Additional info & updates

I'm applying to certain cities only because my fiance is applying to medical school and we're trying to focus on big cities so we can be in the same area.

10/27 Interview with Northwestern Alum.

11/28- Small envelope from Georgetown notifying me of Acceptance!

12/18-Email from Northwestern notifying me of acceptance!

12/22- Big letter from NYU notifying me of acceptance! Unfortunately it arrived on the same day that I left to visit family for the holidays. So i didn't find out about the acceptance until 1/2/08. Ugh.

1/15/08 - Email notifying me that I'm complete at NYU. Hmm, well I hope so...

1/18/08 - Phone message from U Chicago adcomm. yay!

2/7/08 - Email waitlist message from UPenn. Based purely on schools, it would be one of my lower choices, but Philly is my fiancee's top choice, so this remains an unfortunate turn of events.

2/7/08 - Email from NW about automatically renewed scholarship for 30k a year. Nice.

2/9/08 - Big envelope from Columbia. Holy Moly.

2/29/08 - Rejected from Harvard on a leap day. That can only happen once every four years.

3/17/2008 - $20,000 moral obligation grant from U Chicago that I'm expected to repay at some point, to the best of my abilities.

4/1/2008 - Financial aid offer from NYU giving me a 20000 dollar a year grant! Woo hoo!. The third year is only 10000 if i work in a firm instead of a public interest job.

And NYU jumps into the lead!! Thank god, I was afraid it was going ot come down to a coin flip. Of course, if Columbia matches, it still may be a coin flip.

4/10/08 - Surprise call from UCLA telling me I've been accepted! (i thought the 310 area code was my sister, good thing i didn't pick up saying yo *expletive*.) Quite late in the cycle, but the adcomm apologized and explained about the huge jump in applicants. 23% more than last year!

4/14/08 Columbia essentially matches NYU's offer. Many hours of difficult decision making and flip flopping ensue.

4/30/08 I'm surprised at my reversal of feelings since Columbia was my top choice for the past year. But after more research in to the two, NYU seems like the better school for me, not just in terms of fit, but also for my career. NYU it is!

Fiance gets in to New York Medical College!!!! YAAAY!!! I love it when things work out perfectly.

i now see how borderline my index is at columbia. essentially the same numbers, but i'm a 4.3 and you're a 4.2. that's nuts. good luck, especially concerning the goal of ending up with your fiance!

Nashville or Durham?

I know they're a bit far from home, but Vandy and Duke can offer a good med/law combo. Any particular reason these are out of the picture?

Congrats!

congrats on your success so far! your scholarship numbers are really impressive. if you don't mind my asking, did your NYU scholly include need-based aid? they didn't give me what i was hoping for, so i'm trying to figure out what other people's experiences were. feel free to contact me via email if you like. any idea where you'll go?
