I say if Iowa gives you in state tuition... take it! It's a good school. I am out of state at both Iowa and Wisc, so I am chosing based on location. WISC is closer to my hometown Chicago. If I was a resident, I would chose Iowa in a heart-beat!
Did they email you about being accepted?
Actually it was weird, they knew I was a local BYU undergrad, so they invited me to speak to them in their office. But yes, they usually email, and they are still accepting a few people. Apparently, the next round will be around April 16-April 22. Good Luck
i got an e-mail first and a letter a couple of days later.
I'll trade you Tulane for BYU!
Thanks for the message. I had no idea I could email profs. As of right now, I only have one ps...a version of it at least. I couldnt get your email, but here I send you mine. Also, Congratulations on the acceptances. If I money..or fee waivers ... I would apply to Illinoios and BYU too.
Whoever made the above comment is grossly intolerant. He is also obviously ashamed of his ignorance because he didn't leave his name with his comment. (not to mention that he doesn't know how to spell yuk). He is probably still sore because he wasn't accepted to OSU. Can any of you people see why someone like that was not accepted to law school? It should be pretty obvious. Please keep your comments about Mormons, GLBT's, and URM's tolerant on my page. Thank you, Gjb9
Will, You don't have to be Mormon, but it helps because the culture is so strong there. I visited Notre Dame a few times and I found the same thing to be true there as is true at BYU. (I have never been to Baylor...but I hear Yeshiva is similar to BYU as well). You need to follow their honor code, but if you privately break the drinking/smoking thing out of habit, they usually aren't that strict unless your Mormon. However, if you get drunk and have sex with a seventeen year old (like three football players at once did last year to the same girl), then you will be prosecuted much tougher than a regular school will. You can't get coffee on campus, but usually people do one of two things: 1. stop drinking it for a few years or 2. drink it in the privacy of thier own home (assuming that your Mormon roommates are cool with it). I think the biggest drawback is the dominant Christian Right at BYU. there is a wider range of political thought than you would think, but there are a lot of close minded people. One great thing about BYU is this: The students don't mess around. They are eager to learn and they kick ass. seriously. The faculty is a very good teaching faculty--they might not have the best credentials, but they certainly teach well. Mingling with the students is also intellectually stimulating and a great experience.
if you are so tolerant... what is wrong with the Christian Right that it is a drawback??
That is a tough question because I am interested in healthcare law. SLU is awesome at healthcare law. I was admitted to a dual degree program that would also give me a degree in health services administration (or hospital admin.). the Dual degree from SLU is really strong there. Here are the problems with that offer: 1. What if I hate healthcare law? 2. SLU has a 15% attrition rate. That's right 15%!!! That is too high to be medical reasons or financial, I checked into it and the school helps them out the back door (if you know what I mean...). That is a huge red flag. Having said that: I think you understand why Wisconsin is a higher choice for me. Iowa, with its ability to give me in-state tuition, is also a great choice.
