Extra Curricular Information

Now that the cycle is over, a bit more info on me:

I got one letter of recommendation from a YLS JD prof with whom I took courses during undergrad. The other was from an instructor in a foreign language course. I am sure that both of them were very good.

I worked full time throughout undergrad while taking a full load of coursework. My first year was at community college and I subsequently transferred to a state school. I financed my education and living expenses through a combination of employment, grants, and loans.

4.0 GPA from my degree granting institution. I graduated Phi Beta Kappa, though the election did not happen until after I applied to law school. Various academic honors and scholarships.

I think my personal statement was unique and well written. It's probably what helped overcome a mediocre lsat, along with race.

Comments/flames welcome!

Dates and scores are approximate
NU Fee waiver. Did not interview or write optional essays for NU.

UCLA- email acceptance notification

NYU- large manila envelope, Dean's Awar d Scholarship offer after completing NYU's finaid application

USC acceptance in large white envelope w/ scholarship offer enclosed. Amount to be determined. 3/15/06- Full scholarship offer! Wow. I still withdrew, though.

CLS "Reserve" in regular size cream envelope. Promptly sent in the card to withdraw.

About a week lapsed between the interview and acceptance at HLS. Needless to say, I'm quite surprised as I thought I was an autoding. Nice binder came in the mail a few days after acceptance. Visited for the March admit weekend and was quite impressed. I think I'll end up in Cambridge this fall, unless Yale or Stanford admit me and change my decision when I visit.

Boalt email acceptance 3/20. Very surpised my cycle has gone this well so far. Closing in on the last two decisions, and looking forward to an end to the waiting game.

4/24- Yale waitlist! I'm pretty happy about this, though my chances of getting in from it are extremely low and I'm probably going to Harvard either way. It's sort of a rejection, but one that doesn't hurt as much. My application cycle has exceeded my wildest expectations.

4/28- Got my SLS ding! I'm headed to Cambridge!

Hey man. Congrats on Harvard. Now that you are in would you mind withdrawing your application from Columbia? I'm dying to get in there. Forgive me if I'm incorrectly assuming you'd rather go to Harvard than Columbia.

i guess i thought my lsat was too low, even for a hispanic applicant, given HLS' insane lsat stats. Glad I was mistaken.

thanks
