Extra Curricular Information

EC:
Four year ROTC academic scholarship.
Senate internship after my junior year.
No clubs or societies or volunteer work or anything fun. Lots of ROTC stuff.

LOR:
One from the Senator for whom I interned. One from my first Company Commander in the Army. I think they were good, but I never read them or any one else's so I really have no clue.

PS:
I wrote it, so I thought it was fantastic.

WE:
Served as an officer in the Army since October 2004. Assigned as a platoon leader in the 82nd Airborne Division. Outstanding performance evaluations while serving in an elite unit. I'm not sure how much, if any, of that translated for admissions committees.

I am currently deployed to Iraq and have been extended from 6 to 15 months, that is the reason for my deferment.

Additional info & updates

April 6 - I received an email from the admissions committee at WashU telling me that I was to be waitlisted and that I would soon receive official notification to that effect from the dean.

April 9 - I responded to the dean of admissions with an email saying WashU was still my first choice.

April 10 - Official waitlist notification at WashU. I get the feeling I have no chance of getting off that list.

April 16 - In at Indiana, it feels good to have an option.

April 16 - Ding, Northwestern. Not surprised, but the online PDF in place of a paper letter inside an envelope with a stamp affixed to the outside seemed a bit tacky. I would have thought my application fee could cover the cost of mailing my rejection. I guess not.

April 18 - Out at GW and waitlisted at Maryland, both by snail mail.

April 24 - Waitlisted at Catholic by snail mail. Could not check the "withdraw" box fast enough.

April 25 - Called UW Madison to ask about my application status. A very nice lady said it was still under review and would take a few more weeks, I was pretty bummed. About ten minutes later I got an acceptance email. No longer bummed, very excited.

May 1 - Emailed Wisconsin asking for a one year deferment.

May 2 - Received response from UW... YES!

I will be attending the University of Wisconsin Law School in 2008!!

I could not be more pleased.

I will withdraw from all other schools post haste.

May 14 - Rejected from BU and waitlisted at Temple. I could care less, I am going to UW!!

May 15 - DING! Harvard! See previous day's comments.

May 17 - Received an email today from Florida Coastal offering me $10,000 a year. Considering I never applied there it isn't too bad an offer. Still going to UW, but it was awfully nice of them.

Thinking of going to American?

Did American offer you any financial aid with your acceptance? Just wondering. I'm waitlisted there myself. Where do you think you'll end up?

Havent visited, no time! I never thought about applying but their dual degree with a Madrid, Spain University sounds perfect for me - I was in Spain last year and I love it. I just hope that if I get in I have some financial aid, cause without it will be impossible.

nope

I did visit Wash U for the admitted students day, and really liked the school. The building and facilities are amazing, and I really liked all of the current and prospective students that I met. I'm from St. Louis, so I wasn't really worried about the city, as it seems many others are.

Hi! Sorry its taken me so long to get back to you about Madison. First of all, just reading some of your other posts, you would be crazy to go to American over Madison. I got into both schools too, and even if the obvious difference in rankings is not enough to get you to go to Madison, once you visit American I think you will find Madison is a nicer school with better programs. That said, I know you wrote on my wall about the negative things I had to say about Wisconsin. Basically you just shouldnt listen to me. I was really hoping to get into Minnesota (Where I am from) but I dont think thats going to happen, so when I realized I was going to end up at Wisconsin I think I was just a little bummed. That said, the school seems OK and the building is a little wierd. Some parts are very nice and new, while others seem very old and run down. The only real problem I thought was with the library. There is really not a lot of room for studying, and its not open 24/7 which most Law libraries are. With that said, Madison is still a GREAT school and I'm sure you will love it. I hope that helps. It looks like you are headed to Iraq and got the deferment, so good luck in 2008.
