Additional info & updates

12/19/07: In at Davis via online status check. Acceptance package included a Dean's Merit scholarship for $10,000/year.
1/24/08: Designated an IP fellow at Santa Clara, full scholarship.
2/21/08: Out at Berkeley, to be expected with my GPA I guess. Just waiting on Hastings now.
3/11/08: Still waiting...but looking forward to visits to Davis and Santa Clara.
3/14/08: In at Hastings. Got a VERY nice call from one of their deans today. I'm really happy.
3/21/08: E-mail about $ from Hastings.
3/24/08: Withdrew from SCU. Leaving all that scholarship money on the table hurt, but I can't see myself going there over Hastings or Davis.
4/15/08: Withdrew from Davis, deposit down at Hastings.

Hastings wins! Primary reason was convenience/happiness, based on location of SO. Secondary reason was that I actually got the feeling that it would be a better fit for me than Davis (something that I never would have expected given the opinions you see floating around about Hastings on the message boards).

Davis recently offered me a really nice grant package based on my Need Access forms. Makes them look even better...

And then there's the scholarship offer from Santa Clara...For someone who's interested in IP law and has to stay in the Bay Area, it's definitely something to think about.

I am going to retake the lsat in december. What do you think helped you improve so much?

Thanks

Thanks for the info. You know nerves cost me a bunch of points so that is good advice. I also was taking old practice tests instead of newer ones because I just ran out of time, meaning I have the newer ones I just wanted to do all of them. I think that hurt me also. Anyways for the next month I am only going to work on the most recent tests. I am hoping to see a great improvement like you saw but only time will tell

Congratulations on Santa Clara. Not that it is much of a surprise with your numbers. How did you hear from them?

congrats

for the encouragement, and for the good luck. On 12/11 you wrote that I should be receiving an acceptance from Santa Clara soon, and indeed, it arrived the next day. Do you have any more of that magic dust? Good luck with the rest of your applications.

congrats on Davis,

How did you hear about the money offer at Davis? Was it included with your admissions materials or did it come separately later on.

i went complete on 12/10. i'm not sure why they still haven't gotten back to you... i'm sure you'll hear from them soon. good luck!

Agreed

Hastings is slow. If you take a look at last year, their decisions came out very late. I wouldn't sweat it yet!

i'm surprised that berkeley rejected you. with your lsat score, i'd think that they would accept you without reservation. good luck with the rest of the schools!

I think they might be holding your app thinking your great LSAT score will get you in somewhere better. If that is your top choice, I would call them or write and state your interest. That Santa Clara offer is amazing though! Hard choice!

I am not sure what the situation is. People who applied after us have now been accepted. I would probably send in a LOCI or an email to that effect. I am not sure if we are being YP'd/held to see if we withdraw, but there's enough of a chance that I think it's worth it. That is, if it is your first choice. It can't hurt anyway. I may withdraw, but I was hoping to maybe get some money.

Yay

on your acceptance to Hastings! Lots of thought for nothing, I guess. ;-)

I really encourage you to attend Davis. The more students that matriculate with high LSAT scores such as yours, the better chance there is of Davis accepting sutdents with LOW LSAT scores such as myself, who really want to attend a top law school in order to practice publlic interest law...think about it, you too can make a difference in the lives of so many people -- derivatively -- by attending Davis!!!

Yeah, most don't schools admission process isn't like that, but King Hall is really into ethnic diversity and public interest law. If you look at the numbers for the students that they have admitted this cycle, it looks as if they are going for the high munbers and low numbers (at least at this point) and the middle scores seem to be getting denied. This is why I think that the more students that they get to enroll with higher numbers, the more seats they can offer to URMs and special cases. Davis is a great school...I just finished my undergrad there and absolutely loved it.
