Extra Curricular Information

I went to community college for three years, got my AA, and transferred to the public university closest to where I lived. My extracurricular activities consisted of playing in a punk band, reading, and sound engineering. In other words, I had no "legitimate" extracurricular activities. As far as work experience goes, I had basic, run of the mill student jobs -delivery, customer service, etc. I also have a criminal record.

If it weren't for the LSAT, I'd be out of luck.

Additional info & updates

Detailed updates

11-13: Duke - Deferred; request for transcript update after completion of Fall '07 term (email: 6 pm)

11-19: Georgetown - Decision mailed (online status check)

11-20: Alabama - Accepted with full scholarship (phone: 4 pm)

11-28: Georgetown - Called and discovered that my decision was mailed to the wrong address; requested that they send it by email since I'd be on the road for the next two weeks (phone)

11-30: Georgetown - Accepted (email)

12-19: Cornell - Notice of deferral (mail) would not go to Cornell over Georgetown, but not withdrawing because I'm interested in seeing how they'll ultimately decide

01-18: LSAC - Forwarded updated (for Fall '07) transcript to all schools

01-23: Vanderbilt - Decision mailed date (online status check)

01-24: Georgetown - Attended early admitted students reception; overall impression was good

01-28: Vanderbilt - Waitlisted (mail) surprised, but don't care

02-05: Chicago - Placed in "hold" category; request for additional LOR, essay, and/or transcript update (mail) thought i'd get rejected, so i'm stoked on this

02-07: Columbia - In "reserve" at Columbia. Up for reconsideration at the end of May (mail) i figure this is more of a waitlist than a deferral. so it's basically a rejection; kind of a bummer

02-08: Harvard - Rejected (email: 4 pm) knew it would happen, don't care

02-09: Yale - Rejected (mail) knew it would happen, don't care

02-13: Duke - Accepted (email: 6 pm) stoked!

03-14: Michigan - Waitlisted (email: noon) couldn't be less affected

03-28: Virginia - Decision mailed (email: midnight)

03-28: Duke - Visited for accepted students reception, eh....

04-01: Chicago - Waitlisted (mail) kind of bummed, but not surprised

04-01: Virginia - I haven't gotten the letter yet, but I'm gonna go ahead and call it as a waitlist now. My cycle is going to end (Acceptance-Rejection-Waitlist) as 2-2-8 or 2-3-7. You heard it here first.

04-03: Virginia - Waitlisted (mail) called it! looks like i'm on the "priority" waitlist

04-14: Georgetown - Received financial aid letter (mail) shit, and i was thinking of going to Duke

04-18: Cornell - In reserve (mail) don't care

04-18: Georgetown - Selected to receive a Law Center Scholarship (email: 5 pm)

04-18: Alabama - Withdrew application

04-19: NYU - Waitlisted (mail). Didn't send back form indicating my interest=withdrawn

04-19: UCLA - Withdrew application

04-19: Vanderbilt - Withdrew application

04-19: Cornell - Withdrew application

04-23: Georgetown - Sent scholarship acceptance form (email).

04-28: Columbia - I got a letter that said since I never sent in the form indicating my interest in remaining in reserve, my application was no longer in consideration for admission. I did send the form, but whatever.

07-23: Michigan - Waitlisted, Rejected (mail). Back on April 19th, I meant to withdraw all my applications but didn't get around to all of them.

7-30: Virginia - Waitlisted, Rejected (email). Another school I never got around to contacting about withdrawing my application. I think that just leaves Chicago now. I know my UCLA app still says it's pending, but I might have heard from them at some point earlier in the summer. I honestly can't remember though. If I had to guess, I'd say they waitlisted me.

I thought your comment before was pretty funny. I honestly have no idea why I got deferred, there was no reason given in the email. If I had to guess, it might have to do with my age (but I know someone younger than me with worse numbers who got into Duke last year). It's definitely not yield protection, because they accepted a lot of people with numbers better than mine. I wouldn't worry too much about it, let's just see how the rest of the cycle goes. (For the record, I have no criminal history)

Sorry to hear about Duke deferral...I heard from someone that for them, it had to do with a grade trend? I'm sure they'll come back to you soon - and with all your completes, you'll be hearing from everyone else asap, too. Best of luck!

Congrats!

I can't believe how long they took, but I guess they finally came to their senses and admitted you. Guess the deferral wasn't so bad after all. Congrats!

I didn't write any essays, but I did submit an additional letter of rec. I was thinking about writing an essay, but then I got into Berkeley... What about you?
