Additional info & updates

UPDATE 1-28-08: I'm currently going through the 1L summer associate job hunt process. Since most people are through with the intense part of the application process, I hope this will be helpful.

I have an advantage in looking for positions in Nashville and Birmingham, since these cities do offer 1L positions (Birmingham in particular). I challenge any of you applicants out there to ask your prospective schools about 1L On-Campus Interviews (OCI)--I bet you'll find it doesn't exist at many of them (Vanderbilt has around 40 employers come on campus to interview).

Recruiting/Dispensing information from experience (on my own volition--my law school is not a part of this). I applied in the last cycle, but I wanted to be able to talk to people currently going through the process.

I was accepted at all of these schools last year, but I don't want to skew the numbers or make anyone panic.

I would love to answer questions about the application process, scholarships, and especially about Vanderbilt (where I ended up). I did not post scholarship info, but I'd love to let you know about it--just ask.

I also can give you my general impressions of a few schools on my list... at least two strong opinions of schools I didn't attend, one positive and one negative.

My, my, there are some paranoid people out there. I hope y'all don't retain that paranoia as a 1L, or it might make for a rough first semester!

I really encourage anyone interested in Vanderbilt to look at the Class of 2011 Facebook page. It's run by the current 1L class, and I think you can get some great info. http://vanderbilt.facebook.com/group.php?gid=6634896370

That's a good point. Theres no specific reason, its just that we had to draw the line somewhere. My fiance is applying to 18 med schools which is expensive and time consuming (especially with interviews.) Vanderbilt and Duke are great, but there aren't many safeties in those cities. So we ended up going with bigger cities so that I can apply to a safety in each location (i haven't posted those on my profile yet.) Thanks for pointing that out, though!

Thanks

Thanks for the confidence boost and info. I am very serious about Vandy and UT right now as I wait others. I love Nashville and would love to visit again.

Vanderbilt

Vandy is by far my first choice. I went to Sewanee for undergrad and became familiar with Vandy's reputation and have looked more into it since moving here. This is also where my fiance is based. I'd love to talk more about it and what you think my chances are. Thanks.

thanks for the confidence.

Thanks for the post. As I live near Nashville, Vandy is currently high on my list. I applied to so many schools to keep my options open. I would certainly be open to attending a T14.

Hey, I would be interested in finding out what it was specifically that you did not like about UVA. Thanks!

I would love to go to Vandy - love the area, love the school. If I am fortunate to get a nod - I hope you will show me around!

Thanks! I'm not exactly sure yet. It probably depends on where I end up getting money, and how much. If I don't get anything over 50/60k in scholarships, Ill probably end up at Harvard. Although, I really like UMich as well. My numbers are approximate (so its not quite as far of a stretch as it might seem), but I think a Darrow would be the perfect situation for me. If you have any advice I'd love to hear it! What made you end up at Vandy?

Question

What made you choose vandy over other schools?!? Also, how do you like nashville and the west end area as a law school environment?

Thanks for the encouragement! With a GPA like mine, what do you think I would have to get on the LSAT to have a good shot at admission to Vandy? I'm thinking a 164-165 or so would do it. I visited there when I was a Senior in high school and loved it...the campus is gorgeous, and the law school seems to have such great career implications.

question
Monday, November 19 2007 at 07:00 PM

this may seem like a stupid question, but i am going to ask it anyways: did you disclose traffic tickets in an addendum to the question: Have you ever been convicted of a crime? I have already turned in my app and i am nervous that i might need to send an addendum (even though these have been expunged). thank you for your input!

Would LOVE any advice!

Thanks so much for the message - we really are number twins, and both from SEC schools! Location isn't TOO much of a priority; I will mention that I am a Texas resident, though. I have visited UT, Duke, and Virginia so far, and plan to visit Vanderbilt early next semester. I hope to get my application to Vandy in as soon as I make it home for Christmas break - it seems a little more time consuming than the others, so I had to put a hold on it, sadly. I hope you don't mind my asking, but I would love to hear about your scholarhip offers as well as your two strong opinions. Thanks, I appreciate your help!

informal chats
Thursday, July 05 2007 at 08:00 PM

Thanks for the message! you mentioned informal chats with the admissions office being a good thing...do those have to be in person, or did you mean just call them up to say hi? :-) You mentioned visiting in the next month or so, but since both my wife and I will want to go, we are trying to limit the visits as much as possible until we really have it narrowed down (unfortunately, $$ plays a part in the narrowing!) Thanks for the help!

Man ur a 1L and ur spending ur time back on lsn, cant tell if that is masochistic or egotisitc. lol jk man, thanx for ur input. Vandy must have made a good impression for you to pick them over some of the other top schools that you got into. Big scholarship or just best fit?

thanks for the info!

Thanks so much for all of the info! You have definitely been helpful. Just a quick question - do you happen to remember when you heard about the Vanderbilt scholarship? I am getting anxious... I thought I remembered hearing it would be the end of January or early February, so I was wondering how accurate that is! Thanks for the help again!

Samford

I see you were accepted to Samford which is where I hope to be in the fall. What was your impression last year?
