Additional info & updates

2/20 - received small envelope from uar- little rock informing me that I was deferred. I was sort of suprised looking at their numbers and by all the correspondence that I had received from them. Also received a call from Ohio Northern University letting me know I had been accepted.
2/23 - received small letter from st thomas university
(miami) informing me I was accepted along with an incoming merit scholarship of $12,000/yr. This is a school that highly intrigues me as I was quite impressed with their tour and student information session.
2/26 - received a large ornate package from valparaiso with acceptance information.
2/27 - receoved a call from western new england accepted with a 17,000/yr merit scholarship
2/28 - received a small envelope from university of miami - placed on hold with my file to be re - considered before the end of april. i am glad i was not rejected and plan to send a follow-up letter of interest as this is my # 1 school.
3/05 - received an e-mail informing me of acceptance to loyola -no. and that package containing acceptance info will be coming in the mail. this is one of my top 3 or 4 law schools (miami and then stetson/fiu or loyola n.o.).
- also received a letter from ave maria saying i was waitlisted which was funny because i never sent them my certification letter, application fee and withdrew 1 week after sending out my lsac application. (which i sent by accident thinking it was a fee waiver school)
3/07 - received acceptance from roger williams (although i was considering this school due to its maritime law program, recently have been hearing only negative things about the school) and merit scholarship of 5,000. also received my official letters of acceptance from loyola - n.o. and western new england.
3/8/07 - received 2 small letters from F.I.U. acceptance and an invitation to the entering class reception. acceptance also had a touching personal note attached which was a very nice touch. This school is definately just below UM as local and most importantly IN-STATE TUITION.
3/9 - e-mail telling me i'm accepted to texas wesleyan
3/17 - received official acceptance from texas wesleyan plus 5k scholarship. visited FIU - very impressed with the new building, faculty and direction of FIU + in state tuition. really have narrowed this down between UM, FIU and Stetson. probably will go to fiu due to in state tuition and location.
3/20 - email acceptance from fl coastal. also waitlisted at miami
3/22 - received official acceptance from florida coastal/ still waiting on hofstra, Quinnipiac, stetson. pacific and golden gate. i don't understand how these schools can wait so long in the process to respond ?
3/24 - decided that i am going to FIU. i can't pass up the cost and i really like the school. i plan to send my seat deposit monday, glad all this stress is over and most of all I'M GOING TO LAW SCHOOL
4/1 - deadline for FIU seat deposit. checked tracking on my seat deposit it was received 3/27.

Saw you were from Orlando as well. Grats on the accepts so far. Got a top choice in mind?

St. Thomas

I did not consider St. Thomas for this cycle. However, I applied there late in the cycle last year and got rejected. To be honest, if I don't get in at FIU and/or UALR, I will have a tough decision to make between Tulsa and Barry. Barry seems like the most logical choice given the scholarship award, but Tulsa seems to have much better reach and name recognition (Barry's law school is still relatively new, which means a small alumni base). On the up side, Barry's main campus is in Miami...though I'm not sure how well that translates into job opportunities in Miami for Barry Law grads. As for Stetson, yes, they appear to be trying to elbow their way into Tier 2 this cycle. LOTS of people who fit well within their historical LSAT/GPA spread are getting deferred this cycle, if not turned down outright. I'm talking to more than a few pissed off Stetson applicants right now. From what I understand, Stetson's reach is severely limited outside of Central FL, so I'm not sure what all the fuss is about. I never considered Loyola N.O. because of the situation there with storm rebuilding, crime, etc. Have you checked into those things?

Thanks for leaving a comment. I tried leaving a message before but it's not here so I'm trying again. It's good you have variety in the schools you applied to. I just felt it wasn't worth the time, effort or money to bother with schools like Nova or St. Thomas. The truth is, if FIU didn't exist and UM didn't take me, I'd be retaking the exam. But because I happen to be lucky enough to apply with FIU being around, I think I'll count my blessings and move on forward. I know that the law school you go to doesn't matter eventually, but I still worked hard in undergrad and didn't want to just settle for anything, if you know what I mean. It sounds pompous probably, but it isn't intended to be... I just don't want the nights I spent studying for finals and stuff to not be counted for anything when I attend a school that takes people with a 2.0 gpa. Eitherway I hope to see you in either school, and we may just be classmates! Keep in touch.
