Additional info & updates

12/01/06 Recieved a package from Duke. It had the acceptance letter.

12/11/06 A large envelope came from NYU. Not as bulky as Duke's but it was an acceptance!
Georgetown's online status check went to decision. I should be getting a letter in a week or so.

12/16/06 A SMALL letter from Georgetown. It's about the size of a post card. Seems too small to be good news but it is an acceptance. DC would be a fun place to go.

12/21/06 Letter from Duke offering a 18,000/year scholarship. Sounds pretty good to me!

12/25/06 A regular sized evelope came from Vanderbilt. I was accepted. That's good because my wife's family lives nearby.

12/26/06 A large packet came from Vanderbilt. It had a spiral bound book about the school, places to live, eat, and hang out. Very nice and informative.

1/2/07 Sent an updated transcript to the LSDAS. I'm sure it will take forever to process, but it boosted my GPA by .04. That will help.

1/8/07 LSDAS updated my GPA. Much quiker than I thought.

1/16/07 Large envelope came from Michigan today. I got accepted! I've heard that Michigan is beautiful. By the way the website went to decision wednesday or thursday last week.

1/17/07 Put on hold at Harvard.

1/22/07 Got an email from UVA that my status had changed on friday. I came home and had an acceptance. It was in a normal letter sized envelope. I may go there because of the weather.

1/25/07 Large envelope from Columbia today. It was a nice folder with an acceptance. This is fantastic. My sister lives on the west side so I could visit her often.

2/2/07 I got a message on my phone from the University of Chicago. The gentleman said that he had good news about my application. I am assuming that means I'm in!!!! The University of Chicago is definitly the top of my list so far. Their clerkship placement, scholarly impact, and teacher quality is absolutly top notch. I am so excited about this I'm ready to jump out of my skin.

02/17/07 Stanford rejection came in a small light envelope. I knew it was a rejection just by looking at it. No surprises here though. I never thought I'd get in there. I just applied so that I wouldn't have to think about what would have been had I applied.

03/17/07 Sent out all the withdralw letters so that people who are waiting to hear get a chance.

03/27/07 I got a phone call after school from Yale. They told me I was accepted. I asked if it was a joke. I am numb and I am still planning on calling the school tomorrow to make sure my friends haven't pulled the cruelest practical joke ever. The best part is that I bought non-refundable plane tickets to New York, Boston, and Chicago 2 days ago. Oh well. I'm still going to Yale.

4/30/07 Finally heard from Harvard. Got waitlisted so I withdrew. Yale here I come!

Watch out for BYU. They'll take you to lunch and tell you that it's your duty to go there, and that top 5 schools are the devil, the devil!

I hear you on the weather, Russ. It's my #4 factor for choosing schools: prestige, clerkship opportunities, overall class size, and weather.

on hold
Friday, May 12 2006 at 08:00 PM

Harvard has a policy that they will update you on your application status every 2 months. On hold means that they have your application still in consideration. Some people have been marking this as "deffered" but that is incorrect. When your on hold, all it means is they haven't decided yet what to do.

Congratulations on Columbia

Congratulations on Columbia, Russ! That's an awesome school. I'd love to go there.

Yeah, I might still go to BYU because I have family near here. But I really want to go to Chicago.

chicago

It would be really hard to decide, but I think the finacial aid would be the biggest factor. I would lean toward chicago, but I was told by a friend at Harvard that I may be able to get a good financial aid based on need.

Just tell it like it is. Mine was not serious, but lying about it would only cause you problems. Say you don't disclose and the school doesn't check, then you graduate and you have to do a background check to get admitted to the bar. Than is when someone finds out what you did and that you also lied about it on you applications. That does not look good.

I am never going to hear from Harvard. I have thought not hearing was a bad sign, but then I thought "well at least I haven't been rejected." Now I think that my rejection letter got lost in the mail. I'll never know.
