Extra Curricular Information

The stats are close to my actual numbers. I will correct them after the cycle is done. Extracurricular info will also be added at the end, unless you wish to PM me for specifics.

Additional info & updates

12/22: Accepted by the University of Minnesota. Great Christmas present! Ended up with $5,000 initial scholarship.

12/25: Accepted by University of Colorado-Boulder.

12/28: Received my third (and final) LSAT results this morning. I am vindicated: 170 (98th percentile).

Also, received deferral from Cornell University. Hopefully an updated transcript and new LSAT score will change their minds.

1/6: Went complete at Georgetown. Several other status checkers were updated as well.

1/7: Accepted by Duke University School of Law via email. It was awesome to get this first T14 acceptance. I was accepted into the LLM in intl/comp law as well so I'd be a summer starter.

1/9: Filled out and emailed scholarship application for Duke Law.

1/11: Reached decision at Michigan. After an initial deferral from Michigan (early decision), as of today the status checker says they've reached a decision. Hopefully it's a good one.

Also received a letter from George Washington about financial aid, which is curious because I never received an initial "acceptance" letter. In any case, they awarded $105,000 conditional on continued 3.0 GPA. I could also get free housing my first year.

1/12: Received the official George Washington acceptance today with a nice note from the dean about my personal statement.

1/13: Read two emails today. One from BYU asked about a phone/live interview with Dean Hernandez and the other from Boston University said that my application is complete (finally).

1/15: Rejected by Harvard today via email. Although it certainly was unfortunate, it was not unexpected. Oh well. I guess there are other places I'm supposed to go. We'll roll with the punches and keep working hard. Congratulations to everyone who did get in.

1/16: Rejected by Michigan via snail mail today. DR on 1/11; letter mailed on 1/12. Another "oh well."

1/20: Accepted by BYU during a phone interview with Dean Hernandez. We had a very nice conversation and he indicated I'll be receiving a "significant" scholarship.

1/21: Received a phone call from Jason Dugas with the good news: acceptance at UVA. I'm thrilled!

1/22: Was not as thrilled with the University of Chicago rejection email I received today. I knew with 3 LSAT scores and my highest just above the 25th percentile it was a long shot, but I figured I would try anyway. Oh well. I've already got Duke and Virginia. Hopefully Berkeley and Georgetown provide a few more T14 options, but we'll see how it goes.

1/25: Accepted by Washington University in St. Louis via email from Dean Clifford. Also I am under consideration for a Scholars in Law award. WUSTL was a preferred pick several months ago, so it felt good to get this acceptance. Their TLP is pretty sweet as well.

2/5: Being reviewed at Georgetown finally. I've been complete since 1/6.

2/6: Received a nice, personalized letter from Dean Hernandez of BYU. Although it is conditional, I was happy to see the full tuition scholarship offer.

2/17: Updated on my Georgetown status checker. The date finally moved to 2/17. Perhaps a snail mail acceptance or email rejection is forthcoming?

2/18: Rejected by Berkeley today. A huge wave of highly qualified applicants got the ax. I guess that's what happens when over 8,400 apply. I honestly wasn't seriously considering it anyway, so it's not a big deal at all. Based on financial aid, looks like its probably UVA or Duke this fall.

2/22: Updated status checker for Georgetown indicates that a decision has been rendered. If I do not get a rejection email within the next few days, perhaps it is safe to assume an acceptance letter is forthcoming.

2/23: Tried a trick of another admitted student. I was able to access the Georgetown admitted students page, so I think we're in! It's nice to have another T14 acceptance.

2/25: Received official acceptance from Georgetown and scholarship letter from Duke. Duke gave me $67,500 spread evenly over three years and an extra $5,000 for the summer start. I'm very pleased with this competitive offer. WUSTL also sent a "Scholar in Law" scholarship email--$123,000 over three years.

3/4: Received snail mail acceptance from the University of Washington.

3/8: Received Dean's Merit from University of Utah: $85,125 over three years. The University of Colorado-Boulder also offered the Dean's Scholar award--full tuition, unconditional--for the next three years. I'm very grateful for the offers.

3/11: Received UVA's Dean's Scholarship in the mail today: unconditional $75,000 evenly over 3 years. I'm pretty happy! I'll reexamine offers and make a final decision now, but it looks like UVA has a pretty good chance!

3/16: Withdrew from a number of schools today. I'm grateful for the acceptances, but there's better options.

3/24: Withdrew from the rest of the schools today. I've decided to attend the University of Virginia and put down $500 for the first deposit.

3/31: Heard back from Boston University finally. I was placed on the waitlist. I don't think I'll be sending in a LOCI. :)

4/25: Forgot I hadn't withdrawn from Cornell yet. Also, put down 2nd deposit at UVA. I'm ready to go.

Way to go on the LSAT!

Hey congrats on the high lsat score! I was just wondering what your previous scores were? I'm considering another re-take.

I'm getting anxious!

Congrats on Duke! That's great. What are your leanings?

That is fabulous! Congratulations!

GW Offer
Thursday, April 02 2009 at 08:00 PM

Congrats on the GW acceptance. That's a great scholarship! Thanks for the condolences--it stung to get the first rejection, but it's not a big deal. We're headed out to visit some schools this week and are hoping to get some good vibes about which one will be the right place. Does that bring GW up on your list?

Leanings...
Thursday, April 02 2009 at 08:00 PM

Not really yet... We loved Stanford though! We also liked UCLA, despite the tangible difference between the two schools. :)

Harvard
Thursday, April 02 2009 at 08:00 PM

Just noticed.... Sorry. I guess let's just say I know how you feel. :) Your cycle will be just fine.

BYU
Thursday, April 02 2009 at 08:00 PM

Congrats on adding another great school to your list of choices. He said the exact same thing to me over the phone about the scholarship. Dividends of the retake for both of us!

UVA

Excellent! We really are in the same boat as far as schools go! Congratulations!

UVA Scholarship

Thank you and congrats on knocking out the third LSAT!! I know it is a satisfying feeling to perform to your expectations. Dean Trujillo mentioned that the scholarship was for Virginia residents.

Wooo Hoooooo!!!!! Congrats man!

I think movement, if any, is sparce. I have found one user on LSN that was waitlisted and then accepted off the waitlist this cycle. I think that we will know more about how many they will accept off the waitlist farther down the line when it gets closer to deposit time.

UVA

Beautiful campus, T10 school, in the east (to satisfy my wife), my cousin went there, I like their law and business approach... etc, I duno, I may have 'built it up' in my mind too much. Thanks for the 'contribution' on my behalf. You're awesome.

Southeast
Sunday, November 29 2009 at 07:00 PM

Somewhere in the southeast. Jenn's family is from north Florida. You'll never guess who came over last night; Irma Roque e sua familia toda!

Chicago
Thursday, April 02 2009 at 08:00 PM

Thanks :) Any news from your neck of the woods?

Berkeley
Friday, October 09 2009 at 08:00 PM

Sorry about Berkeley. You've had a great cycle, and you've inspired me to sit for the LSAT after some serious study this go round. Good luck with your choice...

Duke
Thursday, April 02 2009 at 08:00 PM

With cost of living differences considered the 60K from Duke would still leave about 17K difference between theirs and UCLAs offer (UCLA being cheaper). It's a nice offer though, and maybe they'll increase it a little in the future. I hope your offer comes soon too. This wait is ... well ... long!

GULC
Thursday, April 02 2009 at 08:00 PM

Congrats on Georgetown! How does that fit into the mix?

Duke
Thursday, April 02 2009 at 08:00 PM

That Duke scholarship is awesome! You deserve it.

UVA
Thursday, April 02 2009 at 08:00 PM

Thanks! I sure hope they can entice you with a similar deal, as it would be fun to be at the same school! We're hoping for even 3-5K in need-based. That would make them our best deal financially, and anything else would be icing on the cake. Even getting off of the Chicago waitlist might not be enough, unless they provide some serious $$. Thanks for the congrats.

Emory
Sunday, November 29 2009 at 07:00 PM

Yeah, Emory is definitely our top pick. I am flying out late march to both Atlanta and Bloomington to get a feel for the Campuses. We shall see!

Duke
Sunday, November 29 2009 at 07:00 PM

That Duke Scholarship is AMAZING! Have you heard anything from UVA in terms of coin?

UVA
Tuesday, November 17 2009 at 07:00 PM

My UVA scholarship came with the acceptance. I know that last year they awarded the smaller amounts (30k-60k) the last week in March though. I think they typically only award the larger scholarships(75k+) initially. I guess the timing of mine was sort of unique. Do you have a top choice at this point?

Sunday, December 27 2009 at 07:00 PM

Hey bud, where do you think you're going to be next year? I'm down to UVA and Ohio State...

Sunday, December 27 2009 at 07:00 PM

I am waiting on the announcement of Ohio State's full-ride/stipend. That is supposed to come out early April. If I get it, I think I'll be in Columbus. If not, probably UVA. You say you enjoyed their campus?

UVA scholarship
Monday, November 09 2009 at 07:00 PM

Thanks Enzo! I got a call yesterday from the director regarding the acceptance + scholarship. I definitely wasn't expecting the second part, let alone the first. Director didn't tell me why I got it, but he mentioned my "hard work"--I'm thinking it was my tough major + high GPA. Nice job with Duke!

Wow, congrats on the UVA scholarship!
Friday, August 14 2009 at 08:00 PM

That's awesome.

UVA vs UCLA
Thursday, April 02 2009 at 08:00 PM

Yeah, the cost, based on my calculations is identical. The visit is going to be the clincher... We're really torn.

UVA
Thursday, April 02 2009 at 08:00 PM

Congrats on the decision! I know you'll do great things there.

Sunday, December 27 2009 at 07:00 PM

Way to go on the UVA $$. I hope you enjoy it!
