Additional info & updates

3/17/05 - Received an email from Assistant Director of Admissions at UC Davis to submit an addendum and explain increase of LSAT score. She explained that the admissions committee needs this information to complete the review of my application. I guess they do look beyond numbers...hopefully!

3/19/05 - Status for UC Davis changed to "Evaluation in Progress"

4/2/05 - DECISION from Hastings...but still waiting for the letter in the mail!

4/10/05 - email from USF Admissions saying that decision will be made in 2-3 weeks...process is unusually long b/c of the large amount of apps received this year (4,000+).

4/15/05 - Status for Davis changed to "File on Hold"

4/20/05 - Hastings keeps insisting that sometimes it takes a really long time for mail to leave the building. I find that hard to believe considering that it has been about 20 days since my status online changed to "Decision", and I still have not received my actual letter...AND I live in the Bay Area, about 20 minutes from the school! Perhaps my letter got lost? Why can't they just give me an answer...they should or else I'll keep calling weekly.

4/21/05 - Finally, an answer from Hastings. Bahumbug.

4/22/05 - Checked my status on UC Davis' site...waitlisted! WOW. Better than a rejection!

4/25/05 - Mailed waiting list response card to UC Davis. Keeping my fingers crossed to get off this waiting list ASAP!

4/27/05 - UC Davis status changed to "Response Received"...I still continue to check my status even though I'm waitlisted...obsessed much?!?!?! Ha!

4/27/05 - Decision on USF application was made. Contacted the school and emailed admissions director. I have a feeling the answer is not good. Oh well, I still have SCU for now.

4/30/05 - Waitlisted at USF. Decided to withdraw...Santa Clara's program is a bit stronger and I'm already waitlisted at Davis.

5/19/05 - Decision from Loyola mailed out today...just waiting for the mail to come! WAITLISTED.

No money from Santa Clara, but I spoke to the financial aid counselor, and she advised me to write a letter of appeal to the Admissions Committee Chair to re-consider me for a scholarship. So I'll be working on that, and hopefully I'll get something!

6/23/05 - $9K Law Faculty Scholarship offered after writing that letter. Kinda small, but anything helps!

hey My status changed on 4/9 and received the acceptance letter on 4/13. No info on scholarships and financial aid. You should contact the admissions office. I live in Southern California.

Hastings taking forever

You definitely need to figure out what happened because my status changed to decision at Hastings on 4/18 and I had my letter by 4/20. Ask them to re-send it.

Best of luck...

Thanks for your last message. It meant a lot coming from a former classmate. I know that you'll make a great student also, where ever you go. The fact that you improved your LSAT by nine points is evidence of your potential. Best of luck with Davis.

It's not just you; Loyola is taking forever. But, I guess no news is good news. They're still considering us. Good Luck!

Congrats on Santa Clara. Have you visited SCU? I will be attending in August, but live in NYC, so i have no way of getting out there to check it out. Could you email me if you feel like sharing any info. I won't aggravate you, just a few question.:)

Have you written a letter to Davis? I really think you should. This is what my admissions consultant outlined for me: Start by saying you're grateful to be on the waitlist and would like to acquaint the committee with changes to your application - then discuss anything new you've done since you applied - new grades that bring up your GPA, any new work, etc. If you don't have anything new, still say you're grateful to be on the waitlist, but then move to the next paragraph, which is that Pepperdine is your first choice of a law school and it's a good fit for your application. Here's where you'll need to do some research. Since your personal statement is about child advocacy and your mission statement is about religious persecution, go through the web site and look up classes/concentrations that focus on either of both of those things. Say you want to take those classes, study from the faculty that teach them, etc. Also look up special programs and centers. If I remember correctly, Pepperdine has an institute on Law and Religion - that fits with your Mission Statement. They also have a Legal Aid Clinic that would probably mesh with your personal statement. Talk about how you would not fail to take advantage of these programs. Finally, mention your own history of volunteerism and how this fits with Pepperdine's own tradition of service. You should write this same type of letter for every school where you get wait-listed. Also, make phone calls. Try to get in to talk to admissions officers. If you can't do that, write them emails that are shorter versions of the wait list letter.

Thanks

for your well wishes. Hastings was tough to turn down, but Fish is the type of firm that I want to end up with after LS. Having that job already negates the need to attend a higher school. Besides, Fish will pay for LS too. Hastings is a better than USD, but not that much better. Good luck with Loyola and Davis WL. But in any case, Santa Clara is a great school if you end up there.

Congrats to you!

Thanks for the congrats. I applied to Loyola's full-time program only. I didn't check my online status, so I'm not sure if it changed. I would much rather go to Loyola than Southwestern, but I have pretty much decided to not go to law school afterall. I sent back my waitlist reply to Loyola stating so. I came to the conclusion that at 35 years old, I really don't want to work my ass off for the next 3 years only to come out making under $100K and have at least that much in loans to pay back. If I was in my 20's, things would be different. Instead, I'm going to go into real estate. Good Luck to you!

Thank you
