Additional info & updates

10-30-10: Apps into Maine, UNH and NESL.

11-1-10: App at Maine went to complete, called admissions office, board will not meet until after Thanksgiving.

11-2-10: Northeastern offered a fee waiver, I am under their 25th, but within their LSAT quota, $12 is worth the peace of mind.

11-10-10: Suffolk emailed me and offered a fee waiver, another $12 for peace of mind, I have a much better chance here than NUSL, and I heard they place well in Boston firms. The 25k they offer veterans doesn't hurt.

11-12-10: Application went live at NESL, I have been seeing acceptances from them, hopefully one in the mail for me.

11-19-10: My application at UNH went live; they finally updated their site from the old Franklin Pierce imagery. Called the admissions office, I should hear something within a week.

11-20-10: First acceptance from NESL!! It is my safety school, but good to see anyways. I will put in a financial aid packet, need to do more research into the school and their VA benefits.

11-29-10: Email from Suffolk (paraphrased): "Application is complete and under review, you'll hear something by mid-April". Ugh, this will be a long 4 months.

12-2-10: Application at UNH is "Under Review"

12-3-10: What a nifty surprise... logged onto UNH status checker expecting to see Under Review, and it said Accepted!

12-6-10: Accepted to UML via status checker!!!

12-18-10: In at Suffolk via small white envelope!! 4 for 5 baby!

01-03-11: Final decision came via a rejection email today from Northeastern. I was not expecting to get in there, and if I did get in, I don%u2019t think I would have ended up attending anyways.

As of today, I am withdrawing my applications to New England, Suffolk, and New Hampshire. Maine is my number one choice and with the Yellow Ribbon that they offered, no other school will come close financially. Best of luck to all of the other applicants I have interacted with and if you will be attending Maine Law in 2011 please drop me a line!

Happy New Year!

Hey, Thanks for the comment. Good luck with your cycle, although I'm sure you're not going to need it with your LSAT and military experience. Is Maine your first choice? It's definitely mine, but I don't think I'm going to get in so I'm hoping for Franklin Pierce.

Thanks! Congrats to you also. Have you heard back from anywhere else yet? And apparently my response to the comment you left me about UMaine never posted, but I was not able to attend the Maine open house. I love Portland, though, and it's also really nice that UMaine gives reduced tuition to New England residents.

My UNH app went under review last week- I got an e-mail saying it usually takes them a week to make a decision and that I should hear back soon, but nothing yet. And my status checker has said 'In Review' at Maine since 11/12. I'm really hoping for some good news soon! As for NESL, I know a decent number of NESL alumn who all have good things to say about the school and are doing well/have good jobs. Granted, most of them are older so the legal market has changed a little since they graduated, but it seems to place well in Boston and surrounding area. I think it all depends on what you wanna do- if you want to go into BigLaw, NESL is not the school to go to. I want to do public interest law so NESL is a good option for me. I will probably go there if I don't get accepted to Maine or UNH.

Thanks for the comment and congrats on your acceptance! Maine is definitely one of my top choices so I plan to wait and see what happens- hopefully I'll get in. Did your friend who got in last year have Maine residency? I know being in-state can be very helpful when applying to state schools. Also, did they get in normally, or just off the waitlist?

Hey! I haven't been up to the UNH campus yet but I'm sure it's nice. I'm more interested in Boston so I'm keeping my fingers crossed for Northeastern!

Congrats!
