Extra Curricular Information

Rhodes Finalist, on the board of two non-profits, officer in a number of campus organizations, TA for an intro course, honors thesis.

Left the LSAT knowing that I had scored WELL below my practice average... people convinced me not to cancel. Leaving this up to help anyone else in the same situation make up their mind.

Additional info & updates

Sent is the day I submitted via LSAC. Received is the date LSAC sent a copy of my report. Decision is the date I received word (in the case of YLS, the date I received the intial waitlist), not the date a decision was sent.

Any scholarship data is the total award (scholarships, waivers, work stipends,) over three years.

Other fee waivers in the top 30: Cornell, USC, GW, W+L, Emory.

9.2-- The cycle is officially 100% over--email from YLS at about 11:30 am, releasing the few remaining stragglers from the waitlist. HLS it will stay!

8.6-- Still on the YLS waitlist. Not planning on withdrawing. Dreaming/nightmaring of the scenario where I'm moved into a cozy room in Cambridge and the call comes to pack up and move to New Haven.

5.3-- Waitlisted at Stanford-- USPS to my home address. Withdrawn shortly thereafter.

4.26-- Sent in my deposit at HLS, sent in confirmation that I want to remain on the YLS waitlist. Now, if only Stanford would give me SOMETHING so this freakin' cycle can end.

4.25-- After over a month of NO activity on the law school front, waitlisted via email at YLS, 11:23 PM. Not sure what I'm going to do about it.

3.19-- Waitlisted via email at UMich at about 9 am today. Withdrew around noon.

3.9-- Withdrew from WashU this morning.

3.2-- Standard sized envelope in US mail--in at WashU! Letter dated 2.23. Ah, campus mail, how you slow everything WAY down.

3.1-- Withdrew today from UPenn, UChicago, UVA, NYU, and Boalt.

2.13-- Harvard? Are you freaking kidding me? Toby Stock called at around 11:30 am!!!!

2.12-- Admitted at Penn?? (I never wrote the "Why Penn" essays, hence the confusion.) Enormous blue accordion folder with tons of stuff in it... admissions letter dated 2.7. Oooh, free book!!

2.6-- Phone interview with Dean Stock from Harvard just after 3 pm... it's out of my hands now... lots of finger-crossing/praying/indiscriminate hoping.

2.2-- Phone call email from Harvard just after 3 pm. Phone call from UChicago at about 4 pm EST!!!! Physical stuff should be in the mail in the quasi-near future???

2.1-- Standard size envelope placing me on "reserve" at Columbia... withdrew this afternoon.

1.29-- Letter from Duke (arrived 1.25, I was out of town,) with offer of $20k/yr. Dean's Scholarship. Also, withdrew from ND this afternoon.

1.23-- Harvard hold email, 4:22 pm.

1.22-- Large white envelope via USPS from Dean Press at UIUC... $25k/yr. scholarship!!! Also, not sure what I'm procrastinating, but I withdrew today from Duke, GULC, Northwestern, UIUC, and Vanderbilt.

1.19-- Email from ND Dean Moriconi, with admission and offer of a 20K/yr. fellowship!!! Apparently writing "militant atheist" in their religion blank DOESN'T disqualify you from admission! (ALSO: NEVER RECEIVED A COMPLETE NOTICE.)

1.17-- UVA letter from Dean Trujillo, dated 1/9, with mention of a possible Dean's Scholarship!!! Also, Vanderbilt letter from Dean Morton dated 1/5! Good day for me at southern law schools!

1.9-- UVA emailed me to inform me that they've mailed my decision... allegedly this means good news! If it does, it also means a few more withdrawal calls... back to my mailbox sometime Tuesday, (1.16) and I'm hoping there will be a few surprises!

1.5-- Still won't be near my mailbox for another two weeks, but got a good bit of news by email today... Dean Lee from Northwestern emailed me at about 4:30 pm EST to offer me a spot in the class of 2010!

1.3--Weird email from Michigan today... the consensus on LSD is that it's not a strict deferral, but closer to a Harvard "hold" letter. I didn't write the "Why Michigan" essays, so this is not surprising.

12.13--Exam this afternoon... so it's obviously an excellent time to start calling schools to withdraw from their incoming class! Only William and Mary so far, though I'll be making a few of these calls over the next month or so as I narrow down options.
12.11--NYU acceptance!! Priority mail, manila envelope containing purple folder with acceptance letter (dated 12.6,) intent form, contact form, information packet, and laptop info.

12.07--Boalt acceptance email from Dean Tom, sent at around 2:30 pm EST.

12.04--William and Mary, despite their fervent claims of not being rolling admission, arrived today in standard size, US post office packed priority mail envelope. Package contained admission letter from Dean Reveley dated 11.30, explanatory note from Dean Shealy, offer of fellowship from Dean Shealy (waiver of out-of-state costs, additional $3000 per year, guaranteed annual stipend of $4000 for work in law library/research,) invitation to open house, packet of dates and forms, bound welcome booklet.

11.30--Georgetown arrived today. Regular size beige envelope with admissions letter with handwritten note from Dean Cornblatt on bottom, and flyer about accepted student events. Letter dated 11.27.

11.27--Duke arrived today... I'm going to law school! Acceptance in Duke folder in large white envelope via priority mail. Letter dated 11.22, included supplementary information, another viewbook, a bookmark, a copy of Duke Law magazine, and possibly some things I'm forgetting?

11.22--Heard today via email that Duke (Priority Track application) has mailed their decision to me. It should be in my box when I get back to school after the break!

You have some fabulous choices. It must feel pretty amazing. I suppose you're the first on LSN to have been accepted by Harvard after being deferred. I got deferred recently and I am waiting anxiously for some good news. Did you send them any materials after you got the hold email?

Congrats!

I was in Boris's for three and a half years... we started the comedy festival my junior year (I know, I'm so old). Also BET, Tymp, and the UTC board. (More proof of my advanced age -- I produced the last show ever staged in Nathan Seifer, which used to be where the student center is now.)

H or C would change everything (fingers crossed), but right now it's down to NYU vs. Penn. I'm probably sending in the rest of my withdrawals today. And yay False Ad! I had a lot of friends in the troupe.

yea, it's my first choice that I think I have a good chance of getting into (HYS are a joke, and Columbia has already given me the "only if we don't like anyone else better")... 2 more hours of hope left!
