deferrals
Monday, August 08 2005 at 08:00 PM

Saw your comment at RubyTuesday... Most schools let you defer ON THE CONDITION that you not apply to anywhere else meanwhile. Usually, you must withdraw any acceptances or applications still in process elsewhere. It's use it or lose it--either you're happy with your results this time around, and you defer because you need to wait a year for some reason--or you let it all go and start again next year. The schools won't let you hedge your bets like that--it weeds out the disinterested looking for the safe bet...

GMU sent me an e-mail they want me to call to their office and I called today. Dean of admission said they accepted me and will send a letter today. Good luck to you!

W&M Waiting List
Wednesday, May 25 2005 at 08:00 PM

I did many things. I sent a letter of continued interest as soon as I was offered a spot on the waiting list. Then roughly every two weeks I did something else. First, I made an appointment with Dean Wixson, sat in on a class, and did the tour. Then I got a former employer to send in an additional letter of recommendation. I then set up an appointment with Dean Shealy. Then I recruited a former W&M Law graduate who is a friend of the family to send a letter in on my behalf. Finally, I sent an updated copy of my resume once I got a new job this summer. All along the way, I made it clear that I would attend if offered a spot. I also made a good case about why W&M was my first choice--a reasoned argument. Much like a political campaign, I stayed on message and made the case at every step of the way--stressing my strong points like a beating drum.

Best of luck to you. Maybe I will see you in Williamsburg this August! Let me know if there's anything else you need.

Thank you so much!

Thank you for your sincere response. Maybe I was too passive. It seems that I have to do my best to get off the waitlist. I also hope to see you in Williamsburg!

W&M Waiting List

I never sent any letters of continued interest or anything like that. I received an email from Dean Wixson a few weeks ago asking if I was still interested, and replied and said that I was. He called me a few days ago to see if I was still interested, and hinted that if I sounded more committed there would be an offer made. I visited the school yesterday and met with the Admissions Dean who made a formal offer. I still haven't made my final decision though!

Thank you

with that GPA you could've at least waited another year to reapply and just have taken prep classes to boost your LSAT score..you would've easily gotten in to alot of those schools you got rejected from.
