Recommendations:
1 Graduate professor
1 Past Employer
1 Current Employer
2 Optional evaluations

*Application strengths (relative):
-first generation college student
-worked in college
-graduate degree
-work experience

*Application weaknesses:
-weak undergraduate GPA- first three semesters only... maintained 3.5 after; 3.7 major GPA. Addendum submitted.
-weak LSAT- full-time student and full-time employee.... very little time to study/increase score. At this point, retaking the test is not an option.

...hoping for the best.

Final thoughts:
In hindsight, there are a few things I would have done differently:
- I would have studied for the LSAT more than a month in advance.
- I would have slaved over my personal statement to demonstrate growth since my horrible college semester 10 years ago.
- I would have visited each school earlier in the year rather than at peak application time.
- I would have been in more contact regarding my waitlist status.
-I would have negotiatied better scholarships.

Additional info & updates

1/16/12
Arkansas-Fayetteville: denied via mailed letter... not surprised, but such a quick rejection shakes the confidence

1/17/12
FL Coastal: accepted via online portal...

1/19/12
Got an email from South Texas stating they don't start reviewing applications until after the 2/15 deadline AND they pull records at random for review... one of the more frustrating things I've learned thus far.

1/21
Cooley: "decision letter mailed" updated online.

1/26
Texas Tech: status updated to 'decision made'... I don't have a letter or email yet but I'm assuming it's a rejection so I crossed it off my list

Cooley: received a thick package with acceptance info

1/27
Washburn: Got an acceptance phone call today with paperwork to follow

1/28
Texas Tech: Received rejection letter via mail

1/30
Washburn: acceptance packet arrived

Cooley: scholarship info via mail

2/1
Charlotte: accepted via email

2/6
Mich State: Waitlisted via online portal. (PUMPED I'm still in the running!) Submitted online form to admissions stating I'd like to be considered and I would be sending supplemental information.

Washburn: received admitted students day invite in mail

2/7
Tulsa: Waitlisted via online portal.

2/10
Widener: decision email; acceptance via online portal

2/11
Tulsa: received letter stating I had been waitlisted

Florida Coastal: received acceptance packet

2/13

Samford: JUST started to review my file.

2/15
Ohio Northern: Online portal updated to "Decision Rendered"... expecting a letter in the mail.

2/28
FL International: Decision letter mailed today via online portal

3/6
FL Int'l: Rejected but able to appeal. (I have no intention to.)

3/8
Toldeo: Accepted via online portal

It'll be interesting to see what happens with the new rankings that came out today. Seems all my top choices made large jumps. (Probably not so good for me.)

3/16
Baltimore: Waitlisted via email

3/27
LSU: rejected via email

UPDATE: Ohio Northern sent me the financial aid package last week... yikes. They award $52,600 a year. Is this comparable to the education I'll receive? I'll be visiting the school this weekend to see.
I'm visiting Washburn next weekend, Baltimore the next, and Widener after that. I'm withdrawing from Florida Coastal, Charlotte, William Mitchell, and Cooley this week.
I tried to schedule a visit with MSU but they have too many admitted student's days to work with the weekends I can make it. And I've tried to contact WVU about a visit but haven't heard back from them.

4/2
Syracuse: Came back from out of town to find a rejection letter in the mail.

4/3
Samford: Recieved a wait-list email.

4/12
South Carolina: Status checker changed to "decision mailed" - received wait list letter two days later - final decision will be given sometime after April 30th

***I have now become queen of the wait list. If anyone has questions about the process, please feel free to ask.***

4/16
South Texas: waitlisted via email.

4/24
Univ. Miss: Since they have decided to forget about my application, I've decided to withdraw.

5/7
Tulsa- Withdrew last week but noticed today on the portal that I was rejected from the waitlist.

****** The game just changed for me. I was offered a last minute scholarship at a school I thought very highly of. This may persuade my decision. ******

Decision Speed

How are you getting decisions so quickly? That is crazy!!! Now I'm half nervous I'll start getting decisions every day. Not sure I'm ready for that just yet!

Washburn is a very good school. I know plenty of successful attorney who went there. This is by far the best choice out of the schools that you were accepted.

@Smarj Washburn is probably top of my list this far but I'm having difficulty making it to Kansas for a visit. I hear Kansas is a very nice and laid back place to spend 3 years. I plan to head to back home to GA or SC (DC would be my last option) after school so I don't care what state I end up in as long as they prepare me for the multistate section of the bar. Thanks for your input!

LEO Response

I am excited about the LEO program at MSU. I went to MSU for undergrad and have heard great things from past LEO participants. I plan to participate in the program and subsequently gain admission to the Fall 2012 class.

Topeka isn't the best place to live in the world, but you are close to Kansas City and everyone in Kansas is super nice. Very relaxed place to live, plus it's in the capital, which could help making connections. To be honest my sister was rejected from Washburn with similar numbers as yours in 2007. Good Luck

From everything Ive heard, an application is placed on hold for essentially the same reasons as an application thats waitlisted, e.g. waiting to see how many seats are available, attempting to balance the demographics and numerical profiles, etc. I also think an application can be held just as long as the waitlist. Our best chances of getting an answer come after seat deposits are due in April and June. (I will likely be waitlisted until August.) Treat it like the waitlist and submit supplemental material, if possible, and visit the school if its your top choice. If you're not thrilled to go there anyway, it may be more frustration than it's worth. Best of luck.
