, they were incredibly kind and helpful and it is clearly a great school, just not right for me.

Tennessee - This one hurt to withdraw from. The staff was probably the best I have interacted with. Exceptionally knowledgeable, courteous and helpful. I really wish I could go, but I do not want to live in Tennessee and I'm not sure about job prospects in NC, VA or DC. But to all of you future applicants, Tennessee is superb (and their building is beautiful).

UNC - Those bunch of characters. You never know what you get with UNC. I thought I had a really strong application, but apparently so does everyone else. However, their admissions staff is not exactly the best around. They might just be understaffed. So, staying on the Waitlist through June only because they are so much cheaper than Wake, although I feel Wake is the better fit for me.

Wake Forest - Is the perfect school for me. I can't describe it, but I think when you visit a couple different schools, you find one that just matches so perfectly with your personality and your goals and you fall in love. Wake's staff is also super helpful, prompt and kind. It's on a beautiful campus, excellent professors, great job prospects in the areas I'm interested in...I could go on and on. The only drawback is that I did not get a scholarship and will most likely not get one.

I really hope my little diary has been helpful to this year's applicants and will continue to be helpful for applicants in the years to come! Advice - apply early, take the application and personal statement seriously, let your personality shine through and aim high. Best of luck!

Yep, UNC's my number one! I also just realized it was you who commented on my last post in the UNC thread on TLS. Any chance you're also at UNC for UG?

Wow!

That's fantastic! I would be willing to bet that your major was a contributing factor in our Wake decisions (I got WL). I'm a boring Political Science major. Being from State, I'm sure you've made it over to UNC at some point but if you have any questions about campus or anything, feel free to ask. :) Hope we're both here in the fall!

Hey not to be creepy I know you from TLS (I'm jerzgrl). I agree that they don't know a quality student when they see one, but I bet you make it off the WL so don't give up hope yet!

I'm so sorry to hear about UNC :( *big hug* Give the WL a shot, you never know.

I'm shocked to see you were waitlisted. I figured you had a better shot than I did at getting in this cycle. Maybe my reapplying after a WL gave me a small boost. Are you staying on the WL or committing elsewhere?

Yeah, I'll ride it out through Orientation if I have to. There's no better place for me to go to school with my goals. It was really rough to update my LSN though. It was almost like it wouldn't be real until it was on LSN. Now I have to figure out where the hell to send a deposit to >.<

No idea what it did to the end of my post there. I made a squinty "DOH!" face and apparently it didn't like that.

UNC WL

When I first opened my mailbox it looked like there was nothing but an advertisement. So I was excited until I pulled the ad out and the UNC envelope hit the floor. I had a meltdown right in my apartment lobby with my dad watching. I felt just like you did. It's really hard to see people who don't care like we do get admitted over us. I don't know what I think they put more emphasis on this year because people got in with worse stats than we have. *shrugs* I'm doing everything I can to get off of the WL short of offering voluntary servitude. Keeping my fingers crossed for both of us!

congrats on wake!

Hey congratulations on Wake. It seems like an amazing place and probably I will see you around next year!

Friday, July 10 2009 at 08:00 PM

Haha yeah it will be quite a transition. Though I'm originally from TX so kind of back to my roots :)

Enjoyed the little blog breakdown of each school. I'll see you at Wake in the Fall!

Eh, it woulda been a nice option but in the end I was probably going to Wake anyways.

So Sorry
Friday, October 16 2009 at 08:00 PM

Hey LML! I'm so sorry it has taken me so long to respond to you! Life has been pure insanity, from graduation to taking my aunt who fell through her attic back home to meeting my brand new baby niece. Needless to say, TLS and LSN have fallen off my radar. I still haven't heard anything from anyone (except the email this weekend saying UNC was activating the waitlist, which I find crazy since it's a month earlier than anyone could possibly have expected and I hope it bodes well). I did not pay the second deposit at Campbell so I'm taking a major gamble. If I don't get off of a waitlist, I'm not going to law school this year. I just talked to everyone I possibly could about it and realized that if I can't go to one of these schools, it's not worth it to go to school this year, both financially and opportunity wise. My fingers are crossed so tightly they're about to break. UNC is still the logical choice but I've had so much time to think about all 3 schools that I've come to not care that much which one lets me in, as long as one does. I'll be sure to keep you updated. :D

Waitlisted at Carolina
Thursday, June 25 2009 at 08:00 PM

Hey lml, I see your posts on the UNC waitlist thread on tls. I can't believe that with your numbers you got waitlisted and they put you in the same category as me with my sub par numbers for their school. Its hard to believe. Good luck and I hope we see each other there this fall.

Oh yes, Campbell is $90,000 plus interest more than Carolina.

Yay!

Looks like we're both going to be Demon Deacons!!! Got the call from Melanie Nutt (who is just too sweet) this afternoon. I'm so excited!!! Since you've already found a place, I was wondering if you had any suggestions for places to live or to avoid. I've only ever driven through Winston-Salem. >.<
