Additional info & updates

Accepted at SU on 1/8/10! Received packet in the mail on 1/14/10. $9,000 Presidential Law Scholarship awarded for first year's tuition, plus renewable each year if I'm in the top 25% of the class! :D

Decision rendered from Loyola on 01/22/09. I hope the mailed decision comes before I go on vacation!

Rejection letter from Northeastern mailed 01/19/10, arrived 01/22/10. This one kind of surprised me, but I guess I'm just not what they are looking for. Not a big let-down because the school is WAY overpriced and I only would have gone there if they offered me scholarship money (maybe the admissions committee knew this).

Acceptance letter received from Loyola! Letter dated 1/25, arrived 1/28. No scholarship money offered, but still, I now have the option of going to school in sunny California! :)

Acceptance letters from Santa Clara and University of Oregon arrived in the mail while I was on vacation (1/30-2/06)! No cash at Santa Clara, but $8,000 per year from Oregon! I still need to crunch numbers, but I think this knocks Oregon WAY up on my list! Santa Clara might be out of the running now. I follow wads of cash! :) EDIT: Also accepted at Colorado while I was on vacation. No scholarship, so it's pretty much out of the question.

Snail mail acceptance from Lewis & Clark arrived today!!! A whopping $12,000 per year if I keep my grades above a 3.0 or so! I guess that interview went as well as I thought it did ! :o)

02/23/10 Withdrew from Santa Clara and Colorado today. Both are great schools, but I just can't pay full tuition when I have such great scholarship offers elsewhere.

03/08/10 UW updated my status date to 03/06/10 but it still says "In Review." I think this is good news! :) I figure this means I made it through another round of eliminations! Still crossing my fingers!

03/31/10 UW says they mailed my decision letter. I'm already in love with SU, but I will have to give it some more thought if I am accepted at UW. Almost hoping for rejection, just to make my life easier (but not really).

04/02/10 Received small envelope from UW last night. Waitlisted! 180 spots total, 100 on the waitlist. I have to email to retain my spot. I'm going to ask how far down the waitlist I was placed. So grateful and flattered!

04/16/10 Withdrew from Lewis & Clark, Loyola and University of Oregon. It's hard to say "no" to such great offers, but I think I'm ready to say "yes" to Seattle U! :)

Thanks for the information about Seattle U. I'm open to relocating, especially to Seattle since my boyfriend is looking at UW for graduate school, so I wouldn't mind staying in the area for a while. I've actually never been to Seattle, though. I'm hoping to visit sometime in February depending upon where else I get in. Anyways thanks again for the good info about Seattle U, I'm glad to hear it has a great rep in the area.

Congrats on Seattle U!! Did you receive the notification of the $9K with your acceptance packet or in a separate mailing?

Hey, So, I was just offered scholarship money at Seattle, which puts it back towards the top of my list. I'm planning a trip to Seattle in late March/early April, and was wondering how many days you recommend spending there? I have off the week before Easter, so am planning on making the long trip from NY to Seattle sometime during that week. Wasn't sure if 5-days was too long. I most likely will be alone or meeting up with friends of friends, and will probably not rent a car. Any suggestions are welcome! (I was thinking 5 full days, excluding travel days, but was wondering if I can comfortably "experience" Seattle in less days). Thanks!

Thank you!

That is extremely helpful! I'm really pumped to visit now. I literally haven't heard one bad thing about Seattle, it's making me really want to throw caution to the wind and send in my seat deposit now. I only have 5 schools left to hear from, really only 1 of which would change my plans a lot. Right now Seattle is way up on my list because it provides a great middle option for me (less expensive than some higher ranked schools, but still well respected, more expensive than Buffalo but in a way better location and with better grad school options for my boyfriend as well). I just get a very good feeling from the school. I went to a small liberal arts college, and I'm looking for a similar environment in law school. I won't make solid plans to visit until after Feb. 19th (when Berkeley said they would inform me of a decision on my app...long shot, but might as well wait it out). I'll keep you updated about my visit!

Hiya!

Thanks for your lovely greeting-- it was really nice to receive a message from another prospective student! Seattle U made me the same offer that you mention in your post on the 14th. I was super happy to get a merit award, but a bit nervous about having to maintain such a high rank to keep the funding. I am crossing my fingers for some more acceptances, and I am definitely extending the good karma to you. It would be nice to meet up if we end up in the same place :o)

Sorry, new to the system...didn't realize how the email address system works. Now you have mine, too!

I was looking at other people that were accepted to Seattle U, and I thought I would say congrats! It makes it harder to decide if I do get into UW because they offered a good scholarship. Congrats on your scholarship!

Hooray!

Just received news from L&C-- accepted with some good scholarship money :o)

Congrats!!!

Hey! Congratulations on your acceptance to L&C and the scholarship! Are you still more inclined to go to Seattle?

Good Job!

On your Seattle acceptance/scholly and others. I applied to Seattle late in the cycle compared to the other schools on my list but am hoping for the best. I keep hearing good things about the program and was wondering if you had a few cents to chip in.

Thanks for the well-wishing!

Looks like we are both in the same boat in terms of UW. I was in review in Feb...then March. They seem especially unpredictable this time. I am sanguine yet pragmatic about that. I doubt I will attend SU even if I get off the waitlist. The waitlisting was baffling and eyeopening. Maybe it was YP. Maybe they misread 161 as 151 or something like that. As of now it will take nothing less than a mind-blowing scholarship for me to go there instead of retaking the LSAT and trying next cycle if UW falls through. Seattle is a nice place and fortunately I have some friends to help thaw the "Seattle freeze." Good luck!

Hey, I actually missed the event on Friday, I didn't fly out until Saturday, but I think I still got a pretty good perspective of the law school. So far SU and the city of Seattle really stand out in my mind. Also waiting on one more school, USD. Are you planning to do the summer start program, where you take crim law in June? Unfortunately I can't do that because I teach through the end of June. Good luck w/UW, but as a plug for SU, a professor there who used to teach at UW says he thinks the quality of teaching is better at SU. Just some insight!

thanks, and you as well

Thanks! I hope that you have a very fruitful year, as well. Hopefully I will make it to Seattle for a visit, so perhaps we can meet up at some point for a celebratory drink/meal. Do hang on to my email!
