Additional Information
disappointed about December's score, but i have to move forward. i would willingly attend any of these schools, and i'm not an auto-reject at any of them (i hope!), so we'll see what happens.
scholarship info is per year. (i've been waiting a long time to type that sentence!)
1-7-09: decided to add catholic, mostly because it's close to my family and some friends, and i might decide that's what i want. also added buffalo.
1-9-09: good day. got a fee waiver from pittsburgh and immediately sent out an application. then i decided to use my fee waivers from u st. thomas and marquette. another thing: a guy from florida coastal is emailing me every few weeks offering me a $10,000 scholarship to attend. i have never applied, nor have i ever responded, but he continues to email.
1-12-09: finally sent in all of my applications. decided not to apply to new york law school because i could never justify the expense of going there and living in manhattan again over going someplace with a lower COL (and COA). and i looked at people with my numbers who got in last year, and they had meager scholarships. sent out an app to seton hall instead.
1-14-09: fee waivers from dayton, suffolk, and case western today. so many invitations to apply to places (including minnesota the other day--a place i have NO shot at getting into)! i was going to apply to suffolk, but that application is annoying, and i don't want to send a dean's certificate. i'll send out an app to case though. great school. and i liked "the oh in ohio". paul rudd, mischa barton, and posey parker? awesomeness.
1-15-09: woke up to an acceptance from miami! i got an e-mail from them telling me my caneID, and when i signed in, it said congratulations! i probably won't get a scholarship there, but it's still a fantastic option for me! okay, the obligatory i'm-going-to-law-school(!) comment HAS to be made:
I'M GOING TO LAW SCHOOL!
1-17-09: got a fee waiver from baylor in the snail mail yesterday and decided to apply for their summer quarter. also finally sent out my application to case western. i wonder what other fun fee waivers i'll get to give me more options? also, my santa clara status checker says i'm "in committee". i hope they like me!
1-19-09: (finally) filled out my FAFSA, but it only allowed me to include 10 schools. guess i have to include the rest later?
1-21-09: i'm craving updates. yesterday i got a thin envelope in the mail from st. thomas, and i thought it was a rejection, but it was a letter telling me that they received my application. i also got my packet for miami and decided to go to admitted student's day in march. nothing else except an invitation to apply to golden gate university and another email from denver telling me that my app is complete, but this one said it's going to committee soon. hoping to hear from santa clara, mcgeorge, and denver in the next week or so. hoping...
1-23-09: not much is new. a postcard in the mail from syracuse saying they received my application. sent out an app to hofstra the other day. waiting...waiting...waiting.
1-28-09: so i'm supposed to be on a status checker fast, but i saw somebody on here who has similar numbers and got waitlisted at drexel recently after going complete a few days after i did, so i looked at my drexel status checker, and it said waitlisted. it's kind of funny to be waitlisted there. they are a new school without a rank, and they don't even have many concentrations. i was just interested in their co-op program, but i would choose miami over them every day of the week. so i'm not going to stay on this waitlist. i have thought a lot about it, and i'd probably only stay on a few waitlists out of the schools above. still super psyched about the idea of miami and really hoping to get a scholarship from syracuse.
2-1-09: in at marquette via small envelope with only 1 sheet of paper--the acceptance letter.
2-4-09: decisions from both stetson and pacific, according to their status checkers. just waiting for them in the mail... also wondering where case western and seton hall are? haven't heard anything from either school!
2-6-09: impressive folder from pacific with a handwritten note from the assistant dean and an offer to fly me out as a legal scholar. $5000/year plus first-year books. hooray! also, officially withdrew from drexel. and my hofstra status checker went blank, so i'm expecting a decision from them very soon. ***evening update--got an e-mail from hofstra about fellowships, and i can log on to their admitted student's site.
2-9-09: official acceptance to hofstra with a hand-written note, but no mention of a scholarship. letter from seton hall saying my application is under review, but they still haven't cashed my check, which i don't understand. also another letter and fee waiver from ave maria. got a cool folder full of info about marquette and a fee waiver from mercer on saturday, too. ***evening update: received an email from lewis and clark saying that they're putting me on "hold" and will review my file in april/may. i've seen people with my numbers get rejected, so i'm happy i'm still being considered. just sucks that i probably won't hear from them until after i have to put a deposit in at another school. i'm going to mark it as pending but deferred, but it is just a hold with potential to be waitlisted, rejected, or accepted in the future.
2-14-09: syracuse is my valentine. they sent me a nice package with a shirt, a sticker, and a personalized letter. they've been high on my list for months, and i'm super excited about the scholarship to make attending there more possible! i think i've received all of my acceptances for now though. i'm already preparing myself for the rest to be waitlists or rejections. maybe it'll come down to syracuse vs. miami...
2-18-09: noticed i was in at chapman the other day via status checker. just received the acceptance letter, and they're offering me a 20% renewable merit scholarship. now i can go hang out with seth, ryan, marissa, and summer?
2-20-09: big envelope from st. thomas holding what i believe to be the official last of my acceptances for this cycle. $5000/yr renewable scholarship...but no t-shirt. i thought accepted students got t-shirts?! i like the philosophy and programs of this school a lot, but i doubt that i would choose it over syracuse...even though it'd probably cost a little less...
2-21-09: applied for seton hall's full-time program, but got admitted to the part-time program. sucky.
2-26-09: waitlisted at catholic. withdrawing immediately. DC=vomit; i shouldn't have allowed myself to be guilted into applying to a local school when i already know i hate the area and want to leave. also--how is it possible that i have not been rejected anywhere yet?
3-5-09: finally complete at case western. haven't heard any more decisions from schools in a while. got a t-shirt from st. thomas today with a nice handwritten card. also made plans to visit pacific mcgeorge for a legal scholar day in a couple of weeks. also visiting the ASDs for miami and syracuse soon. exciting stuff going on.
3-18-09: found out via email yesterday that denver accepted me. woke up to a waitlist email from pitt and a rejection letter (my first!) at baylor. definitely staying on the pitt waitlist, and i never would have gone to baylor. i only applied because they sent me a fee waiver, and i was addicted to sending out applications at the time. but eww waco, texas.
3-24-09: went to mcgeorge's legal scholars day last week and fell in love with the school. 95% sure i'll be there in the fall; however, i reserve the right to consider future acceptances from schools that have taken their sweet time getting back to me! also canceled my trip to miami this week and withdrew my application. going to check out syracuse next week.
3-29-09: haven't been obsessively checking my status checkers since i fell for pacific. so it was a pleasant surprise to see that i had been admitted to seattle university the other day. received an official rejection email from wisconsin. saddening. and then i got an email from santa clara saying i'll know by the end of april whether i'm admitted or waitlisted. didn't say anything about rejection though...just waiting on a few more decisions!
4-5-09: another twist--i've decided to put down my seat deposit at syracuse. i'll withdraw from the other schools i have acceptances from and wait to see what the decisions are on my pending applications. syracuse has amazing dual degree options and it's just what i've been looking for in a law school since the beginning of the cycle. i was impressed by the ASD, and i look forward to moving there in august...unless another twist presents itself!
4-13-09: after agonizing over my decision for days, i finally sent my seat deposit to syracuse this morning. i'll withdraw from the other schools soon, but right now it hurts too much.
4-14-09: another, and hopefully my last, twist. i finally know what it's like to make an easy decision. i checked my mailbox today, and in it was a large envelope from university of oregon. tore it open, saw that i was admitted, and couldn't stop shaking with happiness and excitement for a few hours. i never thought i'd get in! soooo i called syracuse, withdrew my application, and asked them to shred my deposit check. i did this without hesitation. this is a great choice for me. plan on going here in the fall. now i have to sweat the small stuff...like planning a visit and figuring out how to move there in august.
4-17-09: withdrew from pacific mcgeorge. it was painful. i'm banking everything on loving oregon. i don't think i'll be disappointed. going there next week for the ASD!
scholarship info is per year. (i've been waiting a long time to type that sentence!)
1-7-09: decided to add catholic, mostly because it's close to my family and some friends, and i might decide that's what i want. also added buffalo.

LSAT advice Wednesday, June 25th, 2008 at 1:06 am
I'm an LSAT instructor. Do your homework and don't stress out too much and you'll be fine. The biggest mistakes people make are to not prepare or put too much pressure on themselves. Best of luck.
Sandy Cohen is my hero. Friday, August 29th, 2008 at 3:40 pm
It's funny you should say that since Berkeley is my first choice! I'm currently working on the East Coast and miss California so much. Hopefully, we'll both end up on the Best Coast. :-)
You can do it! Thursday, January 8th, 2009 at 7:20 pm
go GRINGA go! :)

Am pleased that we are in total agreement that UB Law is a high quality law school ! Our new dean has the place "ON THE MOVE".
Wish you the best !

Hey good luck this cycle! We have similar-ish number and are applying to a bunch of the same schools. Too bad I can't steal your Pitt waiver since I'm broke and have no clue how I'm going to afford all these apps and pay off my loan from undergrad. =( hehe
You're Going to Law School! Thursday, January 15th, 2009 at 2:15 pm
You're Going to Law School!
Way to go! I am sure there are a lot more happy emails on the way though.

My numbers are barely fudged at all. Like .05 of a GPA point or something to that effect. Lol, what I have is very representative. =) Yes, I did write the "Why Case" essay. I'm actually really liking Case the more I look into it. It's right down the street from CIM, too which is a GREAT music school. So, I can see lots of great operas if I go there =) I think my top 5 would be: Case, Santa Clara, Depaul, Chicago-Kent, and Loyola (or George Mason... but GM is kind of a reach for me). But honestly, I'm not applying to any schools I WON'T go to. Like all of my family lives in Maryland/Baltimore/DC, so I would kill to go to UM, Balt, or George Mason for that reason alone! I have family in Pennsylvania, too. hehe

Lol your comments are so sweet and make me feel much better. I'm so nervous that I'm somehow going to do something horribly wrong and get denied everywhere. I'm just holding my breath until my first acceptance. D:
Good luck to you too! Tuesday, January 20th, 2009 at 7:19 pm
Thanks for the comment. Miami was my first acceptance too, but it's a bit pricey. What's your first choice?
Miami Thursday, January 22nd, 2009 at 5:02 pm
I'm still waiting for my acceptance packet from Miami! I see you got yours yesterday so I'm hoping I find mine in my mailbox tonight.
Thanks! Friday, January 23rd, 2009 at 6:02 pm
wow, you heard back from Miami pretty fast! I'm sure you have many more to come...
Syracuse Sunday, January 25th, 2009 at 2:27 pm
Yeah the scholarship at Cuse is per year. I did write the two short essays so maybe they helped? You definitely applied to a ton of schools, which is your number one? So far I am pretty disappointed because I was waitlisted at UB (where I go to undergrad) and feel like I have been waiting to hear from other schools forever. Good luck with your cycle! Congrats on Miami, it looks like I might possibly end up going there.

hey snaps,
I'm not a resident though wish I was considering how cheap instate is. I took a lot of time writing my ps for all schools I applied to and was lucky to get great recs.

You probably have a good shot at getting some money at syracuse as well, I'm just not sure I can take the cold weather any longer, plus it's still a very expensive school. I am not going to the admitted students day at Miami but I am seriously considering it.

haha ty. Now the issue is my mom is going to kill me because I want to move away. I mentioned in passing that Loyola is probably my #1 right now, and she was like "oh.. oh, let's not talk about it." Because in her mind I'm staying on the east coast even though I made it clear IN THE BEGINNING that I want to be near LA or New York.
Twins Monday, February 2nd, 2009 at 5:44 pm
Yeah, it looks like we are number twins. Good luck to you, I'll be following your cycle. Do you have a #1 choice?
Tuesday, February 3rd, 2009 at 12:48 pm
I'm sure you'll get into the same places! I turned my apps in late November, so that's probably why I've heard. Best of luck to you!!!
Friday, February 6th, 2009 at 12:34 pm
I like that you applied to Case after I did, but you got a 'received' e-mail. I've heard NOTHING from them, lol. I'm starting to worry that the internet ate my application.
Friday, February 6th, 2009 at 2:24 pm
haha same here! Rutgers-N cashed my check, but not Seton Hall. Case is freaking me out, haha. It's like they're TRYING to make us nervous.
pacific mcgeorge Saturday, February 7th, 2009 at 6:30 pm
Congratulations! Are you going to visit the school? I'm thinking about going to the first Legal Scholar Day in March. I think it's the 13th.
Pacific Sunday, February 8th, 2009 at 8:25 pm
It wasn't really a top choice for me, but like you, I was also impressed with their packet, so I want to check things out. I have to see if I can get off work for a day though.
I think I am kind of leaning towards Miami just because my family is on the East Coast though.

Thanks. I'm really excited about Tennessee since I'm in-state and I'm hoping for scholarship money (aren't we all?) When making a decision it will probably boil down to location and money so I'll see how the cycle treats me. Congrats on Hofstra and I think you have a great shot at Seton Hall! Good Luck!
Tuesday, February 10th, 2009 at 8:44 am
I've heard Seton hall sends that "under review" letter and then follows it like a week later with a decision.
So, for McGeorge, you just got a message saying 'Decision Rendered' on your status checker then got a letter in the mail? Mine switched to decision rendered yesterday, and I'm nervous. lol
I'm dying to hear from Rutgers-Newark though.

Apparently Seton Hall just received my application? They sent me an e-mail telling me it was received but not complete. Did you not get that e-mail?
WHAT IS GOING ON. Lol I hate this stress!

Case Tuesday, February 10th, 2009 at 5:36 pm
Hey! I actually heard via email the Monday after I made a campus visit. ED is binding but they were my top choice so I'm excited! Congrats on your acceptances!
Thanks! Friday, February 13th, 2009 at 6:27 pm
I'm really excited about the Case acceptance, and they're at the top of my list now. I'm thinking of visiting there next month. Good luck w/ your pending apps!
Saturday, February 14th, 2009 at 1:26 pm
Case sent me an e-mail to tell me I was complete.
lol yeah I still might go. I've never been to the west coast, so I'd love a trip to Sac. I'd prob go toward the end though.. the later march date =)

haha yeah. I really like DePaul.. it's just so expensive. I'm kinda praying to God they offer me some sort of money, but I don't know if I'll get any. =( We'll see! I'm still waiting on the actual letter to come in!
thank you! Wednesday, February 25th, 2009 at 11:27 am
Looks like you're courting some of the schools in my old area (SU, UB).. best of luck!
Not too sure about CO. Thinking we might make a move back to NY -- Heather (gf) is considering a PhD in her field but isn't sure, and I'm thinking I'd rather be at Cornell, so I was thinking about taking another year off and starting in 2010.
What's your top choice?

Catholic Wednesday, February 25th, 2009 at 1:28 pm
I literally just checked my e-mail and received a "We are delighted to offer you admission" from Catholic. Pretty excited about that though I've still got several schools to hear back from. What's your top choice? Good luck!
Friday, February 27th, 2009 at 3:58 pm
haha not really though. I keep getting into schools, but I'm not getting offered any money. =( I was surprised by the DePaul acceptance since they've been pretty hardcore this year, but it's all so expensive. =(
Friday, February 27th, 2009 at 5:11 pm
Thanks, snaps, and congats to you on your cycle thus far as it seems we're pretty similar. I can't believe I got into Seton Hall, as I am below their current class' 25%ile for the LSAT.
My top choice? I would say W&M, as I'm hoping for a late-game acceptance/WL which would obviously require lots of luck. I'm hoping that my unique application "theme" and targeted LOR from a W&M law prof will help! Otherwise, Temple/Villanova/Rutgers/Seton Hall/Pitt probably in that order depending on scholarship info.
Here's to many more acceptances for us both. Cheers!

My top choices are Loyola, Santa Clara and USD. Though the more I look into UNLV the more I like it since, even with out of state tuition, it would by far be the cheapest. Also no state income tax would certainly make working in Nevada for a few years to build experience for a return to California worth it. It all comes down to how the rest of my cycle finishes and how much $$$ I can get. Tour wise I am looking to hit up Santa Clara and USF. I've already hit all the other California Schools. Might try to check out Catholic if they make it worth my while with money.
What about you? Thinking about hitting up some west coast schools for a visit?

Did McGeorge offer to pay your way to visit the school? If so I'd definitely check it out. If they didn't offer to pay for the trip and you're debating visiting let me know. I was born, raised and currently live in Sacramento so I can answer any questions you might have. I understand the being spoiled with a big city. I went to school in LA and I am trying to get back down there. The only place I've been to that compares to LA is Rome.
I realized a while back I can't ever leave California. As crazy as this state is I love it and wouldn't want to live anywhere else. You're originally from the east coast obviously?

Thanks for the nice comment. I am still waiting on a few more schools, I applied to a ton. Right now if I had to make a decision my top 3 would be Tennessee, Kentucky, and DePaul but sometimes that changes. I still need to think about it some more and money/debt will probably have a lot to do with my decision. Good Luck!
Oregon Friday, March 13th, 2009 at 8:36 pm
Thanks! Yes, I grew up in Eugene, OR. I love it there, and I will probably be going to UO. Good luck with your application. If you have any questions, feel free to ask me.

Hey. I got that same Santa Clara e-mail. Are you pretty set on Pacific. Would an acceptance from any of your remaining schools change your mind? I think I'm pretty set on Case at this point.
Congrats!! Wednesday, April 1st, 2009 at 10:53 pm
I'm leaning towards McGeorge as well!! Good luck with the decision process:)
Case Friday, April 3rd, 2009 at 10:52 am
I haven't actually got to visit yet. I'm hoping to visit some time soon after tax season!
Did you submit your deposit for Pacific? Wasn't the deadline April 1st?

Syracuse Sunday, April 5th, 2009 at 10:09 pm
Oh man! I wish I had an answer, but it changes every day! Buffalo to Syracuse to Arizona back to Buffalo back to Syracuse. It will likely be one of those three.
You sound pretty sure of SU! Congratulations! Good luck with everything!

Hello again Wednesday, April 8th, 2009 at 12:26 am
Nice going with the Syracuse scholarship! I see you withdrew from Miami. I am most likely going to withdraw as well and will attend Rutgers if I don't get any surprises from my 4 remaining schools. Best of luck to you.
Oregon Tuesday, April 14th, 2009 at 2:13 pm
Congrats on Oregon! That is a great choice right there.
Pending apps Tuesday, April 14th, 2009 at 8:12 pm
I'm pretty much sold on Tennessee right now and I can't beat the in-state tuition. It's a bargain for me. I did want to get out of the state but I can't justify moving my wife and family across the country for my selfish desires unless it was really worth it. There are a few pending apps that could sway me and some waitlists so we'll see but I'm thinking I'll be in Knoxville in the fall.
I was really excited about being waitlisted at Boston College though.
Oregon was a hard school for me to withdraw from. That area of the country is just beautiful. Good Luck!

Congratulations on Oregon! Based on what you wrote, it seems like you have had a hectic few days going back and forth between Syracuse and Oregon! I just put a seat deposit down at Buffalo and I'll be waiting for Arizona. Congrats again!
Oregon Thursday, April 16th, 2009 at 4:39 pm
Congrats! Yes, I'm set on Oregon now. I'll see you there! =p
Monday, April 20th, 2009 at 12:35 pm
Congrats on Oregon! I hear it's nice there. My Case visit was great. The admissions office, the students in the class I observed, and my tour guide were so welcoming. Before I went, I was really scared of Cleveland, but now I can really see myself at Case. Best of luck to you at Oregon!
