Thanks. My experience was not typical. On Monday I received a letter in a business sized envelop. The "letter" was a "Memo to: Incoming Students" from the Dean and then went on to say how great Tulane is and why I should go there. This didn't seem like a normal acceptance letter, so I called (after the Mardi Gras holiday) and spoke with somebody in the Office of Admissions. She told me that I should have received an email first (they had the wrong email address) and then a "big packet" in the mail, and then the letter that I received. So, they are resending the packet and I'll let you know what it looks like when I get it.
Finally received the Tulane acceptance letter on 2/12. The letter was dated 2/2. It was a large white envelope with "Something More" printed on the outside.
Dan, I received a letter a week or so after my acceptance letter.
I don't remember the enevelope, but it was only 1 sheet of paper, so I'm sure it was in a small business-sized envelope. It says: "We have placed your application on our waiting list." There are abt. 200 people on it, and it is unranked. Of my (now 2) waitlists, I think I have the strongest shot at IU and would go there over Tulane. I'd really like to stay in the midwest, but we'll see. Hope this helps.
Thanks for the info on IU. I didn't receive the decision letter today, so I'm pretty sure that means I'll get it Monday. I'd better, considering Tuesday is the last day to register for the June LSAT and if I didn't get in there, which I'm sure I didn't, because I'm pretty sure the best chance I had was a waitlist there, even though I received 3 letters to apply from them, I'm going to have to re-take the LSAT a third time and wait until next year. I hope we both get in, one way or the other. Did you already send a deposit to Tulane? IU doesn't require a seat deposit, one of the few schools that doesn't. But that's probably why it's really hard to get off the waitlist, because people can change their mind up to the week school starts without a deposit or penalty!
I am kind of kicking myself for not applying there. Seriously consider it because the more I learn about it the more I think I made a wrong choice by not applying there.
I'm leaning towards not going to L&C. Although the northwest is where I'd eventually like to end up, I'm not to the point where I'd sacrifice a much better school for it. The only thing I've heard from IU is their initial letter.
Thanks for the message, congrats on TULANE. But you made me wonder. I thought that only puerto ricans that grew up in the US were considered URMs. I grew up, and still live, in Puerto Rico. Am I really a URM? I know that Im not considered international, due to the political relation of PR and the US. But, I read some of the Michigan case and it only talked about puerto ricans from the US. As you may see, I am very confused. Anyway, the real question is.....Do you know if theres a book or a Web page that defines what a URM is? I would appreciate your input on the matter. I just want to be clear on the def. of a URM. I still dont know if I want to disclose my race. I dont want them to reject be just bc english is not my first language. thanks, Mdu20 MDU20
First of all, CONGRATS... Now, your comments about Cooley have been very helpful. Thanks. Do you know whether or not any of your friends at Cooley have considered transferring? If so, what are the odds of getting into another law school? I live in VA and do not want to stay at Cooley. However, I feel as though I'm stuck, at least for my first year...
Congrats on Tulane! Its a great school. Can you describe the letter ? ( i.e. big envelop, small envelope, etc) thanks and congrats again.
