Additional info & updates

10/26/09 - Most of my apps in, should have the rest in by the end of the month. Hoping for T14, or significant $$ elsewhere. I feel this cycle is going to be very unpredictable. Got status checker emails today from Chicago (seems like a long shot), UVA (complete already), GULC (below their LSAT median but still hopeful), Northwestern (pretty unsure here, I have WE though) and Duke (I'm on priority track)

11/04/09 - In at Duke. Great feeling to have an acceptance so early, especially from such a great school.

11/08/09 - Updated all the sent/received/complete info. Wondering when my next decision will come; probably not for awhile.

11/24/09 - Interview requested at Georgetown with alum. Wondering why they want to interview with me.

12/01/09 - Interviewed with GULC. I think it went OK, though I'm not sure I expressed myself as well as I could have.

12/02/09 - Interviewed with Northwestern alum today. Second interview in as many days; I think it went well! I liked my interviewer a lot.

12/03/09 - In at Fordham via the status checker!

12/08/09 - Held for regular decision at Texas. Darn.

12/08/09 - Went complete at Northwestern yesterday. GULC's status checker still has not processed my interview though.

12/09/09 - In at Washington University in St. Louis via e-mail.

12/10/09 - Just got the acceptance call from Boston University. The admissions lady was really sweet.

12/17/09 - In at Cornell via call to the admissions office! My status checker still has not changed from complete, but I saw other people getting decisions without a change so I caved and called. Glad I did!

12/18/09 - Received BU acceptance package with $20,000 per year scholarship offer.

12/19/09 - In at BC!

12/19/09 - Nice mailing from Duke encouraging me to attend along with a journal article about Richard Posner.

12/20/09 - Received Cornell acceptance package. I'm really liking the idea of Cornell right now.

12/20/09 - Received Fordham scholarship offer. I actually can't tell if they mean 25k per year or over three years. I'm gonna be optimistic for now but will call them on Monday.

12/23/09 - "Preferred" WL Georgetown. Was kind of expecting this since my somewhat awkward interview.

01/05/10 - In at Cardozo with a full ride. I think it's GPA-contingent though.

01/07/10 - Went to decision at Michigan. Admitted students site gives me a big error message when attempting to log in (not the usual red text). Apparently the site works for other people, so I'm thinking rejection.

01/08/10 - In at UMich! Wasn't expecting that at all after yesterday!

01/12/10 - Waitlisted at Penn. Disappointing, but hardly shocking.

02/04/10 - Held at Northwestern today.

02/10/10 - Waitlisted at UVA and Chicago today. Wonder what took the former so long to make a decision; I'm thinking maybe since my GPA was 3.85 and they seem very concerned with keeping up their 3.85 median. Chicago was a reach, and I'm gonna send in some stuff to try to get off the waitlist. Just have to hear from the New York powerhouses (likely WLs I'm sure) and my cycle is done. The fact that no school has rejected me yet makes me think that my application was just about as good as it could have been considering my lack of softs and mediocre undergrad.

02/11/10 - Placed on "reserve" at Columbia. Definitely better than a rejection at least.

02/18/10 - Rejected at Berkeley. Very much expected at this point.

02/25/10 - Big shoclarship (and flash drive) from WUSTL. Initially tempting, but I don't think I can take it over Michigan.

03/01/10 - Additional rec letter sent in to Chicago and Columbia. It can't hurt.

3/15/10 - In at Texas after previously being held. Nice surprise there. They said a merit offer will come within a week or so. If it's significant they'll definitely jump into the mix.

03/22/10 - 48K scholarship offer from Duke. I inexplicably did not send in the scholarship form until March 1st (I was admitted in early November). I'm lucky I got anything at all. Michigan is the leader right now (going to ASW this week), but I'm gonna have to really consider Duke.

04/13/10 - Withdrew from a bunch of schools. Just leaving open a couple of waitlists and schools I haven't heard from yet regarding admission or money. 95% UMich right now though.

04/17/10 - Deposited at Michigan! I am going to be a Wolverine in all likelihood.

04/26/10 - Waitlisted at Northwestern. Happened 4 days ago and I had no idea and wouldn't have known if it weren't for a random status check.

04/26/10 - Waitlisted at NYU. Well I guess the cycle is over now.

05/06/10 - Cornell matched my offer from Michigan, but they were gonna need to do more than that. I do appreciate how helpful the admissions office was about contacting me after the deposit deadline had passed (I took no action since I never heard anything about money. They emailed me, I told them why I didn't, and they promptly conducted an aid review.

We have similar stats, so just wanted to say hi and good luck this cycle!

I know...so frustrating to think just a couple of questions on one test might be the difference in getting into a law school of my dreams or not:/. Hopefully they'll see something in our apps that will encourage them to take a chance on us:). And Harvard is pretty much throwing $97 down the tube, but I figure that's all I've got to lose by trying!

thanks!

i think i've heard from all i'm going to hear from for a while though, but i'm happy enough about it :) congrats on duke, and good luck to you too!

Wow, I'm blind. I only just saw your comment on my page; I guess I never really scroll down that far. Thanks, and good luck on your cycle too. I hope I am the start of something grand for UVA acceptances. :D

Congrats!

Congrats on Cornell! Did your status update say your decision was reached on the 14th? That's when mine changed, and I'm anxiously awaiting the letter.

Grats on Mich! I figured you were in. :D

Saturday, September 26 2009 at 08:00 PM

Mich is my #1 right now, even though it's so cold up there. I'll be going to the first ASW and I expect that's where I'll matriculate (unless someone at Columbia gets drunk, admits me, and gives me a Hamilton or something). Berkeley's driving me crazy, though. Were you in the FR list yesterday?

Saturday, September 26 2009 at 08:00 PM

Meh, I think Berkeley's just lost all our applications and is too embarrassed to admit it. They're probably going to wait a bit longer, pretending to deliberate, then let us all in so they don't have to tell us the truth. ;)

Congrats

on all the acceptances! Which way are you leaning?

Thursday, June 25 2009 at 08:00 PM

I know right? WUSTL wasn't on my short list, but now I have to reconsider. I'm too debt averse to go anywhere without $, so Michigan's out for me (plus the SO needs somewhere with career options that aren't that prevalent in Ann Arbor. Short list now: UT, GW, WUSTL, Gtown and Vandy (depending on what I hear about $ from the last two).

Saturday, October 17 2009 at 08:00 PM

Yeah, it hasn't been what I expected, but I'm not too worried at this point. I'm on the preferred WL at GULC and held at NU, like you, so I'm really hoping one of those will come through. Good luck to you!

Go Mich! However, Duke vs. Michigan isn't a bad decision to have to make! congrats!

Saturday, September 26 2009 at 08:00 PM

Yep, mailed off my deposit to Mich this morning. Duke's a good school but I want to get out of the South, I'm tired of being somewhere where you need a car, and the more I thought about it the less I wanted to start law school less than a month after graduation. So basically my reasons were entirely personal and not really a judgment on the school at all. I loved Mich's ASW. Everyone was fantastic and it really helped cement my image of the school.

Saturday, September 26 2009 at 08:00 PM

Yea, I think I will be in the LC. The convenience factor outweighs the lack of kitchen, which was my only concern. How about you?

Michigan

Hmm...thanks for the tip. Maybe I should try and negotiate something with Michigan. What did you think of the ASW?
