Extra Curricular Information

Well I'm bored so I thought I'd add some of this...

Education:
Major in philosophy , minor in German. I graduated with honors and have an honors thesis to my name.

Work Experience:
I've done a fair amount of teaching as a Teaching Assistant in college and as an LSAT teacher. I also have a full-time job as a patent writer. That's a good job.

Extras:
I've presented some papers at various conferences, have some good language skills, and other stuff.

Additional info & updates

I decided to change this to the current cycle for those looking for information on how things went down last year. I'm sorry I don't have dates for those of you looking for them, but here's admissions info for you.

ACCEPTANCES:
Ave Maria: I got a phone call and a large, white enevelope before Christmas break. They told me about the scholarship then. I've also had several follow-ups from professors, students, and former students.

William and Mary: I got a large, brown envelope before Christmas break. It also contained scholarhip information. I got need-based aid awards around the end of February. I've had a lot of correspondence from them in the intervening months as well.

George Mason: I got a phone call in January from the dean. A large, white envelope followed, and a small, white envelope with a sticker saying "Scholarship Award Information" on it. I haven't received a whole lot from them, but they are having a luncheon in Salt Lake City later this month.

Arizona: I think it was a small, white envelope. I've received a viewbook and some invitations to other events too.

University of Illinois: Things happened strangly with this one. One day I got an email about an admitted students' forum online. I called them to see if I was admitted and I was. They told me about the scholarship over the phone and I got the letter a couple of days after that. I've had several follow-ups from students that have been helpful.

BYU: Email followed by a few letters, but mostly emails.

REJECTIONS:
NYU: Small white envelope. It came pretty fast. It's unfortunate because I got into a masters program there. Oh well.

University of Michigan: Another dreaded small white envelope.

University of Chicago: They kept me hanging for a while. I didn't hear from them until the beginning of April. In my mind that's a good thing because they must have seen something they liked to keep me in the loop for so long. But in the end it was the same small white envelope.

WAITLIST:
Notre Dame: This was one of my top three. It was going to be either BYU, Illinois, or Notre Dame. Unfortunately though, they waitlisted me. I didn't really feel like waiting on a waitlist when I had BYU and Illinois looking at me. They have a wonderful campus though and any true football fan has to experience game day at Notre Dame. The football alone is reason to go to ND.

There's a loaded question....

Well, I probably won't go to Arizona. I've kind of ruled out Michigan as well. There's a site, vault.com, that has a lot of law school reviews (unfortunately it's not free). There were several comments on how Michigan isn't the greatest. As for the others, they all have their selling points. I'd prefer a school where I can get an M.A. in philosophy at the same time, but other schools could pursuade me from that. It'll probably come down to money and what's the best fit for me. Out of the one's I've been accepted to, Ave Maria, Illinois, George Mason, and W&M are likely, though I do plan on visiting Ave Maria, Illinois, W&M, W&L, GM. I've already been to Notre Dame (very nice place), Chicago, and BYU. We'll see.

Not really resticted...

I'm not geographically restricted. I didn't apply to some of the schools you listed because I talked to various people who attended there and not many had good things to say. As far as schools in California go, I did look at them, but I don't really want to live there. California's really nice, but I lived there and don't really want to again--though I do visit often. I have a couple friends at USC and they enjoy it, but they're also have full ride scholarships. I applied to the schools I did because they all have something different I'm looking for.

What exactly did your full ride at Ave Maria consist of, just tuition?

I'd have to look at the letter again to be sure, but I think it was just tuition.

You should go to one of those schools that gave you all that money, and withdraw from BYU to open up a spot for me :)

Eh.....I don't think so.

I still have to see how much money BYU's going to give me.

Well I'll be...

I just have to decide where I'm going first.

I am in incoming student at BYU I hope that you will get this message sometime in the near future. I found a message board dedicated to BYU Law and I was hoping that you could share some info about the school/teachers/your experience. Thanks. http://dearcosmo.14.forumer.com/
