Thanks! Northwestern is not on my list because 90% of their admits are at least one year out of college (and I'm a college senior). I thought about it, but it's a bit of a reach school anyone, and with my odds cut down to 10% of the class anyway, it just didn't seem worth it. As for the other T14s...honestly, I kind of have my heart set on moving to Chicago or maybe DC. I did my research and I really wanted to get my list down to just 10 schools. My litmus test was "would I really want to go here even if I did miraculously get in?" Good luck to you on your cycle!

Fee Waivers
Tuesday, October 07 2008 at 08:00 PM

I took the test in June 08...I'm guessing this gave law schools plenty of time to send out fee waivers after getting my info through the lsac candidate referral service. They are all 'merit-based'...so lsat and gpa?

Good Luck

Just wanted to say good luck on your cycle. We have pretty similar numbers and are applying to several of the same schools. Congrats on the LSAT jump!

I actually want to get into sports law (contracts, sponsorship agreements, real estate transactions). My internship was cool for the most part, it was pretty much a one on one thing with him kind of showing me the ropes. It's a lot more work than the glitz and glamor of Hollywood would lead you to believe. What type of law do you want to get into?

Thanks. I didn't apply to Northwestern because 1) I'm straight out of undergrad and it'd be quite an uphill battle, 2) I don't like their business-oriented approach and 3) I like UT a lot and may go there over a few of the T14, including NW.

Thanks

No ED
Tuesday, October 07 2008 at 08:00 PM

Hey...no ED for me. I am just not at a point where I can say 100% that I know I want to go to a specific school although I am pretty sure I would like to end up in Boston. What about you...ED anywhere? I'm freaking out b/c I noticed a typo on my personal statement to BC and BU. Ugh...I called BC and they said no biggie. Hopefully that's true. And hopefully my state gets it right this election!!!

I don't know everything about legal practice either. I'm taking Intellectual Property Law now and we are going over copyrights., If you want more excitement you could always represent authors as an agent/lawyer, but that's a little more cutthroat. I think it's good to keep an open mind about what you eventually want to do.

good luck with Michigan! it's one of my top choices too -- I was wondering what you themed your why mich essay? I spent four days thinking about it and only managed to crank it out today. just out of curiosity/to find out more about the school. did you write about the quadrangle / the big state school + wolverine atmosphere / transnational law / interdisciplinary approach? or something else? if you wouldn't mind sharing. . .

thank you for your extensive response. I think the "let them know more about me as an applicant" and "sound genuine and not like a viewbook" was what I went for. no, no word from michigan. they haven't even requested my report from LSAC -- all my other 11 schools have a day or two after submission. I read their JD FAQ on their website, and it's the most friendly one so far -- in stark contrast to Chicago's which is pretty cold. more bonus points, I guess, for me to want them. we'll see. good luck to you too!

Congrats on UMich yourself! This has definitely been a validating acceptance, I was very down on myself previously. I'm so excited I was at my local Modell's type store and seen a UMich sweatshirt that I had to buy today. See you in May.

go blue!

congrats on UMich. Yeah I'm working in Seoul currently for the Metropolitan Office of Education (SMOE). Teaching at a public school here...sixth grade. So you wrote for a textbook publisher? Interesting. God knows we need a new textbook here.
