Additional info & updates

Post-cycle Update:
"Unsmudged" my numbers. For someone who took the LSAT 5x and still ended up with a sub-160, I think I did relatively well this cycle, even though I was expecting a brutal one. Right now, I'm leaning towards Brooklyn and Temple, so I still have some thinking to do.

I hope my cycle gives others hope if they have dismal LSAT scores and took it multiple times. I think softs really helped me.

Dreams: Cornell, GWU, W&M, Berkeley
Reach: IU-B, W&L, Cardozo, Brooklyn, American, UCD, OSU
Reach/Target: Temple, Villanova, L&C, Case Western
Safety: Catholic, NYLS, Rutgers-Newark

Strategy: Only applying once, so might as well reach for the stars.

11-21-10. Finished submitting all apps. Now the wait begins...

12-2-10. Waitlisted at W&L. I expected a rejection, so I guess WL isn't bad either. I'll ride the process to the end.

12-6-10. Accepted at Case Western via e-mail! Pretty exciting to get my first acceptance so early in the cycle. There is hope for me yet. :)

12-14-10. Rejected at Cornell via e-mail. I expected this. It was worth a try anyway.

12-19-10. Accepted at Temple via status checker! What a great Sunday. Now I have an option on the East Coast and a great city!

12-20-10. Accepted at Catholic via e-mail, followed by a Faculty Fellowship Award e-mail of $12,500/yr.

12-27-10. Rejected at GWU PT program via e-mail. Pretty disappointed, but I guess it was pie in the sky to begin with.

1-5-11. Accepted at Rutgers-Newark via e-mail.

1-11-11. Rejected at Berkeley. Another pie falls out of the sky, sigh.

1-24-11. WL at American. Not gonna lie, this one stung a bit, especially since my GPA is above median. Just shows how much of a crapshoot this process is. I was below both medians for Temple and was accepted. *shrug*

1-25-11. WL at Cardozo. OUUCH. This gives me little hope for Booklyn. Damn Damn DAMN.

Accepted to NYLS via Status Checker. Scholarship info to be sent via regular mail. I'll update when I receive it. It'll take a lot of $$$ for me to accept a T4, even if it's in NYC.

1-26-11. Accepted at Brooklyn via e-mail and status checker! Wow, what a relief after the lackluster performance at Cardozo and American. It's going to be a tough choice between Temple and Brooklyn. I like Temple's cheap tuition, but I love NYC!!

1-29-11. $20,000/yr Dean's Scholarship at NYLS contingent upon 3.3 GPA. Not sure if this is good enough for a T4 though...

2-18-11. Rejected after W&L trimmed their WL. Oh well, after a few months of contemplating, I'm not a big fan of rural VA.

2-21-11. Accepted at Villanova!

2-23-11. Accepted at Lewis & Clark. Will probably withdraw though. East Coast is very tempting.

3-4-11. Withdrew from Case, NYLS, L&C, and Catholic.

3-7-11. Rejected by IUB via snail mail. meh, indiana.

3-8-11. Accepted to OSU via e-mail. I have a feeling my app was on hold this whole time and then I was accepted as an after thought. Oh well. A T40 acceptance is nice too.

Rejected at UCD via status checker.

My cycle is effectively over as I'm expecting a rejection/WL from W&M.

3-15-11. WL at W&M as expected. Cycle over.

Boalt application

Hey! I'm happy to elaborate. I read in a TLS interview with Dean Tom that they will entertain LSAT addendums, such as proving a history of poor standardized test scores, but high academic achievement. I was able to prove this because I did poorly on my SAT but went on to get a good GPA at a good college, and maintained a high GPA in my Masters program while working full time. I actually copy & pasted my old SAT scores from the College Board website, and wrote a letter basically saying what I just said to you - that despite my low test scores I've proven that I can succeed in the classroom. Finally, when I found out I was in Faculty Committee, I sent them two extra rec. letters that I had reserved for scholarship applications that spoke to my work in public service. I also wrote about a 1-page very heart-felt letter to the Faculty Committee asking for their full consideration. I knew the WL at Boalt was ranked, so once you're WL'd there's nothing you can do. They decide your rank when they're in committee if you are WL'd, so you want to do everything you can to make an impression before/during Faculty Committee. Feel free to message me for more info!

I applied to UPenn first and was rejected. UVA has a very late ED deadline, so after the Penn rejection, I asked UVA to change my application from regular decision to ED. Alas, same result. Good luck with your cycle!

Temple!

You've provided great hope to a fellow numbers twin. Coming from an east coaster, Philadelphia is a beautiful historical city that just about anyone would enjoy. You should be proud. Question; I see that you went complete on the 8th of November, but how long was it until you were placed under review and subsequently notified? I've been complete since the 30th with no movement whatsoever. I look forward to hearing from you, and congratulations on the wonderful news!
