Additional info & updates

Non-traditional student;
I am 34yo, and married with two young children.

I have 6 years of active duty experience as a medic in the military, with over 4 years spent overseas. Several years of additional work experience, with jobs such as: resident advisor, computer consultant, etc...

Fluent Japanese

I bombed the LSAT... not happy about that. I know that I have almost no chance at some of the schools that I applied to. I'm just trying to keep the dream alive.

12-12-07. Accepted by Santa Clara via ED. Awesome!

12-14-07. Deferred at UC Hastings. Ouch!

01-10-08. Rejected at UC Berkeley. I knew that I would probably not get in, but it still stings. All these years of working my ass off --going to college while working full time; having to wait until my children go to bed before I could study, etc, etc... After all I have done, I get shot down because of a couple of logic games and a reading comp passage.

01-18-08. In at Idaho; notified via email.

01-30-08. Accepted at the University of the Pacific. Received Honors at Entrance and I am currently being considered for a scholarship. Great News!

01-31-08. In at the University of San Francisco. More great news! I'm hoping that I receive a scholarship though.

02-08-08. Deferred from early decision status to the regular applicant pool at Arizona State. It's great to know that I'm still in the running.

02-09-08. Rejected at the University of Washington and New Mexico today - a double whammy. I expected a rejection from Washington, but New Mexico... I thought that I would at least make the waitlist.

As a fellow non-trad (35) I wish you luck. I did poorly on my LSAT as well and am hoping for the best. I figure it is worth shooting for the stars when applying as one never knows who will say "yes." Congrats on you first acceptance. Still waiting for mine! I will be watching your profile and hope to see some more acceptances in the future.

CONGRATS...

and good luck on the cycle! What unit were you with? I'm an 11A overseas right now. Keep me posted and don't worry about the LSAT - your GPA and experience will more than make up for it!

155 not exactly a bomb

151 is the national average. You're in good shape for half of the schools on your list. Maybe forget about Berkeley and Washington. Non-trad here too...I need to pull a miracle LSAT from Dec test. My only ace in the hole is a stellar grad career. We'll see if it matters... Good luck!

How did Phoenix present it's scholarship opporturnity? Was it in its acceptance package or was it a different letter?

Thanks

The Santa Clara acceptance was a large, thin envelope that came by regular mail. It just contained a letter and a couple of other sheets of information. I'm sure yours will be coming soon; I find it hard to believe that they would turn down anyone with your combination of background and GPA. I also agree with the other poster that your comment about not having a chance at some of the schools that you applied to is a little pessimistic. I wouldn't be surprised if you got into Davis or Hastings or both. I really hope that they would be willing to overlook a couple of points on the LSAT in light of your soft factors. Anyway, I'm rooting for you.

congrats!

congrats on santa clara! i didnt get any fin. aid money either but i think its because ive never filled out a fafsa. have you done one? congrats again and good luck during the rest of the cycle!

yea

Youre right about the money being based on the application and not based on fafsa cus I got some money from USF today. I'm still holding out for Hastings or Davis though cus even if they don't give me any money, I think it would definitely be worth it because of their rankings.

Congrats!!!

I've got similar numbers to you and am applying to a lot of the same schools. I'm also 34 and married but no kids so I can only imagine as hard as my decision to take on this debt, you'rs must be worse. Congrats on the acceptances and don't get yourself down on the Hastings one, the defferal means that they just need more time to think. Good luck!

congrats
