Thanks for the response. You're comments support my assumption: UIUC wants a high LSAT and cares little about anything else. I have an applicant friend who is similar to my profile in every way: journalist, nontraditional student, took long time to complete his B.A. But he got a 169, so they let him in right away. I'm not too upset about the deferral; I applied to UIUC for in-state tuition. Of the three Big 10 schools I applied to, I like it the least. I visited DePaul last weekend and feel like I could fit there. I have a four-year-old son, so I've got other considerations besides a school's rank. We'll see what UIUC does with me later in the cycle.

Do you have any idea how or when Iowa notifies you about financial aid? I get the impression from the acceptance letter that any award notices could be forthcoming. You have no idea how important getting into Iowa was for me. It was my long shot, my dream school. I can't believe it...

Not actually an Alaskan. I accidentally hit the wrong state when I first created the account, and now every time I change it, it changes back. I guess LSN wants me to be an Alaskan. I wouldn't mind it either, and I would definitely work in AK. My sister lives up there and has for about six years now. She did her grad. work in Fairbanks. It looks like you have a lot of schools to choose from. Any idea where you are going?

Thanks for the offer of tips on W&M. If they let me in, I will definitely ask. Colorado and U Washington would both be great choices. I can't remember right now why I didn't apply at CU-Boulder...hmmm?? My sister, the one in Alaska, did her MA at CU-Boulder. When I visited, Boulder was loads of fun. She studied atmospheric sciences at UAF, by the way. If you need information on U Washington or life in Seattle, let me know. I did my MA there. It has been a few years, but I would be happy to share.

Yeah, I have two theories about the UW delay: 1-I know that they have a secondary review for maybes, so maybe that just takes a really long time. 2-They don't send out waitlists until March, so we may just be in the waitlist pile. In either case good luck, and I hope to see you there.

Hey I'd take a waitlist at this point. Seattle's my number 2, so that's an easy transition for me even late. CO is a great school, I definantely considered it. Good luck there.

I'm pretty set on Colorado as well and was interested in hearing your reasoning behind choosing Boulder...Have you checked out the campus yet...

Thanks for all the information! It's always nice to bridge that information gap, which is why I like this site. I'll be visiting Boulder this weekend, and like you, think campus visits are really important. As to the my waitlists, I don't have a lot of hope for W&M since they waitlist everyone, but I'll definitely hit you up if I somehow make it off since my wife really wants to end up on the East Coast. Obviously Colorado makes that difficult, though I think the job placement statistics are largely a function of the choices students make before attending law school, i.e. students are more likely to attend a school in a region they want to work in. What I really want is a school with a solid reputation with a more diverse environment than what Utah offers...Colorado fits the bill I guess, at least if you count the ultra liberal rich kids :)I'll be in touch and thanks again...

Okay, so the law school bldg is beautiful, and I enjoyed the students and faculty I was able to meet. I even gave them my deposit rather than relying on the mail. Honestly though, the University of Utah did a much better job selling themselves...I wanted Colorado to make my decision easier. Instead, I found myself with a lot of doubtful feelings. It bugged me that they cut every activity short due to time constraints because they only planned for half a day. I couldn't figure out why they were in such a hurry especially when most of us in attendence spent more time traveling there than they spent introducting us to the school. Even with those complaints, I feel good about living in Boulder, and attending the law school. I'm still hoping for Washington though...How about you, are you going to keep UW as an option? And I agree with pretty much everything you said about job placements. If you want to work in the region, I think it's much easier to get a job because all those reasons you mentioned. If I want to work out of their sphere of influence, I would need to domost of the work myself...contacting them, traveling for interviews and so forth. But, I also believe it's not that hard either. My brother-in-law went to one of the worst schools known to mankind but did okay, targeted an area, past the bar, and got a job in fairly short order.

My wife\\\\\\\'s family is all in Houston and they\\\\\\\'re all attorneys with connections. UH is also in the 4th largest legal market (at least that\\\\\\\'s what I read). We also wanted to end up in Houston. Plus, it\'s going to be a ton cheaper than CO & AU. When it came down to it they\'re all regional schools and I had to take other factors into consideration other than ranking. UMN would be a different story though, and thats my first choice. I don\'t plan on getting in, but I\'m happy with UH either way.

Thanks. Looks like I got the WL email. I guess I can\'t complain. It appears you\'re trying to decide between UMN and CU? My 2 cents would be to go to UMN, even though CU has a sick new building and moving up in the ranking. Although if you really want to end up in the Colorado area and they gave some $$ then you\'d have a tough decision. Other than that UMN is a sweet school that you\'ll never have to apologize for. Again, Congrats, hopefully i get the call.
