Additional info & updates

FIU PROS:
-I like FIU for the potential it has in becoming another strong Florida state law school. (Incoming Med School, tons of funding behind it, Fully ABA accredited in the fastest possible time, high Bar passage rates and low attrition)
-Law schools don't matter after your first job (if you plan on eventually opening your own practice).
-Price... I tried hard and am still trying, but so far I don't qualify for instate tuition for the first year, but I will be paying instate after that.
-They are somewhat selective and continue to increase their standards every year (not that I'm top stock but, hey, I'll take what I can get)... moreso than Nova, Barry, A&M, St. Thomas.
-Facilities are brand-spankin new, and the people are all smiles.
-Class size is tiny, so I think I'll learn a lot more, but network a lot less. =/
FIU CONS:
-I just don't want to be dead by the time it finally becomes a strong school.
-Location... wish it wasn't so west. Whatever, 15 min from Coral Gables, I won't complain. Rent is probably cheaper here anyway.

RANDOM FACT: Did you know that the city of Sweetwater, located just outside the FIU gates, was originally inhabited by retired Russian midgets from the circus?

UMiami PROS:
-I like UMiami for its reputation & location, but not for its price. Their campus is nice, but somewhat dated as expected.
UMiami CONS:
-Deferral means they don't like me back.

RANDOM FACT: Did you know that the people of Miami are terrible drivers? In fact, it takes over an hour to go just five miles. And sometimes, if you are at a red light, they will crash into you.

Walked in and handed my Letter of Continued Interest to UMiami Admissions staff.

I think FIU is going to be huge as well. Is that where you are planning on going?

Yes

So far yes, FIU is the (backup) plan. It's up to UMiami... they can make my choice either very easy or very difficult. I'm just surprised that not many people know of, or are applying to FIU. This year the applications were about 1200, of those 120 got accepted for full-time.

Congrats on your FIU acceptance! I'm impressed with the school, but also concerned about their smaller network of alumni. I'm still waiting to hear from Miami, so you and I are basically in the same boat.

fiu v miami

i am in the same boat as you except as far as cost. i get in state tuition but still i am glad you understand that law schools don't matter after your first job. hope to see you at miami or fiu.

What?!

Sweetwater used to be inhabited by Russian midgets? I don't know if you're kidding or not, but that comment made my day lol. And yes, 99% of Miami drivers deserve to have their driver's licenses revoked.

help!

if it had to be a choice btw Nova and FIU, money aside, why FIU? i need a lot of help deciding!

UM

I am deferred at UM and hoping to hear from them soon. In my opinion, even thinking about FIU over UM is crazy. The career prospects out of UM are far far better. Congrats.

For me, I am in at my top school (SMU), but it is part-time. I would prefer full-time at ASU and Miami, which I am waiting on both repsonses. My chances at ASU are anemic, but Miami I actually think I have a shot with the additional material that I submitted.

so... are you?

I am reading your profile. Does that mean you're getting ass raped? How is it?
