Additional info & updates

Looking to practice in the Philadelphia area. I'll be updating with new info on applications and so forth. Feel free to comment!

~July 13, 2007~
-Received a letter in the mail from Seton Hall which offered a fee waiver for my fall application

~August 14~
-Transcript processed by LSAC. It took about 2 weeks from the time I sent it, but it finally got done. I was relieved to find that there were no alterations to my GPA, and everything seems to be in order. It had lots of interesting info on my school though!

~August 15~
-Received a fee waiver from George Mason in the mail. I wasn't origianlly planning on applying to GM, but if I don't have to pay for it I might as well give it a try since it's such a good school. It's a little far geographically from where I am looking, but a good scholarship could help.

~September 17~
-Sent applications online to Rutgers Camden and Newark, Temple, and Villanova

~September 18~
-Sent application online to Seton Hall

~September 25~
-Sent application online to Drexel

~October 1~
-Sent applications to Penn State and George Mason
-2 LOR's received by the LSAC

~October 16~
-I am going to law school!!! Received acceptance letter by e-mail from The Pennsylvania State University School of Law at Dickinson!

~October 23~
-Received fee waiver from UVA and sent in application. I have no idea why they waived my fee, but it's worth a shot. Maybe they just want to reject more people to lower their acceptance rate. Whatever.

~November 2~
-Final letter of recommendation received by LSAC. This prof took forever, but hopefully another decent rec might help.
-Phone calls to Rutgers Camden and Drexel indicated that I was complete at both schools. Now just waiting on Seton Hall.

~November 19~
-Complete everywhere finally. Got the e-mail from Seton Hall, and they dont send decisions until January. Now it's time to wait!

~November 29~
-Accepted at Rutgers-Newark by e-mail!

~November 30~
-Phone call acceptance at Drexel with impressive scholarship offer.

~December 5~
-Acceptance letter by mail from Villanova!

~December 12~
-E-mail acceptance from Rutgers-Camden!

~December 19~
-Accepted by phone at George Mason! I'm really surprised actually since I didn't apply ED or EA. I figured I wouldn't hear from them until next year and by mail.

~January 12~
-Waitlisted at Temple. I was NOT expecting that at all since my numbers were equal or better than some people that have been accepted. It's their loss though. I have a lot of other options.

~January 14~
-Accepted at Seton Hall by regular mail.

~March 22~
-Sent in deposit to Rutgers-Camden. I'm really excited. Message me if you are joining me at RU!

Thanks for the advice. I considered Penn, but I don't think my LSAT will make me very competitive there. Maybe it would be worth a try.

I agree with "Also Applying" you should give Penn a shot. Who knows with a killer PS and some good LOR's anything can happen.

DU offers a fee waiver for applying online or on campus :)

SHU Fee Waiver question
Friday, July 06 2007 at 08:00 PM

I also received a letter this summer from SHU with a fee waiver, but it was for Fall 2007 (the letter was encouraging me to apply to start in Fall 2007...not 2008). Is this the same letter that you got? If so, I assume you just mailed in that fee waiver (even though it was for Fall '07) and it was fine? Thanks for your help!!

Did you a $$ offer from Penn with your acceptance?

Congrats!

Good job on the acceptance. Our numbers are very similar, and I hope to be just as lucky as you are... Hopefully an early acceptance means that you'll get a scholarship!

Philly ?

I was considering the Philly area but heard it is undesirable to live there What do you think of the area?

I honestly just wanted an interesting major to take into law school I hope you get in to UVA!! It seems like everywhere else should be in the bag!

UVA

Best of luck on the cycle! You seem to have a good handle on things, and knowing where you want to end up practicing will be a big boost in selecting a school. My only comment (from personal experience)--make sure you visit UVA (if you haven't already) before giving it any serious consideration. It has a certain aura/atmosphere... and, well, at least it certainly wasn't the right place for me. At any rate, best of luck!

UVA

It wasn't anything all that terrible. The school just didn't seem near as congenial or practical-success driven as some others with comparable rankings. I'm sure the quality of the education is excellent, but I feel that you can get almost the same education for less price at a school with a better emphasis on quality of life and atmosphere (where the students seem to get along and the administration is interested in applicants). Anyway, just my thoughts, if you really are seriously considering it then please visit. Best of luck!

congrats on your early acceptances! I am so envious...

Congrats!

Congrats on Villanova. That's so great! Thinking positive about UVA for you...Mr. Jefferson's school or Benjamin Franklin's town, not a bad decision to have to make.

Rutgers offered 5,000 per year as long as GPA is over 3.5 and I put in 40 hrs. community service. Nice going so far and GL. Your GPA is awesome so you may want to consider Fordham even though it's not in Philly.

thank you!
Saturday, June 30 2007 at 08:00 PM

Your cycle has been great, thank you for the support! It feels good to know I will be going SOMEWHERE!

hey there!
Saturday, June 30 2007 at 08:00 PM

Good to here it is your number one, it is my alma mater! What makes it your number 1? I was really impressed by the great co-ops...

Temple
Saturday, April 08 2006 at 08:00 PM

Yeah, haven't heard from them yet. I am visiting Drexel soon, I'll also let you know how that goes.

liking Drexel...
Saturday, June 30 2007 at 08:00 PM

Honestly, I love it here for UG, and it really is my home. I've talked to a number of current students who LOVE the LS and have gotten really amazing co-ops and fellowships. The quality of the students has also been impressive and the Dean is very in line with the mission of Drexel. I am going to see where else I get in, but DU is def. up there. I like this area, it is very "city" but places like NYC overwhelm me and Philly is more my pace. And for, me the location is perfect. Have you been to visit?

Mason!
Saturday, October 20 2007 at 08:00 PM

Congrats on Mason!! I live 2 minutes from the law school in Arlington. It is SUCH a great/fun area and DC is at your fingertips. I will be very sad to leave. You should visit. Congrats again!

I wouldn't sweat it, you have a jewel with George Mason. Good luck on the rest of your cycle!

How did u hear about SHU
Tuesday, November 27 2007 at 07:00 PM

I'm just curious...how did you hear you were accepted to SHU Law school, was it by snail mail or email? Congrats on your acceptances, I can only hope my cycle is as good as yours.
