Additional info & updates

SEE YOU ALL AT CHICAGO!

"Complete" dates are when I received the "Your application is complete" email.

Duke's acceptance: Big, packet-type envelope.
Georgetown's acceptance: Standard envelope (quite light).
NYU's acceptance: Standard, large manila envelope.
Northwestern's acceptance: Email
Chicago: Call from a Dean of Admissions, followed by a small, standard envelope.
UPenn's acceptance: HUGE, bubble-wrapped, gray envelope/package.
Columbia's acceptance: Large packet-type envelope.
Stanford's rejection: small, light, smelly enevlope.

1/8/07: Withdrew from Duke and Georgetown. Hopefully that'll hope those who are still waiting.

1/19/07: Call from Chicago, woohoo! Bonus points for a very pleasant phone voice.

1/26/07: Invited to University of Chicago Facebook Group.

1/29/07: The mail was full today: Acceptance packets from UPenn and Columbia and small little letter from Stanford announcing that yes, my freshmen grades were a factor (it didn't say that explicitly--just a theory).

2/21/07: FAFSA, Needaccess, and Columbia FA Questionnaire completed. Unless I get into Harvard or Yale, my choice will come down to grant-size, apartment-size, quality of campus, or whoever sends me a free t-shirt. It makes sense. If I got a nice t-shirt, I'd have to wear it. People would then see my wearing that school's t-shirt, and then voila! I'm committed. Has anyone ever used "voila" without an exclamation?

4/20: Visited Chicago and Columbia. There was no comparison. I'll see you all at Chicago!

4/23: Waitlisted at Harvard. No surprise there.

4/24: Withdrew from Columbia. That even feels weird to type out.

4/25: In a pre-emptive strike against Yale, I sent in my decision to Chicago.

4/26: Rejected from Yale. Ha ha! I rejected you yesterday (I wonder if they saw that?). Oh well, there goes my dream of teaching law or being made a Biglaw partmer during my 1L summer. I'll just have to wait until after I graduate now.

4/27: Applied for Chicago housing at Regents, it's like the Yale Law of Chicago housing, except people get accepted.

6/4: Withdrew from the Harvard waitlist (to truthfully commit at Chicago). I'm now 2 for 2 in my pre-emptive strikes.

SEE YOU ALL AT CHICAGO (or at the UVA softball tournament)!

Hey Bill, this is Russ. I just got an acceptance from Duke, too. Hope we both seem many more.

Harvard

Have you been called by Harvard yet? All the people who have been accepted were interviewed over the phone. Tell me if you get a call.

Harvard
Tuesday, October 31 2006 at 07:00 PM

No. It seems that they're calling mostly VIPS first: 175+/3.9+, students who would potentially turn Harvard down for Yale and Stanford.

I'm keeping my eye on you

because we're pretty similar. Although I'm a chick and not LDS. Hope you get in everywhere!

Congrats on NYU. Maybe I'll see you there.

Withdraw from Duke. We both know you aren't gonna go. Just kidding, its my dream school as you know. You, Russ, and Tully may want to be a little more subtle in the info you put out here. Rumor has it admissions committees have come onto LSN, figured out who the candidates were and have used that info to influence admissions decisions. Hope to hear back from ya.

And...

There's nothing here that they wouldn't already know. Good luck on your December score.

I just wanted to ask if I could apply to Mormon Coke Drinkers Anonymous.

Thanks

Bill, y'all are probably right about the Admissions officers. Plus if all your info is in you app then there is nothing to hide. Thanks for the encouragement. I imagine there is some Harvard love coming your way.

Harvard

Alright, you're now a member. For Harvard, it's pretty nerveracking to know that they're making calls. I never thought I'd have Cambridge's area code memorized without ever making a call there. I hope you're right.

Took it in December, hopefully I didn't suck it up too bad. We'll see how it goes. Pontifical Catholic here I come.

Thank you
Wednesday, December 06 2006 at 07:00 PM

Thanks for the comments. We will have to see how admissions goes. Are you in town? We should go to lunch or something with the philosophy crew. I'll be back soon.

Good Job

Good Job--You Suck! Love, Tully

weather
Friday, May 12 2006 at 08:00 PM

Yeah, Chicago is an awesome school. I think it should be #2 behind Yale. But the weather there sucks! I'd still go there if I got accepted.

great numbers

Great scores and schools. How did you study for the LSAT and for how long? Any personal advice? Thanks.

Choice

Out of the schools you have been accepted to so far where are you leaning?

JLR
Good question
Tuesday, October 31 2006 at 07:00 PM

Unless Harvard or Yale think more of me than Stanford (yeah right), it'll come down to Columbia and Chicago. I'll visit both in April, but I am leaning toward Chicago. It's smaller and sends a higher % into clerkships. But it is colder, more ivory-tower, and more economically based, while Columbia would be awesome in regard to living in Manhattan (but not the Village).

Congrats on Penn and CLS!
Saturday, September 16 2006 at 08:00 PM

Sorry about Stanford, though. :( But you have CLS!

UPenn
Tuesday, October 31 2006 at 07:00 PM

Yes, I was regular decision for U Penn, and I didn't do the optional essays. I also didn't do them for Michigan. Maybe that's why I'm still waiting for a decision. Not that I care. At all.

Second one, I think. Disappointing. Nice catch, though!

I think that it means we should be expecting a fatty rejection.

Harvard

Have you talked to Jeff? He said that when he visited Harvard, Josh told him those who are still on the hold list are all probably going to be accepted. Of course, you should make your deposit at whatever school you choose, but be ready to break it.

what was it about Chicago that sold you? I think you made the right choice, but I still want to know your reasons.

People do get accepted to Yale
Thursday, December 21 2006 at 07:00 PM

But I don't think they like Mormons. Although Russ and I managed it, it is still seems to be kind of a fluke.
