President of African Students Union, Active Member International Student Organization, Active Member of Social Action Coalition, Choir for 4 years, workstudy doing international student admissions for 2 years, one study abroad program in England where I interned with an occupational psychologist and did research, one internship in Washington DC with a sociopsychological association that influences public policy through research on social issues.

Additional info & updates

In going to a small school I had quite a few chances to be "seen". I did a lot of work with all three organzations to change some very skewed policy on campus towards minority groups. We were significantly successful in most cases and I used that in my personal statement. I had three recommendations written: my 4 year Psychology Department Advisor and Dean, my Professor of Criminal Law and Ethics in Criminal Justice who has 15 years of experience in the penal system, and the Dean of my public policy internship in DC. I read all my recommendations before sending to LSAC (they knew I would), and made sure they were stellar.

I applied to so many schools because I felt uncertain how to apply since my LSAT score and GPA are in such different ranges. Some people thought I was insane and discouraged high aspirations, and some people thought I may as well give it a shot. I chose the latter, I think I can now say that was "wise" :)

All monies offered are per year, to be offered all 3 years.

April 7, 2006:
Trying to decide between no $ at Texas and $$$ at UIUC. My head hurts from weighing pros and cons...

April 10, 2006:
Waitlisted at Duke. Still no idea what to do about UIUC vs UT.

April 17, 2006:
The deadline for Vanderbilt's deposit was this past weekend. I did not send any money in.

April 18, 2006:
UT's new offer: instate tuition minus $1000. I still dont think I can afford it. It looks like 3 years of a frozen behind in Illinois for me.

April 19, 2006:
2nd random phone call from CWRU. Very nice lady but when can I get a decision? I told her what the competition was since she asked for honesty. She told me they were thinking of giving me $20K per year. We both agreed that I would need a full ride from Case to go there, so I am no longer in line. Best of luck to anyone waiting to hear from them!

Dear Dukie, thanx for the waitlist... but I just can't do it. Withdrawn.

Dear Cornelius, why must thou punish me so?

April 24, 2006:
Ut deposit due today. Not sending it in.

May 2, 2006:
Email from Vanderbilt with need based aid offer. Okay, thank you. But, I asked like March 28 and then again like April 10. No one called, emailed or gave a rip. Why the devil do you then send me this in May? As a former employee of an admissions office myself, I strongly doubt I would have had a pleasant 3 years with Vanderbilt administration if I went there. In short, the withdrawal stands.

thanks so much. i couldn't turn down the offer from IOWA, even though Illinois was actually much nicer over the phone and really seemed to want me to go there, lol. Actually your acct made me think Illinois didn't want me so much as they offered you 30K and me 20K, even after they knew about the fullride from Iowa. haha But it is all good, where are you leaning so far? I wish I had applied to Texas, I only hear super things about them. Not saying I would have gotten in but I wish I had tried. Also Illinois does seem great and they gave you loadsa moola!! ;-) Let me know what you decide.

hey,
