Additional info & updates

19 Jan 2010 - Duke status checker went to 'file under review.' Any insight on that from anyone?

20 Jan 2010 - Sent an email to UVA inviting them to review my updated transcript on LSAC. Also told them that UVA was still my top choice. heard back that afternoon from Jason Dugas, stating he would put my email with my file for the other committee members' consideration. Don't know if I even have a chance there?

25 Jan 2010 - Got an invitation to WIlliam and Mary's Accepted Student Weekend activity in March. Sounds like it would be very informational, and if William and Mary is still a top choice, as it certainly is now, I really might consider going with my wife.

26 Jan 2010 - Anxious.

27 Jan 2010 - In at University of Georgia via status checker. Sweet. Geographically its one of the closest to where I want to end up.

29 Jan 2010 - Official Georgia letter came via snail mail. Scholarships will be awarded by the 15th of February.

30 Jan 2010 - So excited to be in at Emory! Accepted via snail mail large white admission packet. This is the highest ranked school I've been accepted to so far. Packet says merit based scholarships will be awarded in Feb with no further necessary application.

01 Feb 2010 - In at Notre Dame! Wow how awesome would that be? I don't know about scholarships though. Do they come later or did I get $0?

02 Feb 2010 - Emailed Notre Dame (to the special email address for admitted students only! :) ) asking if I will still be evaluated for scholarships or if I was already evaluated and received $0.

02 Feb 2010 - Just heard back (within an hour of when I wrote!) from Notre Dame. They DO offer scholarships the same time they offer admittance. I received $0. That means Notre Dame isn't really an option I guess. Bummer. It was fun while it lasted.

04 Feb 2010 - In at Iowa via email. Dean Carolyn Jones said I would receive snail mail in a few days.

Also, I emailed Notre Dame again this morning basically saying 'Are you sure I didn't receive any scholarships?' Melissa emailed back and said she reviewed my file and all though I have a very competetive application, this has been an exceptionally competitive cycle. She also said people are not being admitted who would normally be admitted and people are not receiving scholarships who would normally receive scholarships. She said she would be sure my application was re-evaluated if more scholarship funds became available.

06 Feb 2010 - Got official Iowa acceptance via snail mail. No scholarships awarded yet. It was personalized with a note saying that the admissions committee enjoyed my personal statement.

10 Feb 2010 - In at Indiana via email. Also came with an invitation to me and a guest to go to a fancy restaurant for dinner. The director of recruiting will be there along with Alumni and other accepted students. Sounds great. I think I'll go with my wife. The rest of the admissions packet was 'put in the mail today.'

17 Feb 2010 - Received School of Law Scholarship $5K / yr and a tuition equalizer scholarship $15K for first year at Univ of Georgia. Way more exited about the FULL tuition offer from Indiana! I only applied there cause they sent me a fee waiver, and as of now it's our best option! Crazy how things work out.

18 Feb 2010 - Status checker at Georgetown went DR. I'm trying not to get my hopes up...

19 Feb 2010 - Out at Georgetown! My first rejection! They sent an email the day after my status checker went to DR. Doesn't sting as much as I thought it would, but Georgetown would have been awesome. Oh well!

23 Feb 2010 - I got a big white envelope snail mail last night from Emory, with the $72,000 scholarship package. That seems like it's a pretty popular number they have been throwing around. I am so grateful for it. Emory is our top choice for geography and school rankings. I hope we can make it happen financially.

26 Feb 2010 - Vanderbilt status checker notified 'decision mailed date' as today. Might see something next week. I wasn't able to interview there so I am not too optimistic.

1 Mar 2010 - Duke status checker says 'Decision made; you will be notified soon" Not even going to get my hopes up for this one. Two hours later, got the email. Out at Duke, as suspected.

4 March 2010 - Waitlisted at Vanderbilt. Stupid Vanderbilt.

30 Mar 2010 - Visited both Emory and IU. Loved Emory, but loved IU more, plus the full was just too hard to turn down. Feeling great about my decision. Glad it's over! I'm going to be a Hoosier!

That's a great option.

No kidding!

It's hard not to get anxious. I'm wondering how much longer they'll keep pouring over applications trying to make decisions. In some ways, it would almost be preferable to get rejected at a bunch of places to make the decision and certainty of our future easier. Weighing multiple, competitive offers from several of the best schools is probably my preference though. :)

Thanks! I appreciate it. Hopefully there'll be even more good admissions news for both of us over the next bit.

UVA

Thanks! I appreciate it. Do you know anything about waitlist movement there?

Well, I hope there is some movement for your sake. It'd be awesome if you got in. Why was UVA your top choice in the first place anyway?

My follow-up to your UVA email

Just so you know, I promptly sent Jason Dugas $20 as a personal "alumni contribution," conditioned on your acceptance. You'll probably get the good news in your email today. :) Seriously though: I think you'll be fine.

Georgia!

Congrats! Georgia is a good school! Are you planning on ending up in the Atlanta market (I ask because of your 1/27 post)?

Emory!
Friday, December 11 2009 at 07:00 PM

Congratulations! Emory is a great school! A degree from there would be perfect for where you want to end up. Plus, there's a good chance you'll get a decent scholarship there too. Keep us posted!

Hey! Congrats on the ND acceptance! Too bad they didn't flash the cash, but at least you got in. Good luck with the rest of the cycle!

Who cares about Georgetown anyway?

Sorry to hear the bad news. Don't worry about it--you've got lots of other great options to choose from.

Sweet Emory schoolly!

Congrats on the sweet deal from Emory! That's a pretty competitive offer. Is that your top choice at this point? For your career goals, Emory would be awesome.

Sorry to hear

Hey man--sorry to hear about Duke. They don't know who they're missing out on. In any case, you've got some other great options. Any top choices now?

It's great to see you pick Indiana - I'll be there next year, and I'm glad too see very qualified people such as yourself end up there, too.
