Extra Curricular Information

On a seemingly somber but actually joyous note, I've decided not to go to law school for a variety of reasons. In short, I don't feel that, personally, the risk is worth the investment; but, I'm also not sure that I ever actually wanted to be a lawyer. That is, maybe I just wanted to have a prestigious job with job security and wouldn't have minded being a lawyer, and felt that this was an easy path. Those days are gone though, and even with the numerous acceptances I'm incredibly blessed by the Lord to have received, I feel that this is not my calling. I am incredibly confident in my decision and I'm glad that I have the maturity to realize that law school is not for me, instead of realizing this too late and being too proud and throwing away three years and a quarter million dollars. In fact, I'm even relieved, which I think indicates that I made the right decision.

As for my current acceptances; don't worry, I'll be withdrawing very soon to free my spots up for much more deserving people.

With that being said, my real numbers have been put up. I hope that my attempt at completing this chronicle of sent/received/completed/decision dates will help you all in the future through this process, which undoubtedly requires patience and strong will.
June 2010 = 160 (honestly, way below my practice scores)
October 2010 = 172 (did not study for the retake)
-Wrote an addendum, pretty sure the jump was large enough for schools to not care about the June score anyway, as evidenced by Duke and Georgetown.
Fall grades updated, changed GPA from 3.71 to 3.73. As of 1/14 (and perhaps a few days after), any school that gave me a decision has NOT seen the update.

I wish you all the very best of luck in your applications, and hope that most importantly, you are happy in wherever you find yourself in life.

Additional info & updates

LSAC based fee waiver got me most of those fee waivers, but got a couple merit-based ones that didn't overlap.

Decisions (in case of acceptances, the day I am sure I am in: for example even though Georgetown had me at 11/29 complete, I couldn't be sure until I got the 12/3 letter.)(Scholarships over 3 years):
12/2 - In at William & Mary via Status Checker!
12/3 - In at GULC via snail mail!
12/6 - W&M Graduate Fellowship (OOS tuition waiver), stipend, additional scholarship.
12/10 - Columbia Fall Grades request, says I can still remain ED. I have opted out (12/15).
12/17 - In at WUSTL and Duke via email!
12/20 - In at Cornell via email!
12/22 - In at GW via email! 6/6!

2011-
1/10 - WL at Chicago =( Sad because it was one of my top choices, but I'm not sure yet whether it's worth the effort to ride it out.
1/13 - In at Vandy via very heavy FedEx package! I'd say tied with Duke for best acceptance package, since Duke gave me a lanyard but Vandy gave me a bumper sticker!

1/13 - see info on left - will be withdrawing my acceptances soon. Have been pondering this for a very long time, and made my decision for good the night of 1/12.

Though I plan to attend law school next year, and honestly believe I want to be a lawyer, i greatly respect your decision. It is encouraging to see someone who does not have their heart set on what is indeed a risky and heavy commitment chose to pursue another passion. Best of luck!
