Additional info & updates

American - Fedex envelope

WashU - email, then two letters a week or so later...one with the acceptance, the other with the Scholarship info

Washington & Lee - Small envelope! So mean! No word on $$ yet...*
*Update: $12,000/yr - yaaaay

Indiana - email

Kind of curious how I'm getting to Lexington to visit W&L, since I'm a New Yorker without a license....hmmm

ND - "Provisional List"...."Please see enclosure". Of course, there is no enclosure, and their prospective students website hasn't been updated to include the Provisional List Form. Awesome.

GW - Rejected. Yawn. Ugly campus, I'm okay with it. No offense if that's your shtick, I'm a cherry blossoms-honor code kinda girl, so...yeah...

Big green packet from W&M!! WOOHOO!! Why oh why must they have their open house on the same weekend as W&L? That's just not right. I guess I'll be making a few trips... I'm not actually complaining. No word on $$ yet, although the tuition at W&L is so high that just looking at regular tuition for W&M is refreshing.*
*Graduate Fellowship: In-state tuition (without having to qualify as a VA resident) for 3 years, plus a $4,000/yr stipend. Go W&M.

YAY for W&L!!

Congrats. I am also a NYC Paralegal! Been working in the city for 5 years. Boy would Lexington be a refreshing break. I guess W&L never notified you of complete status either, huh? How did you get notice of your approval? Did they offer any $$? Again, congrats!

American notified via Fedex package -- no email. WashU, however, notified by email almost a week ago, to let me know the acceptance letter was in the mail.

Nope, W&L never sent me a complete email, so I had no idea of my status, since I didn't call. They didn't offer any money outright, but I'm hoping a few phone calls might help a little....And oh my goodness yes, Lexington would be such a reprieve from the City!! It's definitely my top choice right now, but we'll see.

IU

Congrats on IU! I just got an email saying my file was currently under review. Did you get that same email and how long after did they notify you?

Notre Dame
Tuesday, August 23 2005 at 08:00 PM

Yeah, what gives with Notre Dame's unprofessional letter? The enclosure part made me laugh. What do you think this means exactly? It looks like we're both looking at W&L/ND...oh and don't worry about finding a way to Lexington--they'll pay for your airfare to come visit (as well as your hotel).

Yeah, did you get their email all of a week later? I'm feeling very slighted, especially looking at the scores of some of their admitted students on this website. Lame. I don't think they thought I was Catholic enough.....probably a good call.... Yeah, the top choices are/were ND, W&L, and W&M. ND's pretty much out -- even if I get in, they won't give me money, and that's kind of necessary. W&M is taking forever, which isn't a good sign. But maybe I'll see you at one of the W&L Open Houses?

TRAVEL TO LEXINGTON
Friday, August 12 2005 at 08:00 PM

Heya - I'd be happy to travel with ya down to VA. I'd prefer to go to the 3/25 open house because I think decisions are due 4/3 and I'll need some time to ponder after the visit. I'll write regular email a bit later, or feel free to write me too.

Yes, I had so much fun -- also surprisingly impressed -- the people were SO nice! I'm having a tough time deciding between Washington & Lee and William & Mary...if anyone had any thoughts on the matter, that would be greatly appreciated....

W&L or W&M
Monday, September 19 2005 at 08:00 PM

As a fellow New Yorker (with no driver's license), I opted for W&M for practical reasons -- it's a bit closer to home (Amtrak will get you there in 8 hours), it's cheaper, and also I was very very close to going there for undergrad. My impression is that the professors at W&L are amazing and that the academics are top-notch. However, W&M really stresses teaching practical legal skills, an approach that appeals to me more. I am also a big fan of W&M's "citizen lawyer" concept, which was a big part of my decision as well. I don't think you can go wrong between the two schools, so it's basically a personal choice. If you'd like to talk about this more, feel free to shoot me an email.

W&L

Glad to see that another New Yorker is heading to W&L next year

hey :

Hey, really quick question, why W&L over W&M. William and Mary isnt ranked as high, but I feel like the reputation and placement rates are significantly better.. just curious, cause I may have to consider both as well.
